The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Doesn't seem to be hurting them at all. Heard on TV it was the highest grossing Broadway show last week and is always in the top 5. I guess what they say is true: bad publicity is better than no publicity. (Just ask Charlie Sheen ;)).

But...it's starting to show up on the TKTS booth and the advance sales are fairly weak. The reviews hurt and interest is beginning to die down. There's only so long people are going to show up just to see how bad it is.

With it's current budget, it needs to play 12 years sold out to make a profit. And that just ain't gonna happen.

My favorite show of all time, I saw it 15 times. I just called DH and told him where we will be for Easter this year :sad1: :sad1:

I've seen it 3 times, it's amazing. I just texted my mom about it and we're going to go back one more time. She hasn't seen Billie Joe yet!

Now I really hate Spiderman. That overbloated nonsense gets to stick around and a good show has to close! :sad2:

We will go back at least one more time, I've seen Billie about 8 times - he is amazing.

I knew he would be back - when Davey Havok said "Billie Joe asked me to fill in for him" - I said to DH - he didn't say "take over", he said "fill in" - that means BJ will be back - I was right!!

It was the most amazing year of my life! :cloud9::cloud9:

Billie Joe loves that show so much, I knew he'd come back anytime they needed him. :thumbsup2

I was obsessed with the original album when it first came out, and the show was beyond anything I could have pictured it being. Just amazing. And it just got better every time I saw it. Best musical I've seen on Broadway in a long, long time.

Looking forward to seeing it at least one more time before it closes.

It's not closing soon is it? That would be a heartbreaker.....

I'm going in July for a week and am compiling a list of shows to see while I'm there. This is one of them- and I'd hate to get there after closing..:(

American Idiot? It's closing April 24th. :sad1:

That figures.....
There's only so many closing shows I can see- we're doing the last performance of DRIVING MISS DAISY next month.

DARN!!!:sad2:

I'm going to the first preview of Sister Act in a few weeks! I'm excited to see my friend in the ensemble!

I'll be back for American Idiot. Saw it twice and I'm heartbroken that it's closing. How I wished it would have found it's audience.

I think, unfortunately, most of it's audience just could not afford the ticket prices. :sad1:

And they were reasonably priced compared to other shows. Yes, it's a big expense, and I really feel in a better economy maybe this show would have had a chance. Here's hoping their tour does better and helps them recoup some of their losses.

AllisonK - The Marvelous Wonderettes are coming to Pittsburgh from April through October. I'm so excited to finally see the show! I had never heard about it before this thread. I was supposed to see it a few years ago in NYC, but our plane was late getting in and we missed it. :sad2: I love the soundtrack!

OK, just found out American Idiot will be touring here next year. How is it for a 16 year old?

I wonder if this means some of the Broadway cast will go on the road with the touring company? That would be neat!

Took my DD15 and she loved it (and I loved it too). They use the "f" word frequently, show drug use, 1 scene of simulated sex, out of wedlock pregnancy, but if you're okay with that, you're good to go.

A few members of the cast have already left to do other projects and there is an open audition in a few cities, so I'm not too sure about them becoming part of the touring company. Either way, don't let the opportunity pass you by -- see this show if it's near you. :thumbsup2

Ah it is one of my FAVORITE shows! It is SO adorable! I saw it 9 times when it was still running! It was just so much fun and it was two hours where you could just forget about what was going on and have a good time!
