The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I found a bootleg copy of Next to Normal on youtube. I only made it through act 1. That show is so hard to get through. Amazing cast though. Marin Mazzie and her husband played the husband and wife.

Just bought tickets yesterday to the touring show of "Hello, Dolly!", starring Sally Struthers. This venue will also be hosting "Jersey Boys", "Rock of Ages", "Cirque Dreams Rocks", "An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Pitinkin" and "Rain" (Beatles tribute). I thought it is a great line up for this year and plan to see all except maybe Rain as DH is not a big Beatles fan. The theater is beautiful and it's much easier and less expensive than going into NYC, and the quality of the shows is phenomenal!

I saw a local production of Hedwig and the Angry inch in preview last week.big fan of the movie and the play did NOT disappoint!

We saw it. Very difficult subject for a musical.

We saw it with Alice Ripley. Wow, amazing beautiful show, but sooooooooooooo hard to watch. Just ripped your heart out and stomped all over it. My daughter cried half the way home when it was over. We have the soundtrack, but I really can't listen to it.

Loved Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Saw it a few times back when it first opened off-Broadway, and then again right before they started shooting the movie.

The movie's pretty good, but I adore the stage version. One of the times I saw it, John Cameron Mitchell caught a guy heading to the bathroom and followed him in. The microphone was still on, and I can't even repeat how that played out here. :rotfl2:

It's supposed to be coming to Broadway with Neil Patrick Harris as Hedwig, I can't wait to check that out.

Can that be right?! NPH?! Oh how I adore him!

Yeah it royally screw me up emotionally for the night. It hit very close to home. I was telling DH about it and almost started crying again. Not a huge Alice Ripely fan, but after watching half the show she deserved her Tony award. To do that night after night. Ugh! Just rips your heart out.

Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of her voice but they probably went for acting over vocals when casting... This show is PHENOMENAL :worship:

Exactly. I saw Act 1 with Marin Mazzie and she was phenomenal. I cannot imagine doing that show night after night. I was emotionally drained and I only saw the first act.

You MUST watch the second act!! It is even better than the first act, if that's possible!

I saw Jersey Boys last year. It was just "ok" for me. I'm not big into that kind of music and didn't appreaciate all the swearing.

I worked Jersey Boys when their Broadway tour came through my town and I wasn't a fan of all the swearing either - didn't appreciate listening to it every single night! :sad2:

I will! I am expecting boy #3 in a couple weeks, so this show hit REALLY close to home. I told DH I would watch AFTER I deliver the baby. :goodvibes

Oh definitely. Make sure you aren't extra hormonal because you will cry like a baby ::yes:: I knew how it ended (obviously... the cast recording reveals all!) and I still sobbed!

I bawled during Act 1! I knew what was going to happen during every scene and song, thank you wikipedia :thumbsup2, and I still sobbed hysterically. I realized I was not in a good time to watch this show.

This is OT but I just found out Laura Bell Bundy is performing in my city right this moment and I didn't know!! I completely missed out!! Arghhhh

I saw the Evita tour last weekend (opening night) in Providence and the Wicked tour the weekend before that in Boston. Both were excellent and getting to go to an opening night was a lot of fun! I've been to a lot of shows in my life, but Evita was my first ever opening night.

So sad! Yeah I missed Heather Headley a few years ago. I drove by the civic theater and their was a big sign advertising her concert that night. I was a very sad girl. :sad1:
