It's like a book club, only it's online and you don't have to read a specific book! Ever wanted to talk books? Talk here! With me! And other people! :smooth: So let's start some discussions! I'm currently reading Agatha Christi's Murder On the Orient Express and The Dante Club by someone else..!:teeth: Anyone ever read these books?

:jester:

bump

Gotta be some good book lovers on the DIS!

:bounce:

Where is the site...I would like to check it out.

Thanks,

Holycow

Oops..did I make it sound like there was a site out there? I meant right here, to talk books!:D On this thread!

I'm reading a book I picked up on the bargain rack at B&N. It's about this Whipple Corporation - it's a mystery/fiction thing. Anyway, there is Whipple World, their planned community called Serenity, and a CEO that is cutting wherever he can to up the profits. It's ... amusing. :)

anyone got a good sudgestion for a 16 year old to read? i like horses and disney and biographies and diaries and letters.. stuff like that.. i just read enter whining by fran drescher.. it rocked!

Read Angela's Ashes...it's about a poor family living in Ireland during the early 19th century. It's rather sad, but it's very touching. It's by Frank McCourt.

I hope they have that at our library.. sounds interest :teeth:

I read "Murder on the Orient Express" when I was in high school. I was on an Agatha Christie kick for a while.

I am currently reading "Indiana, Indiana" by Laird Hunt. Weird, mysterious, intriguing, once you get the hang of his stream-of-consciousness writing style.

Before that, I read "Lucky: A Memoir" by Alice Sebold. I had read the more well-known "The Lovely Bones" by the same author earlier this summer, but I thought "Lucky" was a more interesting read. A graphic, searing account of her own rape when she was a freshman in college, and its aftermath.

Also read "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. Touching and sentimental, if somewhat sugary sweet.

Read two books my sister lent to me last year -- "The Nanny Diaries" and "I Don't Know How She Does It". Similar in that they humorously touch on childcare and all its pain, pleasure, guilt, and heartbreak.

Earlier read "Me Talk Pretty Someday" by David Sedaris. He has another book out, "Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim". His observations on the absurdities of modern life are hilarious.

I started "The Virgin Suicides" after I heard a review of a newer book by the same author, Jeffrey Eugenides, but never finished it, and had to return it to the library.

On my list to read: "The Bonesetter's Daughter" by Amy Tan (author of "The Joy Luck Club" - it's on my nightstand right now!
"Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown
"A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer
"The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
"The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd
"Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides
"Eats Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss
and the above mentioned "Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim" and "The Virgin Suicides"

I like to read -- can you tell?

;) ;)

Lemme give you a warning however...it was none too cheery! Very sad but extremely inspirational ::yes::

Ohhh I heard the Virgin Suicides, Angels & Demons, and The Secret Life of Bees were all good books to read. Did you read any of Dan Brown's other books?

I read Angels and Demons, The DaVinci Code and Deception Point all by Dan Brown. I thought Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code were excellent! Deception Point was not as good as the other too, but still good.

Right now I'm reading The Last Juror by John Grisham. I've loved all his books so far.

I tried to start a DIS book club, but it flopped partway through the first book. We were reading Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books. It was a GREAT read, but I think some people just lost interest. I would love to do book chats here! For now I am doing some simple kid literature since the school year just started and I'm looking for some good read alouds, but I have three shelves full of books that I've not even read, and they're driving me nuts! Can't wait for my plane ride to WDW in December, I'm guaranteed to have reading time then!

Ashley:wave2:

P.S. If anybody wants to be a book buddy, or if this turns into a book club, let me knwo what you're reading. I would love to share something!

I'm reading Deception Point by Dan Brown. Its not religion based, but more based on intrigue, and conspiracy. Its ok, but hard to get into.

I've just finished Pearl Diver, that was a fantastic book.

I also --read

Skinny Dip --funny and mindless
My Sisters Keeper-- tear jerk
Perfect Match great ending
Plain Truth -- great story
The Rule of Four-- couldn't really get into
So you wanna be a Rock n Roll Star-- Semisonic (remember them) drummer -- a MIT Graduate! wrote it

Steve Jobs biography
and a ton more

Right now I am reading Little Children by Tom Perotta.
Just finished Multiple Choice by Claire Cook-I liked/am liking both of these a lot!
Up next is:
Must Love Dogs;Claire Cook
The Devil Wears Prada; Lauren Weisberger<?>
I Know This Much Is True; Wally Lamb

I've never read any of the books mentioned on this thread so far. But I have heard of The secret Life of Bees, The DaVinci Code, and Deception Point.

I've read some good books like The Giver, The Westing Game, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, and My Brother Sam is Dead.

I've been reading a good series of books by Lemony Snicket. Series of Unfortunate Events There are about maybe 10 books in the series so far. I've read 8 out of the nine so far. They all have different titles of course. Can't remember them at the moment though.

Ugh, I tried to get into those Lemony Snicket series but couldn't. It just wasn't my thing. In English class we're reading The Red Badge of Courage..ugh! That guy is on an overload of using descriptions! It's so dry too..Kev, I read the Westing Game in 6th Grade, a very fun and interesting book.

We're supposed to be reading Great Expectations next up..that will be alot of fun

I read the Westing Game on my own too in 6th grade. I'm supposed to read for school this year though along with like 5 other books.:crazy:

The Giver is an AWESOME book, have you read Gathering Blue and the other new companion to it? I also enjoyed The Westing Game in sixth grade...must be the "in" thing! :)

I like reading all these!

I LOVE Great Expectations!!! It is one of my all time favorite books! We read it in high school and I fell in love with it! It is such an incredible story and so well written. I have read it a couple of times since then. I even talked dh into reading it (he was never much of a reader, but has turned into one now) and he really enjoyed it too. It is something to look forward to!

I've read all of Dan Brown's books and really enjoyed them. I didn't like the premise of DaVinci Code and actually thought it was one of his least interesting, but he definately writes page turners. Deception Point was actually probably my favorite. He also has one more called Digital Fortress that is good but a bit predictable.

Also have read all of John Grishams and love them all. My favorite of his is The Testament.

I read Life of Pi and was not horribly impressed. I heard so much good stuff about it, but it didn't thrill me.

I just finished reading East of Eden and really enjoyed it. I'm going through my books and trying to hit the ones I haven't read for some reason. I tried East a few years ago and couldn't get into it, but this time I loved it.

I also just read Janet Evanovich To the Nines. I love her books too! She is so laugh out loud funny and quick to read!

I can't wait to read the new Jasper Fforde. I will get it as soon as I can get to a bookstore. I signed up for the book club with Barnes and Noble University online led by the author! I am so excited!! He is one of the most clever and original authors I have read. I can't wait to see what he has to say in the book club!
