I was waiting to place my order at the BoardWalk Pizza window and this guy comes up to the window and says to the CM, "I just wanted to let you know that your pizza was the best meal we have had at Disney". He was serious!

The way the guy said it, I could tell he was very disappointed and frustrated with his previous dining experiences at WDW.

Who knows where he had been eating.

I'll bet he didn't make any ADR's and ended up eating counter service all week.

Disney is the only vacation destination where you have to plan even a burger joint sit-down meal three months in advance though. Could you imagine doing that anywhere else? Disney have gone a bit OTT in that you literally cannot eat ANYWHERE without an ADR these days - unless you're a Disney nut or you have plenty of time to research your vacation, you're kind of screwed...

I should have asked him where he was staying. But I think you are probably right about counter service. We eat a lot of counter service meals and I know they get old real fast if you don't look around for the variety that can be found.

Try living here.

There's no such thing as walking in and getting seated same day anymore. If we want to eat at Disney, we have to have ADRs!

Kinda sucks.

haha, diznygirl, I am trying to feel your pain. ;)

I understand what you mean though and it is bad. I hate making ADRs so I don't often get where I want to eat when I'm there.

I would, however, like to try living there. ;)

I remember my first trip 15 years ago - walked right up to the podium at Cinderellas Castle without an ADR. Were seated within 10 minutes for lunch. Had a yummy chicken caesar salad that was prepared tableside.

I know when my SIL and BIL took my IL's for their first trip they only ate counter service and then left WDW for outside restaurants. When they got back home FIL said "we had to leave WDW just to get something other than a burger". I couldn't believe it. When the entire family went last year I scheduled some sit down restaurants. Not a ton since I knew they were on a budget. But we had some great meals and I think they say that you don't have to leave to get "something other than a burger".

Maybe I don't go at busy times or something. but I geenraslly never have a problem walking up to a restaurant and getting seated. Now, I may have to wait a bit, so if I want to make IllumiNations at 9PM, I don't walk up to the Rose & Crown at 815PM and expect that i am going to be seated, served and done by 9PM. I usually also don't go up expecting them to have a table for 7 on 5 minutes notice...usually it's DH & I or DH & I and another couple.

As far as the gentleman in the OP...I would assume that he did not plan to have a couple of special sit down meals and make ADRs, and perhaps he was there at a busy time and therefore ate a lot of counter service type food, which would get old after a while, I can imagine. So a pizza on the boardwalk may have been his best meal.

Ever think that he HAS eaten at all of the fancy restaurants at WDW and just has simple tastes? Maybe this was the best meal he had ever experienced at WDW. Different strokes... :confused3

We went with our best friends and their kids a few years ago. After several days they decided to go back to the hotel early and rest. Mom said she was having "tummy issues" and wanted to find something "else" for dinner out of the parks. She said they were sick of only eating burgers and chicken strips and pizza for every meal (we only did 2 TS the whole week because of budget). They were all really unhappy about their meals so far.

DH and my kids and I all went:eek: We had all eaten together at the same places and we had yet to eat one burger or chicken strip and I think we ate pizza once! Somehow it was our fault that they didn't look beyond the usual on the menu! We had chosen places with good varieties of food to please everyone and we were ordering sandwiches, salads, and other types of meals. In fact I don't think I ate a burger at all that week!

We still laugh about that. And that evening my family went to Sunshine Seasons for dinner. They ate at ASM, and probably had burgers, chicken strips or pizza!

I'll tell you of one of our very best meals we had in April and was very suprised, it was at the counter service place Yak and Yeti, in Animal Kingdom. It was honey chicken and rice, it came in a box and was enough to fed my dd and myself. It was so good, we went back with my dh and got it again the next day, it was just so good and a lot of it for the money. :thumbsup2

Yes, but it wasn't a character meal all day long then, either. I miss the old Akershus buffet meals, prior to a set menu and princesses. The characters have removed several venues from our personal dining choices.

I think the CS meals have improved dramatically (at least the variety) over the years. We have been going on a regular basis since 2001. Back then it seem liked every CS meal was either a burger or chicken strips. On this trip we just finished we ate all CS (budget issues) and I had only one burger by choice.

maybe he was just apicky eater..on the other comment though about having to make adrs, thats not neccesarily true,we just got back on saturday we were there from aug 1-to aug7 and it was very busy at the parks but we were able to get into the brown derby the day we were at DHS..some of the other restraunts we ate at were tepan edo(had a reservation for that one)and right into yak and yeti.as far as cs meals you can do alot better than pizza- we always enjoy the ribs and chicken. now go over to universal and thats a whole diff story...there your pretty much going to eat pizza or burgers.

That's what I was thinking, too. My best meal ever at WDW was a pulled pork sandwich at Flame Tree BBQ. I like simple food. You couldn't pay me to eat at Victoria and Alberts.

or unless you are only a party of two.
