Of the two Haunted Mansions here in the U.S., which is better, Disneyland (Cali) or Magic Kingdom (Florida)? For what reasons?

Also, lets here some of the best secrets from each.

WDW.

And secrets hmmm....There's a huge sheet of glass over the whole ballroom scene. You don't notice it but it's reflecting an actual set up animatronic ballroom scene above you. There's some other technical babble involved, but point being. They're not projected images like so many believe.

I like the one in Florida better simply because the outside looks bigger, and more like a mansion. I know there are some differences inside as well, but honestly it seems like the same ride.

I like the one in DL a little bit more because I like the exterior better there, i.e. the house is interesting and the gravestones are whimsical, I think the exterior in WDW is a bit depressing instead of scary (although I know others will disagree!).

It actually looks like a haunted house from New Orleans like Walt intended it to be. I was quite shocked when I first saw the design that Walt saw and how realistic it is.

Sorry but DL wins on this one.

WDW, especially with all the new things in it.
BUT. i do love the nightmare before christmas overlay at christmas in DL

I voted equal. They are both wonderful in their own way, so for me to say one is better than the other would be kinda like asking a parent which one of their kids they loved more!

BUT, if push came to shove, gun to my head, tell me now or you're dead, my vote would have to go to Disneyland, because we do switch it out to "The Nightmare Before Christmas" every holiday season. And that's just plain awesome. :thumbsup2

I love both equally :thumbsup2 .

And Disneyland also has the new special effects that WDW has. They actually got them first :) .

But my family loves the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay.

This is true! When they redesigned the attic secne hubby and I were excited; not only because they'd done it, but because we just assumed that they had updated it at the World as well. And since we were going to WDW in a couple of months, it would be great to see their "take" on it as well. WRONG! It was still the same. We were so let down. That was the only time we could actually say that DL was better than WDW. Until then they'd always been "different but equal." We just went back a week or so ago, and were so glad to see that WDW had finally "caught up"!

well, what i meant was i've always liked WDW better than DL, and even moreso now that WDW has the effects that DL has. not that DL didn't have them.

I think I heard somewhere that the stretch room in disneyland is an elevator in which it is actually the floor that goes down, not the ceiling that goes up. I heard that the ceiling goes up only in the florida one cause you don't get lowered down in the wdw mansion.

Anyone know for sure?

This isn't entirely true. DL did get the new attic scene and the floating Leota first. But it doesn't have the 3D sound in the Stretching Room, nor does it have the new staircase scene. :)

You heard correctly. :thumbsup2

Before WDW's got refurbed it was hands down better at DLR. I still prefer DL's because I like the exterior better. It actually looks like a plantation house with some grounds and you go in the front. WDW's actually looks better from the river than from the part you walk in imo. And it seems like we're going in through the servant's entrance rather than the front door.

At DLR's the first section is walked which makes it creepier. But many people just rush to the buggies and totally miss it. And the elevator really goes down. This, and the walked section, are actually to get you under the berm and out to a show building where the ride itself is housed.

Interesting, I always thought the scene was below the buggy tracks and projected out into the room. I'll have to look again next time.

The special effects always blow me away-- it's even more impressive when you think of how old the attraction is.

Hands down...Disneyland! I was crushed when I went to WDW and found out that they didn't do the HMH switch, and the exterior in DL is just cooler.

And a secret, hmm... it's really haunted :scared1:

www.doombuggies.com that's where I got the information. :)

Never been to DL, but I vote for WDW anyway:cutie:
I would love to try the Nightmare before christmas thing, and I want to go to DL sometime in the future, but I'm not DYING to go. Other than disboards, I've only heard bad things about DL, and good about WDW :confused3

Everybody probably knows this, and I haven't read the whole thread, but there is a unique and hidden storyline to the mansion in WDW. PM me and I can tell you if you don't know, but I have to go for now.

I would have to vote for DL's HM.:thumbsup2

Not that WDW's HM isn't great, because it is. But for me, a few things give an edge to the one at DL, which have already been mentioned.:)
