THE Conservative Thread: Country First!

My conservative buddies. I have been quiet, busy packing for the world for the next week and then a week on the Magic!

I know when I return there will have been a new thread started and then probably another new one after that!

Actually, with all that is going on with the financial mess, I am very grateful to get a 2 week break from it. Very upsetting.

Breezy, I will miss your meals. But I look forward to returning and catching up on all the latest. Bye!

Fantastic. Have a great trip, and try to leave her nice for me. I'm sailing on the 11th:woohoo: Not visiting the parks this though. Need a nice relaxing vacation.

Shoot, I'll bet we'll go through a couple of threads in 2 weeks. :lmao:

Have a great trip Muushka! :wave2: I'll PM you the links to the new thread(s) :rotfl2:

You've got a point there. :lmao:

Buck and JB...I've been staying away from that Biden thread but the last page or so of comments here made me curious so I decided to go check it out. I've only made it through about three pages so far but...all I have to say is that somebody has apparently found a stash of old mimeograph fluid and has been sniffing liberally. :scared: Or needs to quit snorting that kitty litter. Or something. I'm guessing it only goes downhill from there, and I'm not entirely sure how that is even possible.

I'm sorry - I tried to laugh about that thread but, after I read someone's comment that those fighting in Iraq weren't fighting for her, I got

You and Bucknaked [or is it Bucknaked and you? :) ] did a fine job, I must say.

I almost replied to that but I'd get kicked off the DIS for my words. Blood was shooting out of my eyes.

Anyone care to laugh with me at them on the Joe Biden patriotic thread? :rotfl2:

It's ironic considering how a poster over there feels about 9/11 and our troops. I wanted to post a shovel because she just keeps digging deeper.

An article that I found:
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200809u/mccain-economics

Here are two of the things that the author really likes about McCain:

McCain is not Bush. This came as a surprise to me. I'd been assuming, in my ill-read, uneducated way, that McCain had been complicit in most of the great travesties of the Bush administration and the execrable Republican Senate. I've learned that's largely untrue. He voted (to my great surprise!) against the prescription drug entitlement, against the Farm Security Bill, against milk subsidies, against Amtrak subsidies, and against highway subsidies.

Obama, by contrast, is in many ways a continuation of Bush. Like Bush (only far more so), Obama is fine with tariffs and subsidies. Like Bush, he wants to send jackbooted thugs into every meatpacking plant in America to rid the American workplace of anyone who happens to have been born on the wrong side of an imaginary line. Like Bush, he wants a more progressive tax code. (It is one of the great myths of 21st century that the Bush tax cuts made the tax code less progressive; the opposite is true. If you are in the bottom 38% of taxpayers, you now pay zero income tax—and therefore have an incentive to support any spending bill that comes down the pike.) Like Bush, he wants more regulation, not less.

McCain gets health care right. The reason poor Americans get too little health care is that rich Americans get too much. The reason rich Americans get too much is that they're overinsured, and therefore run to the doctor for minor problems. The reason they're overinsured is that employer-provided health benefits aren't taxed, so employers overprovide them.

It has been clear for decades that the single most effective way to control health care costs is to eliminate the tax break for employer-provided health care. According to one careful study by my colleague Charles Phelps (admittedly several years old, but I'm not sure anything relevant has changed), this single reform could reduce health care costs by 40% with essentially no effect on health care outcomes.

Essential as this reform may be, I'd always assumed it was a political non-starter. I was therefore astonished to learn that it's the essence of McCain's health care reform. (At the same time, he would give each individual $2500, and each family $5000, to use for health care.)

I am astonished that I hadn't heard about this, and particularly astonished that Barack Obama hasn't thrust it in my face with a negative spin. Possibly he has and I just wasn't paying attention. In any case, this is just what the doctor ordered, and I am delighted that McCain has put it on the table.

Obama, by contrast, wants poor people to get more medical care without addressing the problem of overuse by rich people. Where is that extra medical care going to come from? If the answer is "nowhere," then a primary effect of the Obama plan must be to raise prices, making doctors and hospitals the big beneficiaries

Have a great trip, Muushka!

I really wish twilightwhatever would SHUT UP! She's trying to make this a teacher war and it isn't. If I could have that shovel I'll gladly throw in the first scoop on her head!

I'm telling ya'll.... she/he is not a teacher. We are being played. They are just having a good time pushing our buttons.

Have a great time! Do you have room in your suitcase for me?

I think that 'imaginary line' :headache: needs a big brick wall with electrified razor wire. :rolleyes1
I have no problem with immigrants. What I have a problem with is illegal immigration, those who sneak across the border, don't pay taxes or into social security, send the money to their country so they're not helping our economy, refuse to learn English, get free healthcare and welfare they're not entitled to...I could go on but I won't.
Illegal immigration is a hot button issue for me. I don't care what country you come from, don't illegally cross that "imaginary line" because you think you're entitled to live here. If we crossed illegally into Mexico we'd be in trouble.

Very well said!:thumbsup2

I think that anyone who lives in a state that is affected by illegal immigration feels the same way you do.

Why is it that if you want the government go after illegal immigrants the Left wants to brand you as jackbooted, unAmerican, callous, unfeeling, etc?

and the city of Dallas, wants taxpayers to approve a 751 million dollar bond issue to build a new Parkland Hospital.

For those of you NOT in the DFW Area, parkland is a very old hospital-the one that John F. Kennedy was taken to when he was assassinated...it also has the highest rate of babies delivered in the country....which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't also coincide with the other statistic which is that nearly 70% of the babies born there are to illegal immigrants who do not pay for their care. If you are in Texas and need medical care, it is pretty widely known that you go to Parkland, because you will get treated and never have to pay. I'm sure they could use the updated facilities, but not so they can continue to cater to illegal immigrants who use it as a regular doctor's office. Until that issue gets fixed, I don't think the voters should approve this....especially when they're firing 650 teachers tomorrow in the DISD because the idiot that did their budget for the year made a 64 MILLION dollar error in calculating and they cannot cover their budget...and the city spent 50 million last year building a homeless shelter, and also now wants another 500 million to build a new hotel in Dallas, thinking it will attract oustiders to the city. They just don't get it.

Nobody wants to come to Dallas because everything to do here is OUTSIDE of Dallas. Football and Baseball teams are in Arlington once the Cowboys new stadium is done, except for basketball and hockey at the AAC. Amusement parks are all in Arlington. Downtown Fort Worth is actually fun (and safe-not something to be said about Dallas)

I am really really surprised that this issue has not even been touched upon by either side during the campaigns. It is one of the bigger reasons why I have trouble supporting McCain. I don't need NEW laws enacted, I'd just like to have the existing ones enforced, and that includes building the fence we already voted for and approved. This is one of the reasons I was a supporter of Duncan Hunter in the primaries.

The answer is.. border cats!

(Please remember not to tell Palin about the border cats. Remember, she hates animals!) LOL

hahaha!

Unfortunately our Border Patrol is being victimized by the system, too. Ramos and Compean are still sitting in federal prison and that, for the life of me, I cannot rationalize on any level at all.

Sorry to get off topic -

 I'm in Dallas and didn't know about this. I especially didn't know about the teachers - guess I'm not paying attention to local news. My boss's b-friend is a DISD principal and my boss hasn't mentioned this to me. But yeah, there are a lot of things that need to be fixed first. And what new hotel and where? The city wants to pay for a new hotel? Why? And besides, Victory has built up and that's the current 'hotspot' for celebrities to stay should they come to Dallas. We have plenty of great hotels in Dallas. Where are they proposing to build a new hotel and ... the city wants to fund this? :confused3

Dare I even go look? I best not - thats one of my biggest hot buttons.

Apparently I set her off and she retaliated by making personal attacks against my husband for his military service and only defending oil mongers :rotfl:

I had to take offense to that one so I kinda went off on her...but she's not doing herself any favors by not shutting up. Instead she started a whole new thread trying to convince people that conservatives hate teachers. First race didn't work, then bashing the military failed, so now it must be because we hate teachers, and I'm not "worthy" of criticizing her because I am not a certified teacher.

Good stuff :thumbsup2

Too late. Couldn't help it. I'm sure I racked up quite a few points for my post. I don't care - I work with our troops - troops that have sacrificed so much for all of us - how dare she disrepected them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you all know this, but I'm saying it anyway. Please know that most teachers do NOT feel the way she does! Many of us are also Conservative, despite what shows up in our mail boxes due to being in a union.

I've come across many of her posts on all types of subjects. Let me just say that they were "interesting" and told volumes.

The thread just went *poof* and I was only 1/2 way through it. Oh well. I really need to be in bed now and not reading anymore of this crazyness on here tonight.
