The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I saw Tuck Everlasting last night. I really enjoyed the ballet sequence and most of the cast. The score was fairly awful and the show dragged. I had a nice night out, but certainly wouldn't recommend it as a must-see, unless you have very young children.

We are season ticket holders for the Broadway series at the Paramount Theater here in Seattle. We received an email earlier this month announcing that Hamilton will be part of the 2017-18 season.
I know... Got the email too!!! There was great cheering in the kitchen between my daughter and I. We love the Paramount! Because we live up north in the Okanagan Valley, BC we don't have season subscriptions (can't always get there in our busy lives) but go as often as possible. Have seen many many shows there over the years (as well as the 5th Avenue) and love this up coming season so much.

Well. we finally got our ducks in a row and we're all set up for our 50th anniversary trip! I'm leaving Florida on May 25 and meeting up with DH in Washington. We're taking the train up to NY on the morning of the 27th, doing a little sightseeing that afternoon and the next morning, seeing the matinee performance of Bright Star on the 28th (our actual anniversary), having our celebratory dinner that night, and sightseeing again on the 29th. We'll take the train back to Washington on May 30. We have friends in North Carolina who were married the same day (and same hour!) as we were, so we're going to drive to NC on June 4 to surprise them at church on the morning of the 5th. I've coordinated with our friend's sister to be sure that the friends will be in town, and they will. We haven't seen them for about five years, so I hope we don't surprise them speechless - he's the preacher at this church and he has a sermon to deliver!

We're very excited about seeing Bright Star! DD#2 sent me a link to buy discounted tickets for six different shows, one of which was Bright Star, and we were able to get third row orchestra inside aisle seats for $98 each - they go for $145 at the box office. I know, no one pays box office prices, but I don't have the energy to track down the least expensive tickets. We thought $98 was very reasonable. It's going to be a great weekend, and we're very excited!

Ha, I detested Cats. And it was a national touring production I saw. I was so glad we only paid $25, because you could not pay me to sit through that again.

We just saw Bright Star this weekend and I really liked the show. My mom gave me tickets and I didn't know what the show was about. I actually thought it was going to be something completely different than it was. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Amen! It's pretty much the only musical (well perhaps other than Mame, Hello Dolly and State Fair lol) that I cannot abide!

Just got out of School of Rock and I absolutely loved it! The kids are incredibly talented and Alex Brightman is giving one of the most passionate and energetic performances that I've seen in a long time! If he is not nominated for a Tony Award I will be shocked.

Seeing Waitress tomorrow and can't wait to see what's been changed since it played in Cambridge this past summer!

Seeing this at the Saturday matinee. I'm quite looking forward to it.

I'll be interested to hear how you enjoy Waitress! I'm seeing that in May. I'm also taking my daughter and a friend to see School of Rock over Labor Day weekend, so I'm glad to hear the good report on that as well. :)

Wow, I love those three but dislike Cats, too.
I dunno.... I was in productions of Mame and Hello Dolly and they weren't great experiences. Maybe that's where my distaste comes from lol. Maybe I should watch State Fair again and give it another shot. It's been years.

I LOVE Hello Dolly!

I'd love to see Dolly with Bette Midler next year. And the Streisand film is a favorite. I just adore all three of the scores (Dolly, Mame & State Fair).

Saw Tovah Feldman as Dolly. She played it like a combo of an Irish lass & Yenta. Very bizarre. lol
I love the score of State Fair. It's a bit corny, but sweet. With the thousands of shows I've seen, I've never seen Mame!
As for CATS, the only reason I lasted was my niece was Grizabella!

Well, she's actually Dolly Gallagher Levi so I always assumed she was an Irish girl married to a Jew (Ephraim Levi). But most actresses do seem to play her as a stereotypical Jewish yenta, imo.

Mame doesn't seem to be revived as often as other golden age musicals and the movie is considered a bust (sorry, Lucy) by most; although it has its fans. But in 1966 it was the hottest ticket in town! I adore the Angela Lansbury OC recording. Mame is the one of the few shows that I only think has been recorded once (except for the movie soundtrack). I'd love to see an Encores! recording of the complete score.
