I'm still a novice cruiser and was wondering what shoes are a definite must to bring? My 9 yr old will insist on bringing her crocks and I'm thinking tennis/walking shoes for the shore excursions. Is there a good sandal you would recommend? It would be great if we could get away with only 1-2 pairs of shoes for our vacation.:confused3

Oh my. I believe I can not answer this, as my family calls me Imelda Marcos. When in doubt, bring them all.

I just posted a similar question about water shoes. On our first cruise, I did not end up really needing my water shoes. However, we only went to CC because we did the 3 night. This time, we are doing a 7 night and taking some snorkeling excursions. I've been worried about not having water shoes.

I ended up buying some Keen sandals that are waterproof that will serve double duty. They are nice enough and comfortable enough to wear while we are walking around exploring the islands but will also double as my water shoes. They were kindof of pricey (around $85:scared1: ) and I did not buy them the first time I saw them. I went around to different shoes stores and kept getting told about how good they were. I ended up buying them at a local shoe store here where I live and am hoping they are as good as what everyone said. If you want to know their specific name, I'd be happy to get the box out and let you know. You can also order them online at www.keen.com. Hope this helps.

DD#4 has a bleeding disorder so she has swam in "shoes" her whole life. (Can't risk stumpted toes.) For the first 5 years we wore the water shoes the GAP sold that were velcro and made out of scuba material. Last year she had out grown them and I found a shoe at LLBean that did great. They can go anywhere and were @$20 for kids.(similar material)

For DH and I I got their "summer sneakers" and plan to get another pair. They are very light, waterproof, and cost $34.

I live in Birkenstocks - get a new pair every summer. (www.gobuyeurope.com) (discounted!, no tax, AND NO SHIPPING!!!)

DH, and 2 DDs have Crocs

The older DDs live in Flip Flops.
AND I GET A HALF DOZEN FROM OLD NAVY MYSELF. I brought 3 swim suits on board and 3 pairs of Old Navy FFs to match.

I wore my sneakers on the plane, took water shoes (better for hot sand than flip flops), dressier sandals (for dinner) and flip flops (for every other waking moment). Only wore my sneakers to work out. I am a flip flop kind of gal. Oh yeah--can't forget the one pair of dressy shoes.

For the 7 night cruise I packed 10 pairs of shoes and I wore them all except for the sneakers, I never made it to the gym. I had a few different colors/styles of flip flops for the day and I wore a different pair of shoes to dinner almost everynight. My sister also had 10 pairs with her and I think she wore most of them.

I don't own 10 pair of shoes! LOL!! Did you have a suitcase just for them?

I have a size 9 1/2 wide---shoes just aren't a luxury for me.

see my tag :lmao:

(3 pairs of flip flops, water shoes, 1 pair heels, 2 pair for other dinners, tennies = 10 pair)

I wear tennis shoes to travel and during most of the cruise. I pack one pair of sandals and one pair of water shoes.

Teva flip-flops (these get worn the most), 1 pair of black dress shoes for semi-formal/formal nights, a pair of waterproof Keen "Newport" sandals and usually one pair of "cruise casual" slip-ons that can be worn at dinner on less formal nights.

My DD usually brings her crocs and a pair of Teva flip-flops.

Both of my duaghters wear crocs on excurstions and they actually work quite well. I am a flip flop girl myself I hate for my feet to get hot. Crocs are FINE even on the sand for the beach. I am with the earlier post though and would usually bring them all if you have a question.

Ok... now I know what has to go in the extra suitcase!!! :rotfl:

I was thinking of bringing a pair of Keds with me for wandering around the ship - I like the rubber heels and I live in them for the summer...

Whatever you do, DON'T be like my DH! He decided to wear his dress clothes to travel in, so he wouldn't have to pack them, and then forgot to pack any other shoes! He ran around the sail away party barefoot all night, which was fine, but then we had to spend half our shore time in Nassau searching for a pair of sneakers for him, which is not as easy as it sounds!

I'm giving him his own packing checklist next time!

I took one pair of black strappy dress sandals which I wore to dinner, and other than that nothing but my Old Navy or my Mickey Mouse flip flops touched my feet!

I live in my Croc's Athena sandals (lightweight and easy to pack) and a pair of Earth Spirit sandals (adjustable buckle for my wide-width feet). I use a pair of low-heel strappy sandals for formal/semi-formal nights and I'm set!

I agree with the Keen sandal recommendation. :thumbsup2 We live on an island in the Pac NW and we spend a lot of time at the beach. It really is a great sandal for beaches, walking, etc. When we cruise in November, we (dh, me, 4 kids) will all be bringing our Keens.

Sorry, I can't help with the limiting the shoe packing either. Cruised with 3 pairs of Birks, flip flops, dressy shoes, sneakers and Crocs. My 2 dds had 4 or 5 pairs each. Only my son packed lightly - flip flops, sneakers and dress shoes. I would think those 3 pairs would be the minimum for anyone.

Lots of sandals. Walking and/or hiking sandals, water or beach sandals, dressy sandals. Ok, does everyone realize I have a sandal fetish? The only shoes I bring besides sandals are one pair of dress shoes for formal night and one pair of tennis shoes for workouts.
