You won't give up your seat because you need it. There's nothing wrong with that. Now, if it was me in your situation, I might give it up if I thought someone was in worse shape than me, but otherwise, I'd be keeping it too.

Yeah, but people will be looking at me thinking that I should be standing up for somebody else because I look normal because I have a condition that isn't readily apparent. As for the worse shape thing... I would probably stand up for a mother holding a young child if nobody else stood up, but I wouldn't be happy about it!

To each, his own, but I always offer my seat to children, ladies, elderly, and men holding children. My wife will, usually, sit with my 2 kids, and I will stand with the stroller. I feel like I can, even though I am not a cast member, bring a little magic to someone's evening by being considerate and being a little inconvenienced to provide comfort to another.

It is what I hope someone would do for my wife. (And many people have)

I rarely ever get a seat leaving the park (unless we are leaving at an odd time), I do sometimes in the morning. I WILL give up my seat for a pregnant lady or elderly..if it''s easy to do. If I am trapped in the back then no. People with wheelchairs and scooters are already allowed on first.

HOWEVER I also believe that if you REQUIRE a seat for yourself,children or whoever in your party then you should make arrangements to do so. Like wait for another bus, let others willing to stand go ahead of you,so your first for the next bus and you'll get your seat,take your own transportation,call a taxi etc..there are many ways around WDW.

Just out of curiosity, at what age is someone elderly?

I was reading about a man who died on an excursion from a cruise ship in Alaska. They said the elderly man died of a heart attack. The went on to list his name and age 67. I turned to my DH and told him he was now officially "elderly". Most people think that he is in his 50s and are surprised to find out how old he really is.

Good question. My dad is now in his 70's, and will still get up and give his seat to someone that he think could use it.

Wanted to respond to another thread about the buses but it was closed. It concerned the scooter policy and having them load before everyone else who was waiting in line already. Someone in that thread asked what the OP would suggest as a solution ~ here's mine. The bus lines should be monitored and those in scooters should have one person in their party wait in the regular line. When that person reaches the front of the line, then that group can board first on the next bus. We had this problem last November and it was very frustrating being in line for 15 or 20 minutes thinking we would board the bus when it arrived, only to have to wait again because a scooter pulled up just before the bus!

Pregnant or elderly people deserve to sit, especially after a long day in the parks. What I don't get are the perfectly healthy 10,11,12 year olds that are sitting all around them (who will probably be going back to their resort and play for another three hours) and their parents say nothing.

I felt this way too until last year. When we would get on the bus in the mornings parents with toddlers would allow them to take up seats instead of holding them taking up extra seats that others could have seated. But at the end of the day after my family and others standing on the morning bus if my family got on and got seated I didn't feel bad about sitting because some of those getting on were most likely the ones that allowed their toddlers to take up those extra seats that morning. Now my husband would get up for someone holding a sleeping baby and I held my 10yr old at the time and parents if I can hold my 10 yr old 90 pd kid I think that your toddlers can be held too.[/B]

Regarding special transportation: I've actually been offered a personal van pick-up after discussing a very disappointing bus experience with Transportation Management. Heck, I've used Magical Express and rented a car on the same trip!

I didn't expect to hear this. I just keep thinking about it. What on earth could have happened? You can spare me the details but dare I say that I am on high alert now. I don't want to panic, I'm keeping my poker face while in the midst of DH. I casually brought up the idea of renting a car and he said "as long as you drive".

So I guess there will be no rental car for now. If I encounter any tomfoolery on these buses, I will drive. I appreciate you sharing that with us, I hope Disney made it up to you.

I think many of us who argue that the family should be the ones looking after its family members are also quick to hop up and offer our seats.

We can discern the difference between "needs and wants". We think of how we will impact others before making decisions **empathy** and we take pride in being as independent as possible.

Those on scooters have to board before those on foot (a rule set by WDW). The PP's suggestion is that a member of the party traveling with someone on scooter get in line and then, when said member gets to the front of the line, the person in the scooter (and their party) can board first on the NEXT bus. So, even if the member was right near the front of the line (I used fourth person as an example), the party would not be able to board the first bus that came, they'd have to wait for the second bus.

The only way that a party traveling with a scooter would be able to board the first bus that came, was if they were the very first people to arrive at the bus stop.

Hardly seems like a fair solution.

While the basis behind it is sound, the problem lies with logistics and "legality"*.

*(Not sure if it's a FL/Fed/County law, or just Disney policy)

It's required that ECVs and the like get on the bus first. This isn't to give them an edge, nor is it out of pity or anything of the like, it's due to the mechanics of the bus. The ECV takes up several seat spots as it must be tied down. It's also a lot easier to maneuver on an empty bus than a full one and there are far fewer feet to run over.

There are problems at multiple bus stop places (whether shared, or the mods with more than 1 stop internally) and an ECV needs to get on when the bus is already full. Some times they simply can't, and there isn't anything they can do, while they squeeze a few standees around.

Then, if it's an older couple and they're both riding, who's going to wait in the normal line?

So, I do understand where you're coming from, and not intending to rail on your idea at all, but it just won't work in this scenario.

The age at which they feel it . This can range from 23 to 123 .

But WHO decides whether they are elderly enough? The person who is or feels elderly or the people who think they are or are not elderly? Like I said, I am younger than my DH and I usually need the seat. He on the other hand will opt to stand and leave others have the seat. In the morning, when I am well rested, I can usually handle standing if need be, but at night after walking the parks my legs don't hold me as well and my equilibrium aren't conducive to standing. That is when I will wait for the next bus. Standing at the bus stop I am standing still or I can sit on the ground if need be. The moving bus, when I am in that condition, is dangerous for me to be standing. If I lose my balance, I could end up falling on someone.

Sometimes people using ECV wait much longer then if they were in a regular line, unfair works both ways. The way things are is to protect our feet and to protect rights of people in ECV or wheelchairs. I am sure that those creating rules and regulations played out different situations and this is the best way things can work.

Some posters can't seem to understand that if you are in a wheelchair or scooter at WDW you always do more than your fair share of waiting. .Waiting for a bus that has a lift that works, or one of its 3 spots for scooters open. Or for a ride vehical that will accomodate your chair.

And some people are, to be quite frank, just heartless jerks. They lack the ability to put themselves into another person's shoes and see that riding around in a scooter all day is not fun and games.
