Adventures in Animal Kingdom.
Cast:
Myself: Tony the Husband
My darling wife Liz
I awoke very early and sat out on the balcony looking at the animals all morning. It was fascinating having Giraffe, Gazelle, Ostriches, Cattle, and various other animals so close and right outside your window when you wake up. I decided that I would have to come back here every year. I had never stayed in a Disney resort before but it really is amazing and fun and I will definitely do it again and again. I was out there for a couple of hours before DW awoke and wanted to know what I was doing up so early. It was 7am, which is very early on a non-working day for her. I said that the view is great and she should come and look, she did, briefly, and then went back to bed for another hour or so. She had forgotten her hair brush and a few other things so I went downstairs to the store while she was sleeping and picked up what she needed and some breakfast stuff and went back to wake her. We showered and got dressed and decided to head over to Animal Kingdom for the first day, I had to get more of an animal fix. We looked for the bride and groom ears at AK but they do not have them anywhere (we found out that this is about the only place in WDW that doesnt have them). We started out heading towards the safari and stopped along the way to look at all of the animals. We wanted to get a picture taken and for the first time in well over twenty years of visiting Disney, the photographer did not try to stop us, we actually had to ask her to take the picture for us. So we got our picture in front of the Tree of Life and headed towards the safari again. We got fast passes and wondered a bit more through some stores and decided that we had time for lunch before our fast pass time came up so we went to Pizzafari. The food wasnt too bad although I usually dont like Theme park pizza, and we had a whole room to ourselves while eating. We went to the safari and the CM putting everyone in there seats put us in row three, after everyone was assigned a row she cam up to us and put us by ourselves in to row one and just smiled, it was very nice of her. The safari was great that day, the baby elephant was out and playing and there was even a baby hippo getting harassed by some birds. It was quite funny as the hippo would just lie there until it couldnt take it anymore and then charge the birds and chase them away. We then walked through the gorilla area and looked at all of the animals there. It was the hottest part of the day so most of the animals were hiding in the shade. We did see a very large silverback gorilla, which was awesome. Then we went to Asia to do the animal walk-through there, the tigers and bats are always very cool to look at. I have to say here that I wish there was a better pathway from the safari to Asia, it seems very inconvenient to me, oh well. DW wanted to see the Tarzan rocks show because it is one of the few things that we hadnt see there. I really didnt like the show that much, the movie is one of my favorites and I like the music but the performance wasnt that great, and the acrobatics were really non-existent. DW however noticed something that most women do at the show, Tarzan is apparently very hot, as I was told this over and over and she made sure I took a few pictures of him while she and the ladies behind us whistled and woofed at Tarzan the entire time he was on stage. And you think men are bad, we just dont hide it as well. After that we went on the Dinospin coaster, that was fun, a little rough and probably not worth a long wait, but considering it was a walk on I didnt mind it. We also brought our Pal Mickey for this trip and while the first trip we had him at MK, he hardly talked, at AK he never shut up. He talked about ever animal and was like our own little tour guide. We headed out after this and stopped to check out our pictures, both were terrible, in one my eyes were closed and in the second she snapped the picture while we were moving in the position she told us to pose in. A little disappointing but I was too happy to care. We went to DTD after and bought some custom t-shirts at the Roboshirt place. My shirt had Beast and said Lizs Beast, Just Married, October 25th 2003 her was the same except with Belle and the first line said Tonys Belle on it, and the bride and groom mouse ears. We had sundaes at Ghiradellis and then went back to the hotel to rest before dinner. We put on our ears and headed to dinner at Bomas, this place was great. The staff was very nice and they all congratulated us and while we were getting food they brought over a plate with dessert with happy honeymoon written in chocolate on it. They also gave us a very nice card with congratulations and other phrases written in African dialects in it, it was very nice, DW almost cried and she made me run out a get our camera to take a picture. The chef came by and talked to us during dinner and told us all about everything on the buffet and asked us all about ourselves, he was very nice. We had a great dinner and I thanked the staff and left a very good tip for them, I will definitely go back on future trips. Off to the room for sleep see you tomorrow for the next report Day 2 relaxing around the resort and mini-golf.
