Obama's Exclusive Interview With 'GMA'
RSS Sen. Barack Obama insisted today that his campaign commercial pointing out that Republican Sen. John McCain doesn't know how to use a computer wasn't a sly shot at his rival's age.

"I didn't say that. What I said was ... that John McCain is out of touch," Obama told "Good Morning America."

Obama was asked about the ad by "GMA" co-anchor Chris Cuomo as both major party candidates stepped up the number of attack ads.

Last week McCain was forced to defend a couple of his ads on ABC's "The View" when co-host Joy Behar said they were "lies."

Even Republican attack-master Karl Rove said the two campaigns were in danger of going overboard.

"Both campaigns are making a mistake, and that is they are taking whatever their attacks are and going one step too far," Rove said on "Fox News Sunday." "They don't need to attack each other in this way."

It was Obama's turn to defend his campaign tactics when pressed by Cuomo today.

"It paints him as an old man. You say he can't use a computer, he's never sent an e-mail. What does that all mean?" Cuomo asked.

"What it means is that we've got a 21st century economy. And John McCain does not have a vision for how to move that forward," Obama replied.

"When his health care adviser was recently quoted saying that 'We don't really have an uninsured problem because people can just go to the emergency room,' well, that has nothing to do with age," Obama said. "That indicates somebody who is not spending time thinking about what people are going through day to day."

Obama rejected suggestions that his campaign ad was a low blow.

"If we're going to ask questions about, you know, who has been promulgating negative ads that are completely unrelated to the issues at hand, I think I win that contest pretty handily," Obama said.

Mr Man and txtink- I am glad to know that you and your families are ok. I hope they are able to get the power back on for you asap.

I can't believe they are saying that it is his (Obama's) perogative to do that  . That is some strong kool-aid. So, because he is running for president, he is allowed to do whatever he wants?

Sorry, I think the exact verbage was legislative "duty".

I frequently troll this thread but only post occasionally.

I received an email from a friend (and fellow McCain/Palin supporter) with a video link to something I hadn't heard about and was wondering if it's been discussed here. I must admit, it blew me away!

Any thoughts?

Ok, I had to come back here to calm down. The OS are actually claiming that it's BHO's legislative perogative to negotiate with Iraq and undermind the current administration. :sad2:

I think I might have to log off for awhile.

BTW, agentP, is that the spin you were talking about?

It's amazing, isn't it? Every day it's something else with Obama. I read earlier today he had a new ad out called "Honor" that slammed John McCain for campaigning negatively after vowing to stay positive. Complaining about negative ads in his own negative ad. Only BHO can get away with that!

First Matt, then Pamela, now Lindsey --

Lindsay Lohan isn't happy with Republican vice presidential candidate John McCain's choice of running mate, Sarah Palin.

"I really cannot bite my tongue anymore when it comes to Sarah Palin," the actress, 22, wrote on her MySpace blog Sunday.

"I couldn't be more supportive of a woman in office, but let's face it, it comes down to the person, and their beliefs, male or female," Lohan said.

"I would have liked to have remained impartial, however I am afraid that the 'lipstick on a pig' comments will overshadow the issues and the fact that I believe Barack Obama is the best choice, in this election, for president," she added.

Although Lohan said she feels "it's necessary for me to clarify that I am not against Sarah Palin as a mother or woman", the star believes that Palin -- the Incumbent Governor of Alaska -- isn't ready to run the country.

She said, "I find it quite interesting that a woman who now is running to be second in command of the United States, only 4 years ago had aspirations to be a television anchor, which is probably all she is qualified to be.

"Oh, and... Hint Hint Pali Pal - Don't pose for anymore tabloid covers, you're not a celebrity, you're running for office to represent our, your, my COUNTRY!"

Lohan -- who is rumored to be in a relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson -- also referenced Palin's views on homosexuality.

"Is it a sin to be gay?" Lohan asked. "Should it be a sin to be straight? Or to use birth control? Or to have sex before marriage? Or even to have a child out of wedlock?

"Is our country so divided that the Republicans best hope is a narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe?"

In conclusion, Lohan cited an Associated Press story reporting that Palin's church advocates a conference about prayer curing homosexuality. Wrote Lohan: "Palin's Desire to "save and convert the gays" - really??"

Ronson also chimed in.

"Vote for obama!" Ronson wrote. "Mainly because if she gets elected my green card probably won't get renewed!!!"

All, I've got to say is, if I were working for the Obama campaign, I'd be trying to shut these people up! Who's next - Britney?

Obama Plans Trip Pre-Election Day Visit to Iraq and Afghanistan
By Jeff Zeleny
Senator Barack Obama with Senator Carl Levin of Michigan at a rally at Kettering University in Flint, Mich., Monday. (Photo: Jeff Kowalsky/European Pressphoto Agency) FLINT, Mich. – Senator Barack Obama said today he intends to visit Iraq and Afghanistan before the November election.

Mr. Obama, who spoke to the Iraqi foreign minister by telephone this morning, said he was “encouraged” by the reductions in violence in Iraq. But he said the United States still must begin gradually withdrawing troops, at a pace of one to two brigades a month, with a goal of removing most combat troops in 16 months.

“We have no interest in permanent bases in Iraq,” Mr. Obama said. “I gave him an assurance that should we be elected, an Obama administration will make sure that we continue with the progress that’s been made in Iraq – that we won’t act precipitously, but that we will move to end U.S. combat forces in Iraq.”

As Mr. Obama arrived in Michigan for a campaign stop on the economy, he shared details of his morning telephone call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. On Sunday, Mr. Zebari had a face-to-face meeting with Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee.

Among the issues being discussed with the two presidential candidates is the long-term security accord between Iraq and the United States. While the Bush administration would like to see an agreement reached before the summer’s political conventions, Mr. Obama said today that he opposed such a timetable.

“My concern is that the Bush administration, in a weakened state politically, ends up trying to rush an agreement that in some ways might be binding to the next administration, whether it’s my administration or Senator McCain’s administration,” Mr. Obama said. “The foreign minister agreed that the next administration should not be bound by an agreement that’s currently made.”

Mr. Obama, who has not been to Iraq for more than two years, told the New York Times last month that he intended to visit Iraq. His comments today after talking to Mr. Zebari underscored that desire, saying: “I told him that I look forward to seeing him in Baghdad.”

Late last month, Mr. McCain invited Mr. Obama to embark on a joint trip to Iraq, a gesture that Mr. Obama dismissed as a political stunt. The Republican National Committee started a clock, keeping track of the days it has been since Mr. Obama’s visit in January 2006.

“In the nearly 900 days since Barack Obama visited Iraq, the facts on the ground have changed dramatically – but his ideologically-driven position has not,” said Alex Conant, a Republican spokesman. “When Obama visits Iraq, he’ll see that he was wrong to oppose the surge, wrong to continue to ignore our commanders’ advice and wrong to demand premature withdrawal.”

Today, Mr. Obama did not say specifically when he intended to take his foreign trip.

“You know, we’ll make an announcement about that,” he said. “But as I said, I’m interested in visiting Iraq and Afghanistan before the election.”

If it's not it should be. Can you imagine any congressman having the ability to go to a world leader and undermind the executive branch while we're at war? Serious stuff IMO!

McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime [Andy McCarthy]

The McCain Campaign has issued a statement responding to the report from Amer Taheri (see today's web briefing) that Sen. Obama secretly negotiated with the Iraqi government regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. McCain spokesman Randy Scheunemann stated as follows:

At this point, it is not yet clear what official American negotiations Senator Obama tried to undermine with Iraqi leaders, but the possibility of such actions is unprecedented. It should be concerning to all that he reportedly urged that the democratically-elected Iraqi government listen to him rather than the US administration in power. If news reports are accurate, this is an egregious act of political interference by a presidential candidate seeking political advantage overseas. Senator Obama needs to reveal what he said to Iraq's Foreign Minister during their closed door meeting. The charge that he sought to delay the withdrawal of Americans from Iraq raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgment and it demands an explanation.

Excellent response from the McCain Campaign - now they need to do some following up with this! Because if this is so....which from the looks of BO's on words - it could be - than this is HUGE.
