The Conservative Thread: Back to Basics. Pass the Lasagna and Have a Flower!!

i am not even going to attempt to catch up....

Let's see what I can add of worth today:

Talked to my DH's aunt. She works at the Cabela's here in DFW. They have had an increase of over 400% in gun sales since Nov. 4th. We've got the guns, but we are stockpiling the ammo for them, as we are more concerned about THAT going away than being able to purchase the gun. Owning the gun doesn't violate our 2nd ammendment rights, but if they outlaw the ammo for them, it doesn't either, and renders the guns useless.

I started working on a diaper bag design today for Jacob. I got it sketched, and some of the parts measured out, and part of it cut out to sew. DD was wanting to sew too, so we were pulling double duty while she worked on her first quilt. She picked out all the fabric, and has done all the sewing so far all by herself. All I have done is the cutting (I don't trust a 10 yr old with a rotary cutter!) and showed her where to sew. She made 3 1/2 of her 9 blocks today, and is so excited to see it coming together. I think it will turn out really cute. She likes bold, bright colors too, so I'm gonna like her quilt when she finishes it.

We headed out into the country to DH's aunt's land. We took 7 kids with us (my 4 and best friend + her 3) to feed and pet the horses, then made a campfire and let the kids roast hot dogs and smores by campfire, and let the kids shoot guns for awhile. My 5 yr old was finally able to reach his fingers around the trigger this year so he was excited to get to fire my pistol. DH has been teaching the kids about guns and gun safety for the last year or so, and has been showing them how to properly handle a gun and the dangers with them. They don't view a gun as a toy now because they know it can be dangerous and they've seen how. DH had them shoot a few things like a melon to show them the effect of a bullet and what it does.
(just for those who are anti-gun--my kids have no idea where our guns are stored, nor the ammo, and they are not left loaded)

After we got home we watched Jeff Dunham's christmas special on Comedy Central. If you get the chance, catch it on 11/18 when it reairs because it is hilarious.
Now it is almost 4am and I'm up with Jacob.....

I am missing the plunger on Obama's face pic. I wish I had snagged it and saved it before it poofed. I liked that one. I have a rather large collection of humorous political pictures compliments of our various threads over the last few months.

I saw Glenn is doing the theatre broadcast again for his Christmas show and I'm so excited now! He's coming to Dallas on Dec. 11th for the book tour so I'm going to go to that and hopefully get to say a few words to him as well. His appearance last year got cancelled due to weather when "An Inconvenient Book" came out so I was bummed. I am so ready for his new show to start. I miss him every evening. :sad1:

I'm heading back to bed now. I have a full day ahead of me tomorrow of house cleaning and trying to figure out a way to make money working from home, as we have come to the conclusion that I'm not going to be able to continue working for long. Jacob can't be put into a daycare environment, nor will he be able to do that until spring at the earliest because he's at a very high risk for RSV and pretty much anything else. I'm crafty and capable of doing bookkeeping and accounting work, as well as administrative duties, so hopefully someone will give me the chance to work for them from home doing a small business's accounting or something. I'm up for any suggestions anyone has....

Ideas for you as a WAHM:

make quilts! I have a friend who did this. She sewed and then paid some women at a senior citizens day program to do the quilting. I have 4 of them!

alterations-You could make a fortune. $15-$20 for a simple hem! A lady in our smallish town-20000- has opened a business doing this and she is busy all the time.

clothing construction- My DSIL is +sized and has a seamstress who makes all of her special occasion clothes. She charges $500-$900 and that doesn't include the fabric!!!! That is strictly her fee for constructing the garments.

Good morning!!

Okay I know I've been MIA a lot here lately (been busy) BUT has BO done something, anything since the election?? The reason I ask is because after looking through some various threads on the CB last night I learned the BO has done more and worked harder that any other president elect in history!:rotfl: So did I miss something??

These are the things that I can think of off of the top of my head:

- he resigned from the senate so he wouldn't have to deal with or have his name attached to anything that goes on in the lame duck session this week.

- he bowed out of the economic summit this weekend (to busy I suppose)

- He suspended the all important and critical to the US whitehouse dog search until after they move in.

Is there something else?

I guess I need to do a better job of keeping up.

Tina

Welcome Parksfamily5. :wave2:

Yeah, he's busy having secret meeting in airplane hangers and hiding letters he got from Ahmadinajab. There's a lot of effort that goes into being sneeky and pulling the wool over the Libs eyes.

Does the media (and the world) usually focus so intently on the transition from one Prez to the next?

I never noticed it before BO.

Has anyone noticed that about a month before BO was elected, the MODs of the DIS suddenly decided we couldn't have negative things in our sigs about the opposing party? Why didn't they do that over the last few years when there were so many Bush Bashing sigs? :scratchin Nothing negative can be said about the Obamasiah.

Just have to post - I'm at Disney!!! We're having a great time. It's cool (67 for a high) clear and the crowds are light. This is awesome!

Have fun Juligrl!

I wish it was our family at Disney this week!

We had a bit of a bad night last night. Someone hit DS new (new to him last week) car and just left. It pushed the door in and left a bad scratch. Poor kid is so upset. He doesn't understand how someone could do that. Me either except I am old enough to know more about how people are. :sad1: If you could say a prayer today for DS to just have a blessed day, I would appreciate it. Life lessons are hard ya know. Thanks for the support. How nice in this difficult world to find friends on a message board to talk to.

JB I also ended up quitting work because DS couldn't be in day care. We were so worried but it was the best thing ever!!!! I now teach part time and love the flexibility of being home. I have since he was about 3. I know they have told you but be very careful about having Jacob out right now. DS ended up back in the hospital with RSV and it was not fun at all.

Hi y'all!!! I'm disappointed, I expected y'all to be on a new thread by now :lmao: . I still don't want to go back and catch up - too long. But I think for our next title it should be The Conservative Thread - don't blame us, we voted for McCain! :teeth:

Seriously though, I'm half glad McCain didn't get it - especially with the way he's acting now. We need strong conservatives folks!

I haven't fed y'all in awhile so how's abouts some lasagna! :teeth:

Oh that really looks wonderful! Thank-you! I am so hungry and have decided to only dine on virtual fating food this week so as to start preparing for the eating season!

Just wanted to subscribe to this great thread. Thanks.

:thumbsup2 I'm hoping to tag along on one of DH's business trips in December for a few days. I love that Florida is part of his territory!:yay:

This is priceless! ABC's Jake Tapper ran a story about Olbermann on Friday that I somehow missed. The man actually says he doesn't vote so he can remain impartial. On what planet does he think he comes across as impartial?

"This week on "The View," MSNBC's Keith Olbermann said he doesn't vote because "It's the only thing I can do that suggests even that I don't have a horse in the race."

"I know it's very idiosyncratic, but I would feel just a little hesitation, just a little drag on the airflow, if I went to criticize somebody, especially a president, for whom I had voted," Olbermann went on to say in a statement to Portfolio. "It is driven by the same thing that used to make me keep my distance from the athletes I covered. I don't want anything, even that tiny bit of symbolic connection, to stand in between me and my responsibility to be analytical and critical.""

HUH? I'm dumbfounded.

Just thought I'd stop in to say HI:wave2:

I've been super busy this weekend. Yesterday I made 7 dozen tamales which are a ton of work but soooo YUMMY!! Today I spent most of my time working on ebay which is what I do for extra money, I've got tons of inventory and sales have been down but I've got to move this stuff so I figured I would spend the weekend trying to get as much listed as I possibly can, hopefully sales will pick up a bit after Thanksgiving. Well I'm off to read through and try to catch up.

Tina
What kind of stuff do you sell on Ebay?

Tamales sound wonderful, though my eyes started to burn when I read about them. I can't handle spices lately. Must be all of the painting we are doing around here.

Just wanted to subscribe to this great thread. Thanks.

I'm so sorry for your DS. Will his insurance fix the door? Did someone back into his car? Pitiful.

Well hello everyone! Today I'll be finishing up the filing in the basment. Almost done! I've done 2004-2008 of DH's business paperwork (it was all just shoved in boxes). I'm hoping to tackle the kids' memorabilia next. When we moved here four years ago, I was 38.5 weeks pregnant with DH having a new job and us moving into a house that needed tons and tons of repair. We've done so much - all new windows, new doors, new garage door (the old one would just fall on its own), new shed, painted all but one room including the basement, rewired the basement, new water softener, new oven, new dishwasher, new bathroom cabinet and sink - we've done SO much! That's why I was so far behind on the filing - I'd just toss stuff in boxes and throw it under a table in the basement.

Now I just have the boxes of school papers and memorabilia to go through and toss. I'll keep a couple of things, but most of it will go to recycling. DH hopes to finish up the trim work in our bedroom and then I'll start painting the walls this weekend.

I'm pooped just from typing this!

Hope you all have a wonderful day today - don't talk too much - I won't be able to keep up!

Did you all hear the Beltway Boys on FOX ripping on Sarah Palin the other night (I think it was Friday). I was so annoyed that I needed to turn the TV off. Gah.

I'm getting some beginning sewing books from the library. I asked for a sewing machine for Christmas and DH just informed me two days ago that his mom has been asking us for 5 years if we wanted one. I said the next time she asks tell her yes. I also said he could mention it to her. :thumbsup2

Well isn't that nice. :rolleyes1
Just kidding. I'm glad you're having a good time!

Just wanted to subscribe to this great thread. Thanks.
Welcome! :yay:

DH is having a business breakfast with his job this morning and he said that after he gets home and takes a nap (he worked a 20 hour shift yesterday/this morning) he's taking me to lunch. He won't tell me where only that I'll like it.

Tink, I want to learn how to sew too. I do have a sewing machine and my DD and I want to take lessons together. She really wants to make clothes for her dolls. I told her that we'd get hopping on that after Christmas.

I have three stockings to make before Christmas (got to get to that after the basement and bedroom are done) but those stockings are hand appliqued. I can do that, but use a sewing machine and a pattern? Never done that before.

G'day all!

I sell Gymboree (all brand new with store tags still attached) and Victoria's Secret catalog closeouts (used to do lingerie and underwear but I'm just doing the clothing lines now).

The tamales are fabulous it's a Christmas tradition around here and my mom and great grandma used to make and all I had to do was eat them. Great grandma (Nana) has passed and mom has moved to Clovis so it's all me. I don't make them very spicy because my DD (7) loves them but can only handle a little heat so they're not very spicy but super yummy!!

Hello all,

Just checking in.....this thread moves so quickly I despair of ever keeping up.

I just wanted to share that we are now two weeks into our experiment with no cable TV (or really TV at all beyond DVD's for the kids).

It has been great! No stress from evening news or the omnipresent trash that represents the vast majority of the TV shows out there (with notable exceptions, DW misses Ugly Betty). But, we are spending quality time with each other by turning off the TV & don't expect to go back anytime soon.

Guess I need to write the networks and let them know at some point that they have officially lost us as viewers.
