The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I agree, loved Mary Poppins. It is my favorite musical!

The ones I would say good riddance to are Dreamgirls and Wicked.

Has anyone seen Jessica Chastain in The Heiress? I have walked by the theatre a couple times and didn't know who she was, until I saw Zero Dark Thirty, which I loved. :thumbsup2 Then I realized who she is. Is The Heiress, the same as the old Olivia de Havilland film? I know there was also an old play based on the same as the movie. I don't think I'd be that interested in seeing the show if it is. But, I'd like to know how Jessica Chastain is in it.

I'm seeing it today. I'll report back. :) It's an old play based on a Henry James novel. The film was adapted from the play (playwriter became screenwriter.)

Just got an email that said that the (New York) City Center is doing a short run of Fiorello! You don't see revivals of that show much, maybe because the material is dated? Anyway, it holds a place in my heart because my synagogue did it when I was a kid and my dad, whom we lost eight years ago, played Fiorello. He couldn't sing a lick, but he looked like Tom Bosley who originated the role on Broadway. We always made fun of how he basically talked the tunes LaGuardia and Unfair. I'll have to go see it for the nostalgia.

I have been looking at Fiorello for a month or so but I can never find out who is in the cast, ANy idea?

FIORELLO! Will star Danny Rutigliano, Kate Baldwin, Jeremy Bobb, Ray DeMattis, Erin Dilly, Jenn Gambatese, Adam Heller, Shuler Hensley, Richard Ruiz, Andrew Samonsky, Emily Skinner and Cheryl Stern.

I am very excited about Baldwin, Skinner (!!!) and Dilly ( I fell in love with her after seeing A CHRISTMAS STORY) and Andrew Samonsky (I've had a thing for him ever since he did ON THE RECORD).

Saw the national tour on friday in Seattle. Loved it!!!! Bold, brassy, colourful and crazy! :rotfl2:I was delighted to see so much dancing too. I did not expect that! Cast was great... especially Elders Price and McKinley and Neutragena (which makes sense if you have seen the show...lol!) Anyone else out there enjoy B of M?

I just read a few posts, so sorry if already discussed.

Any place to get summer discount tickets? thanks!

I was just coming on to ask about Jekyll and Hyde. I have tickets for this weekend, and I haven't been very excited about seeing it. I'm still trying to find a babysitter for my DD12 because I've heard it's a bit too much for preteens.

I'm finally getting to see Book of Mormon on Saturday. I tried the lottery 4 times when I lived in PA and lost every time. Now I live in New Mexico an have to fly home to see it, but I am so excited.

(And even better news is that Matt Doyle is playing elder price =D)

I saw Jekyll and Hyde and didn't love it or hate it. It was ok. Some parts were cool, I think... but it wasn't very memorable to me.

We are seeing it next Saturday, and can't wait!

We thought Avenue Q was hilarious, and DH and DS love South Park, so they are really looking forward to this. Plus, we are not easily offended!

Tickets have been on sale here for a while, but I have not gotten them. I'm a bit on the fence about this show - I haven't heard a lot of reviews.

Has anyone seen Million Dollar Quartet?
DH is a huge rock and roll oldies fan, and DD actually read about this famous night in her popular music class last year.

It is about the night Elvis Pressley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis got together at Sun Record Studios in Memphis.

I actually saw some one about her age or just a bit older. My niece would have enjoyed it and she's 11, but each kid is different. This was my second time seeing the show, I saw it last fall in Charlotte too.

Jeckyl and Hyde has changed a lot since the concept album and each time it has been on Broadway. We saw the tour last week and it was ok, but Constantine did not have a powerful voice and he couldn't sing the song Confrontation in both voices, they had to record the Hyde portion and show it on the screen. We didn't really care for it, although the other actors were good and the costumes were excellent.
