I have been absent from the Disboards forever now, but I think that is because I haven’t had an alone trip in forever. Well, things change over time, and the way we have learned to eat over that time period has changed drastically.

My partner in crime, Jenny was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and so we have been eating mostly paleo/primal for about 6 months now. We feel better when we eat this way, but it allows us to also splurge a little here and there (within reason, of course). Our diet consists of mostly fruits/vegetables and some meat at every meal: no grains, no dairy (for me anyway), no soy, and very little sugar. This makes a Disney trip very interesting. This will be the first time eating this way at Disney, and it will present some problems when it comes to our favorite foods.

But…it is another Disney World trip! And that is all that matters. This dining review will consist of a couple of things:

1. The food – duh
2. How easy it is to order no/low carb without relying on salads and buffets

I think it will be very easy. I say that now, but we will see just how easy it actually is. Couple that with a few food allergies, and it is going to be interesting. But at the very least, I am quite curious as to how it will all come out in the end.

Next up: The details of the trip including where we plan on eating. Stay tuned!

I am soooo excited for your review! I have been no/low carb and no sugar for 3 months and I love it but have a feeling that our Oct trip is going to be a challenge. I did note it on all my reservations...did you do that as well?

I didn't note it anywhere. This was a last minute trip, and we actually didn't make many reservations at all. From my experience on my last trip, you have to go through all of the hubbub of telling everyone your allergies anyway, and it is just easiest to tell them when you check in.

I am just glad I am not going during F&W this year! I couldn't handle the pressure!

I am also interested , I have been low carbing ( south beach) and seriously thinking of converting to paleo , for myself and my family , my son has severe ADHD and some anxiety issues and I am hoping the way of eating will help .
We are Disney bound mid October and my thoughts are to let go over the vacation , but i'm not even sure if I can still eat everything the way I used to

I find Paleo eating very interesting, just not sure my family would appreciate it! :confused3

Thanks for following! I hope I can live up to the MickiNicki review! I love the low-carb lifestyle paleo affords, but it is going to be a major challenge at the World. We have decided to splurge on the things we really like and leave it at that, but all meals are going to be as low carb as possible.

Thanks for following! I love paleo, but the limitations of the no grains is really hard some days. I love it because I never feel hungry though. I do find I feel so much better when I follow it as close as possible. I have read wonders about what it can do for ADHD kids, so it is worth a try!

Thanks for the response! I had always thought the no-carb thing was crazy until I tried it. It isn't as difficult as I thought it would be, but there are things I miss like pizza and sandwiches. We allow ourselves some of those splurges every now and then, but feel the repercussions of it the next day, so we limit those splurges now.

We actually did a slow move into it, so it wasn't as hard. Maybe you might have some luck that way.

Me - 40+ year old, oh who am I kidding...I am 42 and proud of it.:lmao: I am a major foodie, and have fallen in love with Disney World over the last 5 years. I am the planner aka control freak of this party and had complete control over where we are staying and what we are eating. Just like I like it. I mean, a trip to Disney World is all about the food, right?

Jenny - The "other" 40 year old in the party, and the one who knows my penchant and passion for planning, and lets me do whatever I want. Well, almost. She did have some say so in where we were eating. But she lets me go to Disney World on a somewhat regular basis, so I can't complain.

We are both Haunted Mansion and Fantasia fanatics and love Disney World completely, which is why we fit so well together. She is growing into a foodie, which makes me so very happy.

The Trip Deets

Where? Port Orleans Riverside - We actually ventured over here last year for dinner at Boatwrights and sort of fell in love with the place. This will be our very first time staying here and hope to have a most excellent stay.

When? September 2nd-September 10th - The "slow" season...I hope anyway.

Food? This is a dining review isn't it...so here is where we are definitely going to eat because I wanted to make sure we crossed this stuff off of our list.

Tusker House lunch - This was a Jenny request. She loves character dining and this was a must-do at Animal Kingdom since I don't eat at Landry's restaurants...ever.

Akershus Princess Breakfast - This was another Jenny request. (See a pattern here? :rotfl2:) We both loved this breakfast when we went a few years ago and it gets us into Epcot early, and I can't complain about that at all.

California Grill - I have been wanting to eat here for as long as I can remember and have never been able to talk anyone into going with me. Well, since it is just Jenny and me this year, it is on!

La Hacienda de San Angel - This is a place we have been wanting to go ever since it opened, and it just hasn't been easy to get reservations, but I snagged one up this time around. And we <3 Mexican food living in Texas and all.

Tutto Italia - We haven't been here in years and since I read that it has been redone and updated, I am kind of excited about it. I love Italian food, and doing the whole paleo thing, it isn't something we do very often, so I am very excited. And I am Italian...so what's not to love about Italian food?

Everything else is going to be fly by the seat of our pants. Anywhere we can get a reservation, or even a walk up is going to be what we eat. No rules, no reservations, no nothing this trip. Nice and relaxing with no place to be except for a very few places.

This ought to be fun!

I can't wait for your trip! I've been dabbling in a Paleo-ish diet for a little while now and I have found it has been helping me cut some extra weight :cool1:

I'm interested to see how well you do during your trip. I hope you have a great time!

Very cool!! Looking forward to your review. I followed a paleo/primal diet very strictly for six months in 2010-2011 and I lost 40+ pounds with almost zero effort. I've been slacking the past year because I've been juggling being a full time student with being an almost full time worker. I have a crazy schedule and I find myself eating at restaurants/take away type places a lot which is hard to do primally on a college student's budget. I go back to just working after my Disney trip in a few weeks and plan on giving a primal diet another solid go to lose some more weight.

My DBf eats paleo all the time and loves it. He's ridiculously healthy and has like 6% body fat. He loves his abs so much that he doesn't even miss sweets and breads.

He will probably follow a primal diet around 50% of the time on our trip, but it's almost impossible on an 11 day trip with the dining plan.

Anyway, have a great trip! And good luck on your journey of paleo eating at Disney :)

Thanks for joining! We have found it hasn't made us lose any weight, but we are losing inches like crazy. (When we stick to it strictly anyway). It has controlled my hypoglycemia and Jenny's blood sugar, and that was really what we wanted out of paleo, so we are happy with all of the results we have been getting!

Thanks for joining! And congrats on the 40! :woohoo: We actually planned on making our meals as paleo as we can, but are under no illusions that it may be somewhat difficult. I wish I could lose some weight on paleo, but I think I splurge too much. I need to be 100% and not 80/20 like everyone else does. I lost 50 pounds doing conventional wisdom, but have lost some major inches on paleo, so I know if I stick to it like I should, I will lose the weight. We will see how Disney goes, because I have a sweet tooth that just won't quit. (and I like to drink a little too)

I am SO interested in reading your reviews! I went Primal right before finding out I was pregnant, and once I knew that I was even more dedicated. Being gluten free, I have a little experience at Disney with low carb options, but I cannot wait to try out a more Primal eating plan when we head there in October! Of course you're right - there will certainly be a few splurges (Mickey Waffles and Babycakes Bakery!!)
