The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Wonderland (or at least I think that's the title of the show)
Anyone heard about this new Disney production of the classic Alice in Wonderland musical coming to Broadway?
I've been a big fan of how Disney does their musicals and can't wait to see this one...

I saw this twice - as it was developed and previewed in Tampa! LOVE this. It is not based on the Disney story tho. It is a story of Alice "all grown up" and then going back into Wonderland to find itself. It is hilarious, endearing, and supremely enjoyable. It was also really neat to see how they changed it during production... they both added and took away songs and scenes, changed the cast, etc. I LOVE the "One Knight" song so much. But I miss the Jabberwock scene from the initial showing.

We saw West Side Story last night! My first time seeing the play - but I grew up addicted to the movie. It was kind of funny seeing it live... the seriousness of the dance fighting and all... but way enjoyable! :thumbsup2

I think that Wonderland was written by the same guy that did Jeckyll and Hyde.

Deb in IA- I always try to sit right up front in any show I watch. Seriously, if I have a choice of places to sit, I won't get tickets more than 9 rows back. I'll choose a different night. LOL I especially love to sit in the 1st row so that I don't miss anything with the actors and their faces. You can get a real connection with some of the actors that way too since they can also see you.

Ashleybea: Is Don Gallegher still in the cast of Priscilla? My daughter knows him and was wondering what he's doing lately.

There are disadvantages to sitting TOO close for certain shows, though. My daughter and I had first row tickets to Rent on Bway a few years back. Got spit on a few times when the actors were really belting it out. (No orchestra pit to protect us-we could have reached out and touched someone.)

I noticed this when we went to American Idiot last weekend. I was glad I sitting in row B of the mezzanine. :rotfl2:

I told DH if Billie Joe spit on me I would never wash again :lmao:

eh Sorry, I don't know anything about Priscilla. I tried googeling it and couldn't find anything about him leaving the show so he might be.

By the way, 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables on PBS on Sunday. This is according to Lea Salonga's twitter.

It's showing from 7pm to 10 pm here in KY. :) All set to DVR and get my "fix."

Yeah, spitting and getting ogled by old pervy actors are possible side effects of sitting up close. Nothing a poncho and some mace can't fix ;)

Sorry, I should have addressed my question to southernsam.

Hi have had a quick look on Priscilla London website and it would seem that Don Gallagher is still in the show as Bernadette, he is a very talented actor - your daughter is lucky to know him.

I see Priscilla has opened on Broadway, anyone been yet?

I LOVE sitting as far up front as I can!!! I have been stuck way up in 2nd balconies before, and I hate it! I feel so disconnected when I can't see the actors' faces, and it is hard to pay attention to the show.

So, what is your secret to getting good seats?

I try to be the first online when tickets go onsale through Ticketmaster. Or, if I'm lucky, I will occasionally get pre-sale codes, but I can't figure out how they decide who gets them.

Speaking of being close up, has anyone gotten blood-splattered from "Sweeney Todd"?

Years ago, my DH went to NYC and decided to go see "Oh Calcutta!" (I did not go with him on that trip.) You can probably guess where this is going - yup, he got FRONT ROW seats, and YES, there are times when you see WAY more that you want to see . . . :scared1:

The few times we've had good seats were when we've won the Broadway lottery. There are only a few shows at any one time that have them, and it's a crapshoot. My daughter and I have actually had pretty good luck with them, though. Every one we've tried for, we've won. We want to try Wicked, but there is always a crowd, but a few weeks ago I heard a radio ad for the show, so maybe the crowds are thinning and it's time to give it a whirl. If you are ever in the NYC area, check out Playbill online for a list of lottery (and rush) shows.

I loved Wicked! saw it in London, great show! In fact it is the only show that I have bought a souvenir from, a mug, that was because I am also a fan of the TV show "Ugly Betty" and Bettys boyfriend took her to see the show and bought her a mug, it was on her desk in most episodes.

Hope you get to see the show soon.

I just bought tickets to see Wonderland- we don't go until April though. I like going when the weather is a bit warmer and we can walk around the city rather than jumping in cab to cab!

BTW---I got a ad in the mail yesterday-
March21-16 tickets are 40.00-65.00
April 19-May 8th 40.00-69.00
Using the code: Alice
So you can see it for a really great price!!

I am so glad you enjoyed Priscilla, it is such a feel good show, the costumes are stunning, the songs are great and yes you do know all the words!!

This may be off topic, but it's being reported that they have signed Tom Cruise to star in the film version of Rock of Ages, as Stacee Jaxx no less. Does anyone else find this just awful??????????? I don't agree with any of the supposed cast, I think they will ruin it.
