The Bouncy Gang meet Franken-Post - **Finding Nemo AND Gospel Sunday WHAT?**

So ... have you ever had one of "those" experiences at Disney? You know what I mean? The one's where someone does something so outlandishly rude that you teeter between maniacal laughter at the absurdity of it:rotfl2:, fuming anger over it's sheer rudeness:headache:, or dumbstruck horror (because, who knows what'll happen next:scared1:).

So goes our encounter on Day 1 of our last Disney adventure.
The Park: EPCOT
The Event: "Illuminations"
The Victims: Throngs of hopeful onlookers

It went down like this, we had just grabbed a few churros from Mexico and made our way around the corner to grab a seat awaiting the nightly show. Gavin, Ethan, Maddie, and I were happy to discover a spot where we were only one row deep and about 10 smaller kids were in the front row. We had a little while to wait, so everyone was sitting right on the blacktop. The kind gentleman (looked like a proud grandpa with about 7 of his grandkids) at the fence told my kids they could join his group when the show began (SWEEET :thumbsup2)

As we neared showtime (lights get dimmed, drumroll please), the throngs around us had grown to fill the entire walkway ... and all had followed suit and sat down.

Then IT happened!! A group (5 or 6) walked OVER the seated guests ... stepping through the crowd as though we weren't there.

Tempers flared ... voices boomed ... no response from the group. They jockeyed their way RIGHT TO the fence and even cast aside some of the children with the kind gentleman ... UGHHHHH :confused:

I am still in disbelief now ... nearly two years later. How can anyone behave like this???

In the end, the CM's at Disney proved their GREATEST training is likely in the arena of conflict management. They stepped in and calmed down the crowd ... two very astute looking CM's arrived and spoke with several parents. Before long, a group of us (about 8 parents) had formed an "arc" around the group of kids (about 12 of them) so they could see the show ... as soon as things were underway and smiles broke out on their faces, all was well!!

It's not like me to write a post that sounds "complaintive" or negative. For me, Disney IS magic and please know that the way this whole scene was handled was, indeed, magical.

So that was the end to our first night on Day 1 of the Hower's 2010 trip. Don't miss my next post where I reveal our Day 1 plans for 2012!!

When we last met up with the Hower clan, they were on their 2010 sojourn to the Land of the Mouse ... for those who didn't follow along in that PTR, we have a sort of tradition (ok, don't we ALL?) when we go to Disney.

I realize the "Epcot" post actually got away from me a little bit (I think I've needed to vent that for nearly two years :confused3) and thus I forgot about one VERY important "starting line" event for the Howers.

On the last trip, we tossed around the thought of trying "something new, something different" (ok, so I admit it was MY idea to change things up :rolleyes1) but alas, our tradition won out (and yes, in the end I'm REALLY glad it did) and we visited the Cape May Buffet on the very first evening of our arrival

IMG_0986.jpg

Grandma looks like she might prefer relaxing over eating at this point

IMG_0988.jpg

Hmmm, perhaps tired AND hungry?

Moving from barbequed ribs to creamy hot New England style clam chowder, dodging the crowds to land some crab legs and steamed clams ... the Cape May Buffet quickly reminded us why we LOVE to visit on night number 1 :cool1: It is ALWAYS a treat and our group sits together and talks excitedly about how all the plans in the upcoming days will unfold!!

So it is for 2012 ... yes, once again somebody :rolleyes1 had the audacity to suggest a new landing spot (yes, can't help it, it's the Dis junkie in me ... I was thinking maybe Chef Mickey's???) ... but in the end I know we would just sit there and look at our plates and pine for Cape May ... I'm not even sure a tableside visit from Mickey would make us smile:sad1:.

We'll be travelling by planes, trains, and automobiles (no exaggeration ... I plan to fly down with my crew ... Shawn plans to drive ... and Mom & Dad are jumping on the auto-train) ... but our plans have us converging late morning at POFQ ... leaping in the pool to refresh ... and then hitting an early ADR at our "traditional" digs!!

Cape May Buffet ... WAY!!!!!

Joining in !:cool1:

I love that you have a large crew. Usually it's just me and my twins (and whomever I can drag along for back-up). I get a lot of "hey, maybe our family could join you for a trip next year" and I never hear from them again. :confused3

Looking forward to reading more ! :woohoo:

Hi Michelle ... thanks for commenting and SO glad you're joining in!! Exciting that you're a mom of multiples ... we're a unique breed:woohoo:!!

I know when we go to Disney, it's always a "large crew" because my brother and family ... and mom & dad always do the trip. But ... I know "in between Diz trips" I've often heard the same thing you have (i.e. - "keep us in mind, we'd love to go along sometime") ... but it never really materializes.

Looking forward to having you reading along and commenting ... and somewhere along the way, I'll throw in a fun little game (or two).

My sister (well, one of my sisters) and her family went to Cape May last year and loved it! It was her favorite restaurant of the trip. We've yet to try it, but there are so many restaurants on the wish list!

I know what you mean Glenn ... I have that "laundry list" of restaurants I'd like to either try (for the first time) or return to: Jiko, Boma (for dinner, we've done the breakfast buffet), Sanaa, the Wave, Yachtsman, Flying Fish (been there, loved it, want to return), Kouzzina, via Napoli, etc etc.

If your family enjoys seafood and the type of bustling atmosphere where you can eat at your pace and enjoy lots of conversation in between, I bet Cape May would be a "can't miss".:grouphug:

Just a quick PTR Update to officially announce that our flights are unofficially booked :confused3

Being part of a travel agency type of family, my sweet cousin (who's a certified "Disney Travel Specialist") has put our flights on hold for us pending my payment this Friday.

So even though we're driving a bit to get to the airport :car: we'll continue the family tradition of staying overnight before an early morning departure. It seems the costs have gone UP UP AWAY at Dulles airport, but they've come DOWN DOWN DOWN at Reagan ... so DCA it is!!

Hmmm ... did someone say we should stop in for a quick spell at National Harbor????

:yay: Ooooooo, oooooo, oooo -- that was me, yes sireeee!! You know ya can't tease a girl with comin' THAT close to the Peep Store and not makin' it happen!! :woohoo: So let's see ... that'll be 2 pounds of juicy Mike & Ike's for me, Gavin'll want a pound of the Hot Tamales, we'll add a 6 pack of dark chocolate dipped Peeps for Ethan, and Miss Maddie'll have the Peepsters please ... now who am I forgetting ... Oh, wait--did you want somethin' yummy to snack on for our Dis flight down Babe??! ;)

Oh JJ ... I love your enthusiasm ... and though I DO promise that trip to NHBR this summer, alas it won't be a part of our Disney excursion  (but then again, you know this by now) ... for anyone else checking in, the next post reveals all!! :thumbsup2

When we last connected, our flights had been booked and we had settled on an extra-long commute southward to the Ronald Reagan Int'l Airport. It was shaping up to be a whirlwind of a trip as we would end up leaving Mid-Day Friday Oct 19th, arrive at dinner time in the Nation's Capitol (hmmm, traffic anyone :confused3), and grab an overnight at the Springhill Suites in Alexandria (including, likely, a quick jaunt over to National Harbor to visit the "Peeps" store) next day, an EARLY morning shuttle to the Metro ... disembarking at the Airport ... shuttle to Terminal A ... you get the picture :scared1:

I had totally convinced myself that our gang of travelling "pros" could accomplish it ... but truth be told, even though it was STILL saving me a bunch of bucks from other Airport options, I was a little nervous :sad2:

Then came the short a.m. news Blurb that changed the course of our trip popcorn:: ...

TO THE RESCUE comes "Frontier" airlines :cool1:

Up until earlier this year, Harrisburg Airport in PA had an agreement with AirTran ... this provided non-stop flights from that airport (just a stones-throw away from our home) to Orlando ... we were saddened when they pulled the plug on this offer as of August ... but SWOOOPPPP in comes Frontier to offer the SAME non-stop deal (and with a rate that is right around the same amount as those flights out of Reagan :worship:)

Now the next quandary came about as we realized that the Frontier flights out of Harrisburg were only happening on Tue, Thur, Fri & Sun :guilty: ... while we had plans to arrive on Sat and depart on Sat ... UGH!!!!

Not to fear, once again FRONTIER comes through ... this time offering Saturday flights out of Lehigh Valley Airport (just a little further than Harrisburg)

So ... in the end ... here's where we stand, along with an important question for my DIS friends:

Given the savings of a hotel room, the gas expense to and from Reagan, the extra meals incurred, and the METRO fare ... we're saving about $200 flying out of Lehigh Valley!!

Now ... we still have a choice ... as it stands, we're departing at 8:30am on Sat 10/27 from Orlando ... this will take us into Lehigh Valley.

ORRRRRRRRR

We stay an extra day in Disney ... pay for an extra night ... and leave at 9am on Sunday 10/28 ... this will take us into the CLOSER airport at Harrisburg, but will basically eliminate the "savings" mentioned above ... thoughts?:rolleyes1

Good day my DIS friends. Well, if you catch-up on my PTR, you'll find that at last post, we had switched around our flight details based on the newly offered opportunities out of local airports. That was GOOD!!

Now, in a sudden turn of events, Disney has announced it's Fall "Free Dining" packages ... for August something through Sept 29th :scared1: ... while we're planning to go Oct 20th

So the mad scramble has begun ... all of us can make the switch - except my Brother who's schedule doesn't look like it will allow :headache:

Mom is sick over this because she knows how much $$$$$ this would save her and dad ... so she's nearly resigned to hoping that Disney will come through and extend the dining ... I think it'll take some serious Magic :wizard: but admit I'm worried !!

What are your thoughts??? :confused3:confused3

I can relate .. totally ! We have plans for the second week of December .. but now I'm rethinking the whole thing and just may do the second week of September instead. :scared1: I just don't know !!

Free dining is just SO hard to pass up !!

Thanks for weighing in Michelle ... I'm glad we're not the only one's with this dilemma ... though also sorry to hear you're forced into this conundrum as well :sad2:

If I hear ANY rumblings anywhere about an extension to the offer, I'll make sure I let you know!!

Ooo boy, that's a tough one. On the one hand, if you've invited your brother along you should stick with the deal. On the other, bucks are bucks, and those are a lot of bucks to save. Maybe double-check with your brother that there's absolutely no way he could change?

Thanks Glenn ... that's pretty much where we're at right now ... it's sort of been a "pins n needles" couple of days for my mom because my brother is attempting to contact two separate individuals that work with him and have taken vaca in the two potential weeks for the switch. I have to give it to him though (my brother that is), he's even gone so far as to say he would "give away" a couple of his vacation days to them to be used in the future if willing to switch :confused3

I'm back from a long DIS hiatus to so I can relate!

I was so sad about AirTran and happy about Frontier but not about the days they picked for travel. I already wrote them a FB message about Saturday being the most popular travel day. I hope they add more days when they realize how popular the flight is. I didn't think about the Lehigh Valley option. Is that in Allentown? I would vote for more Disney time and fly back into Harrisburg!

As for free dining, they have extended it into parts of the fall and even November and December so I would not change your plans yet. I think on Mousesavers they have a list of when discounts are traditionally announced so maybe check that to see if waiting for an announcement is for October is feasible.

We love Cape May Cafe too! But we do try to pick at least one new restaurant every trip.

HEY Jen!!!! Great to see you and thanks for replying!!
Agreed on the weirdness of travel in Harrisburg for Frontier ... Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sun ... just don't make no sense :confused3 Lehigh Airport is near Allentown ... we live in Lebanon so it's about an hour trip for us vs about 40 minutes to Harrisburg. I am still pushing to get more Disney time and think I nearly have enough arms twisted to fly back in on a Sunday to Harrisburg

As for that "new restaurant" ... yep, we're the same ... last time it was Biergarten which will now be a regular for us. This time it will be either Via Napoli or (if open) Be Our Guest.

Lastly, thank you SO much for the tip on Mousesavers and the "later" announcement for some of the Fall extensions. That's put my mind at ease for whatever the results of my brother's inquiries prove to be.

Hello DisFriends. For anyone checking in, if you'd read till now about our up and down PTR planning, you'll know that the last week or so has been a trying one.

To recap, we discovered the announced "Free Dining" was not going to extend into our vaca in mid-Oct.

We scrambled to change the dates to mid-Sept ... but it hinged on my brother's ability to get off new dates from work ... whew

In the end, the "switch" couldn't happen :guilty: ... BUT ... thanks to an alert message from Jenb :worship: we discovered that the current pattern of Disney announcing limited free dining through Sept at this time of year is consistent ... and that the past 3 years the "extension" into October hasn't occurred until July or August. So we'll hope for that, but regardless we're still happy to finally be (FINALLY) settled on definite dates.

Now ... on another note ... in the meantime, the Frontier airlines prices flying into Lehigh on Saturday the 27th went up by about $38/ticket. So for my 5 tickets that meant we'd spend $200 more ... OR ... we could fly into Harrisburg (closer to home) on SUNDAY morning (know where this is going ) at the cheaper price. Uh HUHHHHH ... one more night in Disney it ISSSSSS!!!!!!!!

So now begins the countdown (YEP, 1 month from TODAY) for our ADR's ... and time to step up this PTR ... keep an eye out for our SCHEDULE of park days next!!

Yay, glad that you're sticking with the dates. Now, we just have to hope that Free Dining is extended...it probably will be.

And :dance3: for one more day!!!

The kids were (of course) super excited about the additional day (and yes, by "kids" I mean them, JJ, and ME) ... now our dilemma is deciding which resort to land at. Since POFQ won't accommodate all 5 of us in one room (up till that last night one of the kiddos is staying in an extra room with some of his cousins). So far, looking at PO Riverside in Alligator Bayou ... but open to suggestions ????
