Wow, there are still people stuck on cruise ships! I don't know about those people who "refused" to fly home, though. There's a fear of flying, sure...but the fear of being stuck on a cruise ship with a bunch of sick people indefinitely supersedes that, IMHO!!

I don't know that they "refused" as much as they may not have been able to. There can be medical reasons why people can't fly.

I read the refused as likely to be a spouse or travel companion of someone that was ill.

The article says "The ship finally was allowed to depart Fremantle on Saturday with the eight remaining passengers, all of whom either couldn’t or wouldn’t fly." I didn't think about it being a companion of someone who couldn't fly but that makes sense.

By the time they drop off the majority of the crew, the remaining 8 passengers and 75 crew could probably go all day and not even see another person.

I don't know, I think I would feel safer being one of 8 on a 1,200 passenger cruise ship where I could socially distance myself, as opposed to a plane in a confined space.

Thanks for sharing an interesting story. That ship has a special place in my heart as I sailed it twice when it was the original Royal Princess. It was a great ship. I always thought it was cool that Princess Diana was the godmother and that the ship had the unique design of no inside cabins.
