Daniel: "Thanks," he whispered back.

Professor Collins: The professor drew a triangle on the board and put one angle and an x on one of the sides. Then she wrote 'Find X'. "Who can do this problem?"

Max: Max smiled to herself. This was perfect. She raised her hand.

Professor Collins: The professor found it odd that Max was volunteering. But, maybe Max knew how to do this problem. "All right, come on up."

River: River sighed she knew Max had to have a reason for volunteering.

OOC: I have a feeling I know what Max is going to do lol ;)

Max: Max walked up to the board. She drew a circle around the x, then drew a line from that circle to the side and wrote, 'Found your x, though she's never going to come back to you, and don't ask me y.' Then Max smiled and went back to her seat.

Professor Collins: The professor stared at the board. Of course this sort of thing happened. She just sighed. "Detention, Miss Patterson. Can anyone do this problem correctly?"

OOC: Was that what you were thinking?

River: River shook her head, she just hoped this would stop here so Max's father did not find out anything.

Toby: Toby read what Max wrote on the board and stifled a laugh. He put his hand over his mouth and looked down. He couldn't believe what Max had done, it was clever. But something he would never dream of doing.

River: "I can professor" River said standing. She didn't want to do the problem in front of everyone but she knew she could, and she was hoping this would distract the professor from punishing Max any further.

OOC: just the circling x and saying found it, not the rest of it. Lol

Nate: From his position of arms folded across the desk and head lying on top of them, Nate laughed at Max's writing. She had guts, that was for sure.

Max: Max sat down and leaned back in her chair, a smug smile on her face. She was actually proud of her wit, and detention? When had that ever fazed her?

Professor Collins: "Thank you River."

River: River nodded at the professor. She walked up to the board and quickly started solving the problem. Then she paused, she could feel everyone watching her. She felt her heart start racing and her knees start to shake. She put one hand up to her head and forced herself to take a deep breath. Still feeling nervous she hurried to finish the problem and quickly sat back down in her seat.

Professor Collins: "Good job River, good job. Class is just about finished. Toby will be passing out your homework. Next is PE, so change into your gym clothes annd meet me at the back door once you get your homework."

River: River hated how nervous she got, she wanted to be comfortable with things like that but she wasn't.

Toby: Toby stood up to get the homework, and walked around the room passing it to each student.

Daniel: Daniel smiled at River, hoping to cheer her up. Then he smiled at Toby. "Thanks." He put his stuff away and got up.

Max: Max nodded at Toby and shoved her stuff into her bag. She got up and strode out of the classroom. She walked fast, not wanting anyone to catch up.

River: River smiled back at Daniel and shrugged "I'm okay" she said. She thanked Daniel for the homework and put it with the rest of her stuff and put it in her bag.

Toby: Toby finished passing out the papers, took one for himself and put it in his bag. He picked up his bag and groaned quietly. He did not want to go to PE.

Daniel: "Let's go upstairs," he said. Glancing over at Toby, he said, "It won't be so bad. Trust me, it's going to be much better than yesterday's Power and Combat class."

Max: Max reached her room. She changed quickly, knowing River was going to be there soon, and Max didn't want to be in the way. She took her hair out of the braid, but left it in a ponytail. She tied on her running shoes, glad for new comfort. Mary Janes were only so comfortable.

Nate: Nate grabbed his homework, stuffing it inside his bag. He couldn't wait for PE. It had been too long since he had beaten someone at a good game. Board games were ok, but didn't settle his need for competition as well as sports. "Are you all groaning about PE? C'mon. It's way better than sitting in a classroom."

Margo: Margo put away her homework and joined the others. "I wonder what we'll be doing?" She secretly hoped Nate lost whatever it was to put his ego in check.

Professor Collins: The professor was waiting at the back door. She was hoping with today that the students could loosen up a little.

Max: Max left her dorm and started going slowly for the stairs. She'd only rushed so she'd be out of the way and Toby wouldn't follow her but now she was alone. She was worrired though, that her shoulder would get messed up. She deserved it if it did though.

Daniel: "It''l be fine. Let's go guys, I don't wanna be late. I'd rather not have the professor mad at me, especiallly since she just gave Max detention."

River: "okay" River knocked on her room door, when she didn't get an answer she assumed Max must have already left. She went in, closed the door and quickly changed into her gym cloths. She walked back outside and waited or the others.

Toby: Toby went into his room and stood in front of the mirror, after standing there or what he knew was too long he grabbed his gym clothes and changed. He went through his suitcase and took out on of the many pairs of sneakers he had packed. He tied these on. One good thing about this school was that he didn't have to come up with ridiculous excuses for why he didn't like gym class. Everyone at his old school knew he was strong, not super human strong, but stronger than someone who doesn't spend hours working out. So to them it never made sense that Toby hated gym. He often made up excuses about not liking team sports, he only liked working against himself, or that he thought running was a waste when muscle could be built in other ways. Here people knew why he had the strength he did, it wasn't credited to weight lifting or anything like that.

Daniel: Daniel changed into his clothes, and then put on his tennis shoes. He grinned at himself at a last minute check and went outside to join his classmates.

Max: Max continued down the first flight of stairs and found herself at the top of the second flight. Not wanting to continue just yet, she sat down and put her head in her hands. She wasn't crying. Max never cried. She was stressed though. The professor hadn't contacted her father, but Max was paranoid that he knew about today. Her father always found out when she'd done something, even when the professors didn't tell him. He would be displeased that she'd gotten detention two days in a row. Normally Max didn't do that to herself, normally her intentional detentions were more spread out. But Max had to show River that nothing had changed and nothing would, and she had to scare Toby off. Normally the first day meant people backed off, but this was Toby's first day, and there was always the few interested parties that had to be warned off again. She couldn't exactly do that with River, but Max was sure there were others. There always were.

There was a lot of pressure on Maxine Patterson, and it hadn't gotten any better as she aged. Quite the opposite really. You'd think there was more danger in the younger years, because people would likely pay more attention to little kids. But, as a little kid, the misbehavior was seen as immaturity, a phase that she'd grow out of. That assumption wouldn't work now. Max was getting older. And with age, without the assumption, it was far, far easier to make a misstep, and far, far harder to protect herself, to stay hidden in the shadows where she belonged. It was so easy for things to fall apart as a teenager. Max had seen it before.

Toby: Toby took one last glance in the mirror, paused, but then forced himself to leave the room. He knew it was sad but this was his form of progress, he really did want to care less, and not meticulously looking at himself till the very last moment he walked out of the room was a huge step. He walked out to join the others "ready?" he asked.

River: "as I'll ever be" she said as an answer to Toby. She looked to Daniel for his response.

Daniel: Daniel smiled at her and made his way towards the stairs. People would tell him he'd fallen in love quick, probably too quick, but he didn't care. What he felt for River............it was special.

Max: Max took a deep breath and tried to pull herself together. She pulled her head roughly out of her hands. If anyone saw heer like that, they'd think she was crying, and Max wasn't weak enough to stoop to the level about crying over her problems.

Toby: Toby walked silently Behind Daniel and River. he smiled at how happy he could tell they were together.
