The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

My dd and I have been season tickets holders for our local Broadway season for 12 years, and have seen enough shows that we each have 5 plastic boxes full of playbills, but only two have been on Broadway itself. That was during a NYC vacation. I have never gone just for show, no matter how many times I have wanted to. But his morning I bought 4 tickets to the Outsiders in mid September! That has been my favorite book for about 45 years, and I have read it dozens of times, and I just HAD to see this with the original cast. I was so excited I was shaking when I pushed the button. I cannot wait!!

You will love The Outsiders! Such a great show and cast!

It's NYC Restaurant Week again! (Really it's about a month.)

From July 22 to August 18, enjoy prix-fixe dining at participating restaurants citywide.

"Discover delicious finds throughout the five boroughs with 2-course lunches and 3-course dinners at $30, $45 and $60. NYC Restaurant Week returns July 22 through August 18, with some restaurants offering their menus through September 1.

:teacher: A friendly FYI: Saturdays are excluded from NYC Restaurant Week. Sundays are optional—please confirm with the restaurant before booking."

If you haven't seen the musical Chicago yet, now may be the time. Three Time TONY Nominee Charlotte d'Amboise is reprising her rendition of Roxie. She's played the character on and off since 1997.

(I *suspect* she comes back for a few months every year or so to keep her Equity insurance benefits. Actors' Equity members will need to work 19 weeks to qualify for a year of health insurance coverage. :ssst: )

Am I the only one who wasn't familiar with the website broadwayleague.com ? DS sent me the link because I was asking so many questions about different shows. Boy, you can really spend more than a few hours clicking through random things on there.

anyone have a dining suggestion near this theater and the Hyatt Centric? We are pretty casual, pub/grill type places are what we like. Would like to make reservations on show night, to avoid being late due to long wait.

How close to the theater do you want? Do you have kids with you?

On 9th is 5 napkin burger, but I’m not sure they take reservations, there is O’Donoghues on 44th, while the food is just ok my girls love sugar factory, playwright Celtic pub is ok, one of my go to spots is Daniela’s it’s Italian, quick but nothing special. I also like glass house tavern but that isn’t pub food.

If I have more time I like a bunch of spots on 10th.

The perfect pint is next to your hotel, and Connolly they are both good. Bobby vans grill is across the stress and I think it’s gone down hill but I still eat there for some shows.

If you want to venture further or other types of food let me know.

Thank you! My kids will be with me, but they are 28 and 31 LOL. I was actually looking at the Perfect Pint. Since we are only there a day and a half, we want to stick close by, within a few blocks.

I mean it is very instagramable (sugar factory) if they are into that.

I think most go these are decent spots, if you want to go to 9th 44andX is good and a ton of other cute spots.

Blech LOL, we have a Sugar Factory here, I walk by it with my jaw on the floor. Definitely not for us LOL.
I will look at a map later and see how far we would want to go. 9th and 44th is just a few blocks I believe?

Haha! I agree not my spot, but my daughter requests it and this place Mamas bar and kitchen every time!!

Sorry 44 and X is on 10th sorry! It’s not far but it’s avenues not blocks so a but of a walk from your hotel. There are also a few good spots on 8th so you have options if your trying to stay closer.

Mamas is 9th and 48.

Have a great trip!

Ah I see, 44 and X is a place.
My kids are not the sugar factory types thank goodness LOL. My dd spent 6 months in the UK, so she is definitely an Irish Pub kinda girl, which is why I was thinking maybe Perfect Pint.

Hyatt is a great hotel and location! I also agree with 5 napkins. Right around the corner of the theater is Playwrights which is pub food. Also on 46th or 47th is restaurant row with some good options. Italian is Tre Colori or on the same street as the Jacobs is Juniors which is a deli. Hope this helps!

My friend and I took 2 of my granddaughters to see Aladdin last week. My friend is friends with the Genie (the understudy) and we knew he was performing that night. He invited us back stage after the show and was so gracious showing us all the props and sets and costumes. It was heaven‼️🤩🥰. Being on the actual stage and looking out into the seats was something else. Of course the show was terrific and he was awesome as Genie. I’ll come back and post pics when I get them resized. Here are some!! His name is Jeremy Gaston and he has been with Disney for many years. Before this gig he was the in the traveling Aladdin show for a long time.

I finally made it to Broadway. I have a subscription to “ Broadway Across Canada” but now have seen actual NYC Broadway show. We just got back a few days ago from a week trip. We saw Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Loved them all. For The Great Gatsby it was the understudy for Eva Noblezada but she was very good. Glad that I got to see Aaron Tveit in Moulin Rouge. Was an amazing week!

I'm glad to hear good things about The Great Gatsby. I'll be seeing that on October 5th.

I think my dd and I would faint if we got to see Aaron.

I'm thinking of finally going to see him. He's been in it twice, and I regret not going. But, the story is a downer. Yet seeing Aaron might be worth it.

Ha, we would see him in ANYTHING. That said, I liked the musical much better than the film (even without him). Still the same ending but more enjoyable overall.
