The biggest dilemma I can't figure out...

For next years trip, I want to take Amtrak to the Kissimmee station. I need to figure out how to get a car rental from the station. We are going to spend a few days in other parts of Florida but I want to return the car before we start the WDW part of our vacation. I do however need to get onto Disney property after returning the car. I then need to rent a car again on the last day of our WDW vacation in order to spend some time at the parks before stopping at the airport and ending up back at the Amtrak station. If you didn't follow all of that, I guess I need a company that will pick me plus 2 kids up at the Kissimmee Amtrak station and then shuttle us back to Disney property after we drop the car off after a few days. I then need a way to get a rental car for one day that I can somehow get from Disney property and somehow return to the Amtrak station. If I haven't completely confused you, any help would be greatly appreciated. The other choices are to keep the rental car all week, even though we are going to be using Disney transportation, or use Amtrak autotrain, assuming my car does not head to the junkyard between now and then.

After checking Expedia, it looks like the Budget office at 5770 W. Irlo Bronson is closest to the Amtrak station in Kissimmee. You're probably best off taking a taxi between the train station and the rental car company. I would rent for the whole time you're in Florida - even while at WDW. After 4 days, you'll pay a weekly rate any way, and you'll have the car available in case you decide to drive to Downtown Disney or offsite. Too mush hassle in my opinion to pick-up, drop-off, pick-up, drop-off!

depending on whom you are renting from, you may be able to drop off and later pick up right on wdw property... national and alamo have locations at the dolphin and the car care center... and a few of the other agencies have locations near downtown disney...

i agree that cabbing it to the rental car agency is probably your best bet... i'm not familiar w/car rental companies picking up at train/bus/boat/etc stations, but i could be wrong (::gasp:: LOL)

also, my strongest suggestion would be to keep the car 'til AFTER you check in to your disney resort so you can use it to transport your luggage and not have to do any extra "schlepping" kwim?

Do you have to get the train at Kissimee? The Orlando station has a Hertz rent a car on site.

On a slightly off topic note to la79al..this year is our third trip from NJ to Kissimmee on AMtrak. The earllier you make your reservation, the cheaper the rate will be, especially if you are getting sleeper or roomettes. As the train occupancy increases,so does the price of the tickets....
