The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

We are going to American Psycho next week since we haven't seen it yet. I feel bad as a friend is a producer. We almost invested with him and something about the show didn't strike a cord with us so we passed but honestly feel bad for our friend. This is his 2nd show this season to not do as well as expected (the other was Nerds).

I think it's a hard season, even good shows aren't getting enough press IMO.... So much press on Hamilton other shows that normally would get a ton of press aren't getting enough.

American Psycho is closing!!! Waaahhhhh!! I really wanted to see it in August!! Hell's Bells!!!!!!

I really wanted to get out to see this, too, though it was looking unlikely because my regular travel companions are either teens or squeamish adults. I'm sorry I won't get to see it (and that you won't either.)

So I got an email from Telecharge saying so sorry AP is closing but perhaps you would like to switch your tickets to another sooner performance? Not so easy when you live in British Columbia. Or it suggested we switch to another Telecharge show. No mention of an outright refund so am I out of luck? I know that I can pick another show but AP and Curious Incident were the only two shows that I prebooked because I wanted great seats. Was planning to pick up others once there. Has anyone else dealt with this? I guess maybe I could replace it with Bright Star... its getting lots of good buzz.

You should be getting a full refund. Pretty crappy for them to be offering you other shows. Politely respond that since you can not attend an earlier showing you would like a full refund including fees paid.

Went to see two shows a few weekends ago, which was a first for us since we usually take the train in and return the same day, but this time we stayed over. Saw Something Rotten, which was hilarious. Also won the lottery for Wicked.

I also wanted to mention that I recommended the website BroadwayforBrokePeople to get info on rush and lotteries. I still would say it's useful as a guide and for general info, but I found out it's not 100% accurate, so I'd also check the shows website or another source. For example, the Something Rotten lottery was open for multiple dates at once. I entered a few days ahead of time, but when my daughter went to enter at a time BroadwayforBrokePeople said the lottery should still have been open, it was already closed.

And I'm very excited that Corbin Bleu is in the cast of Holiday Inn! I fell in love with him when he was on Dancing with the Stars. He just seemed like a polite, gracious young man who always took criticism well. Hoping we can use my daughters membership in Hiptix when tickets go on sale to snag an inexpensive ticket to this show.

My DD met Corbin Bleu twice and said he was extremely pleasant! Glad to see he's going to be back on Broadway!

I was able to switch my tickets for Tuck Everlasting from June 21 to last night. I really liked the show, it's very emotional specially the last 15 minutes - I loved that part but maybe it's because I'm dancer's Mom and love ballet and interpretive ballet/dance, We really got to talk to the actors outside (actually walked with Terrence Mann to subway-and he stood and talked to us for a few minutes) and they were all very nice, professional and sweet. This show took 6 years to bring to Broadway, has fantastic reviews, a great talented cast and it's closing because of such slow ticket sales. Of course, last night it was a packed house. Andrew actually talked to us for about 5 minutes, which I'm sure made others down the line a little bit upset - but we had met him before when he came to my DD high school when he was at PaperMill in EverAfter. He even remembered my daughter when he saw her and said "Yentl, right?" She was playing Yentl when he came.

I really wish that Shubert Productions had given it some time, till the end of the summer season. I'm happy that I saw it (I really can't say that about some shows I've seen)!

My heart breaks when I see a good show close much too soon! I felt Bonnie & Clyde wasn't given a chance at all. I get it's a business and all, but when a few critics sometime speak for the masses, it frustrates me. Andrew is a sweet guy. We've met him a number of times and he and DH always talk about being back home in Michigan. ;-)

Lin's last day in Hamilton was announced. It is next month July 9th.

We took friends to The Lion King last night as a pre-baby outing. They loved it but maybe because it was my 4th time it was a little rough. The show definitely needs some costume and stage refurbishments. Would do them well to shut for a month and revamp everything. Also some of the longer running cast aren't that great any more. I couldn't understand most of Scar or the hyena's. Adult Simba and Nala were great though. Also what is up with Zazu never being 100% audible. I always found it so bad that he gets lost in I just can't wait to be king. I barely could hear him last night and we were in row K.

I remember when Streisand was in Funny Girl she used to complain about all the dust on the sets that were never cleaned during the run.

.

Any idea on when we might know about the rest of the cast? I know all their contracts expire in July as well, right? I have tickets in September and am expecting that most of the originals will be gone but am keeping my fingers crossed that maybe one or two might stick around.

I found out it wasn't actually concrete but seems to be from very trusty sources and everyone is running it as gospel right now. I haven't heard anyone else is leaving but did hear contract negotiations are pretty intense right now so we will find out in the next couple weeks.

I read several places (but don't know how accurate it is) that Chris Jackson seems to be hinting that he'll stay on. He's shooting a series for television, but apparently it shoots in New York so he would be able to do both a la Alan Cummings. I don't know that this is true, but I hope so. :)

My fingers are crossed pretty tight for Leslie Odom Jr. to stay on but I am doubtful it will happen. LOL My dad keeps asking me about Daveed Diggs because he freaking loves what he has seen of him as Jefferson and will be so bummed if it is someone else.

I'll take anyone of the original cast that I can get though. Do you think Javier Munoz will just step in for Lin permanently or will they cast someone else? I've read great things about him in the role.
