Some have reported signage that RSR was not operating, along with CMs verbally telling guests about RSR being down. However, I was there last week and one morning RSR was not up. There were no signs and no one told us, so we went all the way to RSR where they made an announcement. So, I would ask.

When the rides were down and the waits were "short" (45 min-over an hour) before they started up again, we were told when we lined up for the ride. When the rides were down until 10am, we were told right before the countdown at the gates.

The day we came in (though NOT for EMH) and it wasn't running, there was a sign as we entered the park. Said, very clearly, that it would open at noon.

so we stayed away.

And when we came in around 11, it was open, had been open, the line was very very long.

So...don't necessarily believe them!

Question: Is there an entrance to the Paradise Pier section of the park from Pacific Wharf near Cocina Cucamonga? On the park map it looks like there may be by "N" at Pacific Wharf. Can someone confirm this? This would be a nice shortcut from CL to PP.

There are two paths between CL and PP. If you walk behind Filmore's geodesic dome, you will go through a food court and then over a truss bridge into PP. There is another entrance through the rock arch just east of RSR entrance.

We are just back from a 4 night stay at GCV and I wouldn't exactly discourage you from using the GCH entrance for early entrance. We were told at check-in to use the entrance if it's before 6:30. After that, they did tell us that we were better off using the main entrance. So on our first day, we were down by about 6:35 maybe even a little later and thought we would try the GCH entrance. There was a line that snakes out of the tunnel (the entrance has maybe a 30 foot long tunnel with bag checkers about half way down and ticket machines at the very end). So the line started at the bag check table and snaked to just about where the counter service restaurant is. We were just about that location, maybe a little further up. About 10 feet behind us they had it snack back so you are facing towards the counter service restaurant. A fellow traveler who had been there all week told us that we were good as long as we were lined up along the wall. Once you make the bend and are on the other side of the snake he said you are better off going to the main gate. He was pretty much right. About 10 to 7am they start checking bags for as many people as they can fit beyond them in the tunnel up to the ticket takers. We were one of those people who got our bag checked. There are only 2 bag checkers, but if you get in during that period at 10 to 7, you are done with that. From that point you could pick a ticket line and I want to say there were 3 machines maybe 4 operating. At 7 they did start taking our tickets and they scan them much quicker (for those of us used to WDW with the fingerprints it is soooo slow--DL uses just a bar code scan). So we were in at about 7:02. We bee-lined it to RSR and were probably at least in the first 50 to ride if not less. We barely waited. It just takes a while to snake through the line. We were then able to ride the other CL attractions while DH got in the FP line just at about 7:45. He was out just after 8am and we went to Paradise Pier and walked onto everything--repeatedly. We didn't get to TSM until later and by then it had a 20 minute wait which is really nothing.

Another day of the trip we used the same entrance around 7:30 and walked right in. We did see a small-ish sign located some feet beyond the ticket booths that said RSR wouldn't be open until 10am. Nobody said anything to us when we entered, and it's is quite possible that we might have missed the sign if we weren't aware. When that happens, it drags everything else down because we were hoping to have another morning walking onto everything at PP but things were a little more crowded. TSM was about 40 minutes (this was probably around 8:30 or maybe later).

Sorry to make this so long, but maybe it's helpful to somebody staying at GCH. It is possible to take advantage of the convenience of the park entrance and still ride RSR right away. Just be sure you are not part of the 2nd loop of the snake.

Thanks for the info. So once you entered the park, did you walk towards Soarin' or did you go to the right around GRR ending up at PP? It's hard to tell on the Official Park Map which route is shorter since that map is not to scale. I imagine the PP route would be less traveled at the beginning of EMH.

We walked by Soarin' and when we got to teh entrance of Carsland we saw a handful of people coming the PP route--they were about the same place in line as us so it's probably about the same. We did jog a little. It's hard to say which one is really better--probably the route you are more familiar with and comfortable so that you really know where you're going. Good luck!

Just a side thought about the GCH entrance. When we went in May one of the scanner machines wasn't working and it really slowed things down. This was in the middle of the afternoon and there were very few people at first but it started backing up as they couldn't get it to work. Plus the other CM was spending part of their time talking with our CM trying to figure it out rather than checking people through. I can't imagine the tension if something like that happened on a EE morning. At least at the front of the park there are multiple entrances, not just two scanners if something goes wrong.
