Has anyone heard anything about the 2012 edition of this guide? It is my all time favorite Disney World guidebook!

[I am not talking about the Complete Idiot's guide, or the Unofficial guide... This one is called The Complete Walt Disney World.]

Amazon has had the 'Available for pre-order' up for a while now, and the publication date is listed as October 31, 2011, but when I just now went to look at it, it says 'Out of Print--Limited Availability'!! I am slightly panicked!

I know one of the authors visits here sometimes... (And if you happen to be reading this, your book is AMAZINGLY AWESOME! :worship: The best ANYWHERE!!) So maybe they can chime in! :)

From what I've read, the 2011 book did not arrive for sale until March of 2011.

Their latest update, The Complete Walt Disney World 2011, came out in late March 2011.

Maybe they couldn't get the 2012 book out as fast as planned.

I had pre-ordered this astonishing book, and got a message from Amazon this am saying the arrival date would be changed to mid-December.

I'll email Julie in a minute to see if I can find out what's up.

Thank you!

I know the 2011 was delayed due to deaths in the family. I hope everything is okay!

I love this book too. I hope the 2012 comes out before my Jan trip. Such great info on the parks and rides.

Thank you all for your kind words! Sorry about the incorrect date on Amazon; we're fixing that this morning. We're also going to print with the 2012 edition this morning. It should be available everywhere the first week or so in December. I'll post again soon with all the details about the new book. Thanks again everyone.

Will it be available for an e-reader? (we have both a Kindle and a Nook - long story)

Also, are there any guides you all can suggest for kids? DD will be 8, but reads at a 5th grade level. ?? I'm thinking Tracie Cook's Walt Disney World Adventure: A Field Guide and Activity Book for Explorers? (I read about it on a different thread this morning, but thought I'd get more opinions.)

Really, I'm looking for a book about the history and building of the parks, with secrets or cool "insider" stuff about the parks and resorts. Are there any books out there for late elementary / middle school kids like that?

Yes, the 2012 edition will be available as an eBook in January, for the iPad, Kindle, Nook and other digital devices. The eBook will have hundreds of color photos, videos, interactive maps and thousands of links. There will be additional material in the eBook that wouldn't fit into the print book. We haven't announced it officially yet :)

HOW EXCITING!!! I can't wait to check out the ebook version!!! :goodvibes

The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World is a fun book and I don't think it would be too difficult for your kids to read. It has a lot of behind the scenes stuff and fun facts about the parks. I think they'd enjoy it!

Just jumping in to say this is our absolute favorite guidebook. My kids (8, 5, & 2) love it too - they love the pictures and facts and it'll definitely be accompanying us on our Thanksgiving trip to POFQ!

Yeah! I've been checking back on amazon as the Oct publishing date was getting close and thought the sudden limited availability message was odd. Glad to hear it'll be out soon. I've been looking at a library copy but it's rather out of date- it still has MGM! Pictures are great though and I hope the new one is worth the wait!

Any updates??? I am sooo excited to get the new edition!! According to Amazon, it is only a couple of weeks before we can snag this awesome book!!! :)

Will this book be more up to date than other 2012 books due to a later publishing date? I'm finding the Unofficial 2012 guide already out of date and it's not even 2012 yet. We are going in June 2012 and would love to have a book, but with so many changes going on, I would love to find something that updates the changes.

I have always found the Complete Guide to be very up to date. However, with Disney World constantly changing things, most guide books are out of date after about the first half of the year anyway. At least that is what I have noticed.

And sort of OT... But, I have never really liked the Unofficial Guide. They try to be funny and just waste a lot of space with lame jokes and sarcasm.

The only two books I use now are the Complete Guide, and Passporter. Passorter has a great website that has updates page by page all throughout the year as things change at Disney World.

FIRST--I have NEVER read any of the books mentioned here

BUT-- I DID study Passporters cruise book...it was superflous if you are active on the DIS boards

SO:

my question: Why do you purchase a "guidebook" (not a 'secrets' or 'history of' book) when these boards are sooooo informative and CURRENT. I mean, people post FROM INSIDE THE PARK!!!

:confused3:confused3

what am i missing here?

It is just nice to have all that information together that you can easily carry around with you, without a lot of off topic chatter cluttering up the actual information. Plus, you can make notes in the Passporter, reservation numbers, highlight favorites or things to try, work on an itinerary, etc. Plus the Complete Guide has gorgeous pictures, many of which I have never seen online before. And they are just fun! If you like books... I love carrying it around to share with people when the topic of Disney World comes up!

I also find most message boards too full of whiny, vindictive, spiteful people who don't really add anything to most threads.

While this board has been so full of information and helpful to me, I read the Unofficial Guide before our first trip. It was a wealth of information. It was direct info without having to search for info here, post my 100 questions, and gave info I didn't think to ask. Further, it had tons of phone numbers, maps, and fact type stuff. I was able to easily learn about each ride as I was taking a small child and wanted to know about fright factors and things like that. It made it easy to know ahead of time what we should plan to do and how to do it with a small child.
After you've been there a couple times and have religiously read the disboards, I can see why you may not be interested in a guide. However, I like having a book to refer to so that I don't have to rely on the forums. Sometimes, I have a quick question that I can just look up rather than have to post.
Now that so much is changing, for example, Fantasyland, I would like to read about the new stuff. Also, I sometimes feel that certain questions will invite critical comments that I prefer to avoid.
Either way, the book is inexpensive at amazon.com, so why not?
