The closes grocery store to DLH

At DW we always had the transportation we used from the

airport stop at a grocery store so we could load up on snacky and

breakfast things. Since we are using the shuttle to get from

Orange Co. airport to DLH, I don't think they will allow for a

grocery stop. Can anyone tell me the closes one to DL in case we

decice to take a taxi?

<font color=navy>If you go south on Harbor Blvd., there are a couple of grocery stores - Albertsons, and a Food for Less, or something like that.

A closer one is on a cross street. 1.2 miles, I think. You go south on Harbor, and at Target turn left. I think it's a Vons (and pretty close to the Crystal Cathedral).

If you just want a few sundries, there is a 7-11 on the corner of Katella/Harbor - within walking distance, or you can take the ART, which is $3/day/adult, or $12/week/adult (or something like that).

You can also take the ART to the Residence Inn Marriott-Resort Area, and walk across the street to Target, if you'd like to do that.

Thanks Tinkerbellish. I will stay with one of the others then. I am

not familiar with Vons.

No problem. ;) The workers and what not are quite nice, but some of the shoppers aren't the nicest. There were some people hanging out outside of the store that weren't exactly the kind of people spreading the magic if you know what I mean.

If you're familiar with safeway, it's kind of the same deal. The building is quite worn down though.

Food 4 Less is about a mile west on Katella. There's a Sav-On and Hometown Buffet in the same center. (Which is no showplace, but location location location.)

We always shop at Foof 4 less when we go to DL...didn't know there were other stores around. We eat and Hometown buffet too. I've never felt unsafe there. There's a KMart a little farther down...I wouldn't go there again.

If you are staying in DH, there is a small store downstairs near the check-in desk that has some snacks, etc. Prices are similar to the 7-11 on the corner if I remember correctly (and even the somewhat higher prices than a grocery store are worth not spending $$$ on a taxi and time on getting back and forth).

There is a newly renovated Ralph's pretty close but I'm not sure exactly where. We got the Supershuttle guy to drop the guys and kids off at the hotel and take us girls to the grocery store at no charge! We tipped him very generously because it was much easier than taking a cab.

That might have been the Ralph's at Chapman and Euclid, caddycorner from a Starbucks and next to a Walgreen's.

Thanks! I am planning on asking the supper shuttle guy when I

call to confirm ressies, if he can give us a 30min. at a grocery

store. Someone on these boards didn't think they could do that,

but if you did, that gives me hope!!

We were able to do it with Supershuttle but he told us that normally you can't. Keep in mind that we also had an exclusive shuttle just for the 8 of us so there were no other people there. All of the Supershuttle vans have GPS systems in them so that the dispatchers know where they are at all times which is why they don't have a lot of flexibility. We were lucky because our driver had 40 minutes to kill before his next pick-up.

We were uncomfortable at Food 4 Less. There were flies on the produce and as I left the store with the kids to go to the car I was approached for money. A little scary.

California is sounding really scary to me!! I'm from a small Kansas

town, in fact I live way out in the country with rattlesnakes and

sage brush.

I did ask and was told by suppershuttle that they did not do that.

I will see what the driver says and if he can't, I'll just do the 7-11

thing. Thanks!! Oh, there are 7 of us and I think we will be the

only ones on our shuttle too because of having 9 bags!

:teeth: You'll be fine. It's really not scary in the area surrounding DL.

If they can fit someone else in with you they will unless you book it ahead and tell them you want exclusive service. With that many people you may have to wait quite a long time for a shuttle with that many available seats. You may want to book one ahead. It costs $102 each way which is $11 more than paying the per person fee for 7 people but it's worth knowing you won't have to wait forever. We had 8 people and 14 bags and had no problem fitting.

I have never felt unsafe in the Disneyland area. I wouldn't go out wondering at night, but during the day I have always felt fine. We always pack snacks in our suitcase. I buy in bulk and make snack size ziplock bags for the kids to choose from then I have room for the items I purchase while there. It works great for my family and saves money not having to buy snacks near Disney.

Mary Jo, Your post mentioned a couple of different Target locations. Do you know if those are "regular" Target stores or the newer ones that have the full grocery store in them? TIA

I'm also wondering what Ralph's is like. We don't have those around here...

The Ralphs that we went to was very nice. It looked brand new but I was told that it was recently renovated. My only complaint is that they should have had more people at the deli. There was only one person there who had no idea what she was doing and there was a very long line. I would definitely go back again. If you do go make sure you get one of their cards. The prices without it are outrageous. For example, red seedless grapes were $.69 a pound with the card and over $3.00 without it. We saved $8.00 on grapes alone!
