Howdy,
I have seen some brief things on different sites about the Boardwalk. How interesting is the Boardwalk for an afternoon visit before going to dinner and IllumiNations? How much time could we spend and what kind of entertainment is there?

Thanks in advance!
Anne

Here are a few things that I can think of (others might be able to respond with more . . )
DH and I enjoyed a stroll along the BW in the evening before or after dinner. They had characturists, photo booths, candy, some stores, ESPN club, etc. It was a nice place to go and relax and take in the lagoon and the sites there. There are also bikes that you can rent to ride around the boardwalk. We enjoyed spending about 1 hour there, and found it relaxing. DH especially enjoyed poking into ESPN to watch some sports. We don't have children (yet) so I'm not sure how long you might be able to entertain a family there. You could also walk around and check out the YC and BC if you're looking to kill some more time.

There is not much going on on the BW in terms of entertainment in the afternoons. It's nice to walk and to shop or eat, but if you're looking for entertainment, go in the evening.

The Boardwalk is a nice change of pace from anywhere else in DisneyWorld. We went in early evening last month and it was beautiful. Consider it a "night off" from the Disney life. There are no huge Mickey heads anywhere, etc. and it's not cartoonish - not that I don't love that!. There are some restaurants for nice romantic dinners, carnival-style games (I won a Nemo!), boutiques, and plenty of waterfront views. It's just nice to go there and relax and walk around. Later at night it tends to get more crowded so I would go in the early evening. Oh, and you can see the fireworks from Epcot there.

I am so looking forward to my upcoming trip split between BWI and CBR. A few years ago my DH and myself went to the boardwalk for the evening to walk around and to go to B&C for dinner. When we got there evening was just starting to fall...we took a boat to BC and while we were waiting for our table (about a 20 minute wait) it began to pour. We sat outside BC and just watched the rain, then went in to eat at B&C. Afterward, the rain subsided a bit and we walked back to the boat dock to go back across, it was early evening and when we got back across it started pouring again, we sat on the rocking chairs on that big porch at the BWI and just watched the rain as the lights started coming on all around the boardwalk...how totally beautiful it was and how relaxing and peaceful just sitting there and rocking...the rain actually mad eit even more special for some reason. Eventually the rain stopped and we were able to to go and walk around the BW. So...anyone who gets to the BW on their next trip...go sit on those rockers and just relax a few minutes....it really is that great.
