The Daily Grind ~ 12/3/12

So, you got my kids' guidance counselors brother/sister?? Ours is a dope too.. I have to fight him tooth and nail... I can't wait to go fight my case for next year as they don't offer my son enough to keep him there all day.. he is only 4 credit hours away from graduating RIGHT NOW!!! I really wish I could just graduate him in May...but he wants to play his SENIOR year of soccer.... so that is what we are doing... but on the schedule WE want since he has meet and exceeds all the state mandates to graduate with HONORS (including to date 16 credit hours of college... will have more of them next year)..

March 1st is not an unusual date.. some scholarships especially thru the universities are based on your FAFSA form information....

I think they also do the quick turn around because kids are procrastinators and some don't submit in time and result in fewer applications to go through..

In the spring of Tyler's junior year we got a letter from the school telling us Ty hadn't completed his senior project. OK.....well we didn't have college visits scheduled until the fall of his senior year so it made sense he hadn't completed it. I called and spoke with her and told her we would be doing the fall visits. In the very early fall I again received a letter telling us he hadn't completed his project. Again, hadn't done the visits yet.

After we had done two of the college visits I called to get a fax number so I could send copies of the forms stating he had done his visits. No way they were getting the originals, as they tend to lose things. Anway, she answers the phone and tells me the forms aren't necessary.....Tyler's paperwork is complete and had been so since his sophomore year! UGH! I told her I had spoken with her the previous spring andI was confused because we had gotten two letters telling us he was incomplete and she got a VERY snotty attitude telling me "well my computer says......". At that point I had enough and asked her if she was having a bad day. I'm sure somewhere in her little computer is a note in Tyler's file saying "Mom is a B*&%H".

Financial aide night was last week and there was this woman there who was scowling and acting like it was the last place she wanted to be. I said hi to her when we walked in, but she completely blew me off. Later in the evening when she was still sitting there looking like she hated to be there, I asked Tyler who she was. He said "mom, that's the guidance counselor". No wonder she didn't want to talk with me. :rotfl2: Just our luck....two good counselors and one bad one....... and we get the bad one.

That's very helpful to know. Makes complete sense. Thanks!

Oh I know your pain!!!

Ours is notorious for not telling some seniors til 6 weeks before graduation they are short hours.... I mean, yes the kids should be held accountable...but you are supposed to be "guiding" them.. it's in your title!!! I found out before my kids even entered the HS level when a close friend's DD was short an English credit hour... so I watch mine like a hawk..
I wanted to change something w/ PJ's schedule her freshman year and he wouldn't return my emails/calls... so I showed up at school and told the secretary that I do NOT have a scheduled meeting but I am a SAHM and can sit in the office all day and all night til he meets with me since he won't return my calls and emails.... Needless to say, within in 5 minutes we were meeting.... I got the request and informed him that I knew of his track record and that I would be watching him like a hawk and wouldn't hesitate to be back in...
I'm sure I got a note in all the kids' files stating that same thing as yours.. Oh well, I'm not letting my kids get messed over.... not happening...

:rotfl2: Our file says the same thing ;) and then DH went up and caused a giant ruckus!!!! Needless to say no one in the guidance office wants to see my angry 6'3" man again :rotfl2: So they are happy to deal with me now. The financial aid stuff is quite confusing...Rachel is trying to figure out where to look for grants. We have financial aid night on Wednesday, hopefully it will be helpful.

Good Luck!!!

Seems like we all have the same notation in our files!!! :)

Let me know if you find a grant site.. I will send anything I find out too!!

Ok So I quite the fundraising organizer position. The treasurer is mad at me, since it now falls on her. Too bad she keeps letting people do as they please and not turn in money on time. I have to have deadlines and they have to be kept sorry people.

Nan, I got your mail today! Your family is a bunch of cuties :)

Lisa, i got yours Friday. :thumbsup2

I have an email into the paper company waiting to hear back. :headache:

Got my FastPass+ in the mail. Not sure about setting up times before leaving home...

Lisa- I got yours today! Cute! I am working on those this week : ) I actually have the cards, just need to address them! That is huge for me!

Exhausting day at work. Tonight I need to work on cards, finalize Amazon order, work on laundry a little more, and cook dinner. I believe we will be having chili!!! I can't believe our calendar is empty for the evening!!! :goodvibes

Rachal-LMK what you think about fast pass + when you return. Debating for our upcoming trip??

Nan- I will hope for a boy for them, because I can't imagine being born a girl in that situation knowing most family members wanted you to be a boy

good luck with the financial stuff danielle and cheryl! will be so happy to have you all to ask questions when it's Megan's turn for college!

Rachal, happy to hear you quit the fundraising gig...hope it will give a needed break from all the you know what!

Michelle, I will. We have 2 reservations, 2 rooms, but I can't match up the times for all of us for the attractions. Kinda pointless if we can't all go to a show at the same time. I was going to email and ask though.

Ya. I feel.so much better. It's really not that hard to just turn in money when you're supposed too....right? I guess so. Oh well not my deal either.

She's mad at you??? Well, hello.. this is that many more times she has to go to the bank and make deposits too... She should have been the one also sending out the emails saying "ok, the due date has come and gone.. if we do NOT receive your monies by XX date, your child will be excluded from receiving any of the fundraising credits and YOU will be funding your child's dance activities out of pocket"... end of discussion!!!

Rachal, there is another envelope headed your way, it went out the same day but seems like they got separated in transit.. knowing my post office.. it got put into a mailbag that didn't depart til the following day (they are notorious for that over the holidays).... let me know when it arrives...

I am sorry you are having to deal with that Rachal- no fun!!!

Thanks. We are staying in a suite at A of A. I would have preferred two rooms for us 6, but the girls constantly talk about the "big blue pool" that they see on the Disney Channel. So I wanted to stay as close as possible (since it is a surprise) so we are staying at the Nemo rooms. Plus I wanted Gma to have coffee first thing in the morning to make it easier on everyone ;)

Ohh got it. ;) I'm mad at my po now. They Changed rules on envies again. Eeerrrrggg! Different pos different rules.

She's the one saying its ok for them to turn in late! After she said she doesn't want to take money from anyone but me and then tells people they can turn in to her. Um hello? I need to make sure its all in, adds up, a proper credit is given where due. But ok. You can do it, make it difficult on yourself. I'll just cut out the middle man. ;) easy peasy.

Just got email paper will be here tomorrow. It will go to po tomorrow afternoon if delievered in time. Ups is later in the day these days. Most is presorted and labels are ready. :)

Michelle, we have a girl room and boy room. :) We're taking dbfs brother and he won't fit on a pull out. And he didn't want his own room away from us. We have a fridge for milk for ds. And did dining so we don't need much in the room this time. We'll see how it goes.

Did you find universal to be massively expensive for the day? Was it worth it? I'm still holding out! I wanna go see hp! Who cares bout legos. Blah! I tried to split up but that didn't work. :(

Understand, really two rooms is cheaper and more room too sometimes?? I think DH and I will give Gma the real bed, which is one reason two rooms sounded better. Where are you staying? That will be so fun!!

Universal was fairly expensive. We did two days, one park each day base ticket. We got our 4 tickets through UT with the mousesavers discount for about $450-$500 I believe. My DS was too short to ride most of the rides we wanted to ride, so him and Gma had a resort day both of those days. Plus both of them needed a break :lmao: My DD2 and I are both huge Harry Potter fans though!!! It was on the top of my list to visit. Now that they are expanding the WWOHP, I guess I will have to save to go again. We loved IOA. US was ok too, but we didn't spend as much time there. If we go again we might just buy a one day base ticket to IOA only?? I guess it will depend on pricing. If you are a HP fan, it is pretty amazing. I can only imagine what the expansion will add. Though it is fairly pricey.

Yes, definitely easier to cut out the middle man when she is talking out both sides of her mouth!!! Now she can enjoy her time figure it all out!!! Good luck sunshine.. enjoy!!! :)

You are going to be real busy as your work starts going strong... ;)

OK I feel like i am missing out since some days I can't check in :lmao: What is going with this paper, Rachal, and a business. Curious minds want to know ;)

It actually was. 4 real beds were are needed. We are staying at Movies. I cant remember exactly how much but it was big figures. I think there will be a little bit more room. We asked for a pack and play for ds.

Ohh I cant imagine all of you sleeping on the pullouts! DD's had a hard time sharing last time at ASMu and they were all smaller then!

I think the 1 day 1 parks are like $560, plus the mears shuttle to get us there and back $100 for everyone. The shuttle is cheaper than a rental car, gas, and parking and bonus no one drives, or has to pick up the car and take it back.

We can do another Disney park day for like $60 for everyone and legoland gets to stay since I have bogo adult ticket get a kid ticket. I did US years ago and was not impressed we did the whole park in 1/2 day. I love the one in LA though!

So I think I will just suck it up and forget about WWOHP this year and take the Vegas trip ;)

Exactly! Thats how I feel about it.

Ok off to pack the car with stuff to drop off with her tonight. We arent staying for dance. as it is we have something every night. including 2 5 hour nutcracker practices :scared1: honestly if I hadnt bought my tix yesterday we would be ditching Nutcracker too. I'm so annoyed with the studio!
