The Biggest Gouge at Disneyworld

I forgot about the clothing. you can find a sweatshirt in the parks or DTD for $50.00. at times, the same one will be the outlets stores for $25.00 at the same exact time. we've literally left the Premium outlet store and returned identical clothing to DTD in as little as half an hour.

i didn't buy it, but last time we went my fiance's mother bought one of those fans that spray water and the thing was $20 i believe! i couldn't believe it! i was glad i brought my own from home that i got for $1

Same or worse at any sport stadium in the US. I think beer at FedEx Field or Raven's Field (whatever they call it these days) a 16oz beer is over $6 --maybe $8. Got 3 kids meal at MCI Center and it ran easily $20-something.

WDW must really love the people who fly down and they get on the ME since they most likely wont be heading outside the World and have little choice in the matter.

26 dollars for a pair of Keds-type sneakers for DD-- she left them at home! With the way her feet grow, she probably wore them for 3 months. They did have Mickey on them, but next time I will brave I-Drive before paying that again!

On my last trip for New Years, my fiance and I were getting ready to watch the MK fireworks from the Poly's beach. I was cold so we went in to one of the shops. The zip up sweatshirt I picked out was $50. I still bought it though because I wear those types of sweaters a lot. Plus I forgot about the price about 15 minutes later when my fiance proposed!

the lack of refillable mugs in the parks. (besides AK) at Universal Studios, Seaworld, Busch Gardens... I can take a 5 year old mug into the parks and get a fountain refill for around a dollar. ice water is free. you can even have them refilled with Icee's. I can take a Busch Gardens mug to Universal and they will honor it. Animal Kingdom has the mug program, why don't the other 3 parks?

This is do to county restrictions from what I was told. They use to have them at MK if I remember correctly awhile ago. The next time we went back they didnt have any and we ask a CM and he said the county changed the health ordinances. Disney is actually in 2 different counties from what I was told so therefore parts of Disney can have them and other parts cant. According to the CM that we asked.

Dang Health Department.

This sounds right to me, just as at some buffets around the country you must get a clean plate every trip through. This is very strictly enforced in some areas.

This does not sound right to me. The resorts are spread all over and surround those parks and yet each resort has a refillable mug. Parks are next to and do not? :scratchin

When I did the college program they were talking in Traditions (the initial training) about things that CMs are allowed to do for guests without management consenting. So if someone drops a box of popcorn or a drink, you can have it replaced without a manager signing off because Disney pays so little that it doesn't really effect the budget but makes a HUGE difference in guest satisfaction. The examples we were given were that the deal that Disney has with Coke, they pay 5 cents for each bottle of pop/water. Each box of popcorn costs 2 cents. Those ponchos? Yeah, 5 cents each.

In a sense everything you buy is a gouge at Disney. But we are so entranced with the Magic that we are willing to pay it. It is supply and demand at its finest and the demand is obviously high. Nobody makes us do these things, we want too!

all of WDW is in orange county, as is sea world, and universal. it sounds like that CM was given some bad info.

Forty-something dollars for an 8x10 photo in the Star Wars gift shop. It took them about two minutes to put my children's faces on the Star Wars characters in the pic. It is an awesome souvie, though!

These prices are no different then ANY other form of entertainment (movies, sports or other theam parks). You can take limited stuff in with you ,you are not forced to pay those high prices.

This is not true thats why room tax is different at different resorts.I'm not sure of the name of the other county but it's not Orange for the lower stuff ( AK, WWoS ) I think one resort is on the line but they allow them to follow the one county for the entire resort

Definitely the new princess meals at CRTs!! Disgusting!!

Sylvester McBean- I love that princess comic, it is a riot!!

I did and real quick WWoS is below the line into Osceola .Some of POP is also below the line .I also thought that AK was in Lake but have no personal knowledge of this .

If you follow the link, WDW at WikiPedia, you will see that you were given some bad information. In fact if you read the article it states that WDW is in fact in two counties, Orange and Osceola. Since Universal and Sea World both offer refillables cups, it safe to assume that the Orange county health department is not the one prohibiting WDW from using refillable cups.

I apologize for hijacking this thread but I just thought I should respond and justify my previous statement with some further facts.

A chunk of WDW is in Osceola County. In particular, the All-Star resorts are there, which is why the tax rate is higher. Osceola Parkway runs roughly along the county line.

The arcade that Space Mountain exits through- the games were $1.50 each!!! My son played Star Wars for all of 45 seconds before he was asking for more quarters! C'mon- even Chuck E Cheese is only one token (a quarter) each!
