The Berg-Berts do WDW, Part 30 – Closing Thoughts

Unfortunately, reality hits hard when it hits!

I hope all is well at the church and you were able to take care of it all. That is the bad thing when the pastor goes away...things happen and the main leadership isn't there. But, life goes on.

I love the last pic of DS#1. That says it all! :cloud9:

Thanks DO.

The church was fine. Nothing was taken and the only damage was to the lock on the front door.

If it's October, that means that the pace of church life has increased.

It should slow down in August.

Until then, I get to look forward to my next Disney trip.....IN TWO WEEKS!!!!!!

Lacto, so sad about reality setting in again. But you did a wonderful report, hopefully next time, Dre will be feeling better.

So sorry I didn't get to meet you guys. But Lacto, is photography your hobby or something? :teeth: Beautiful pictures again.

Thanks again for your story!

Wow, Todd! Those pics of the WL were beautiful. Professional quality, for sure. Makes me want to be there again, even WITH the long bus rides. Thanks so much for this great report. It was fun hearing about your whole trip, even the parts that didn't include us :teeth: It was also great to see all the pictures, especially those of the boys. You and Dre have a wonderful family, and it was great to meet and spend time with you.

Hope to bump into you in a couple of weeks, too, when you can meet MY boys!!! (Warning, it'll be a tiny bit different....I think they're both taller than you!!)

Thanks, buddy!!! :thumbsup2

I admit that I teared up when we rolled off of the Lodge property. I deeply love this place. For some of you, you know that means that this is a powerful place. Leaving is hard for me. Lisa and the boys are ready to get home but sad in their own ways.
Poor you. :sad2: :grouphug: :confused3 I usually tear up too.

LeavingDay38Small.jpg

I’m not sure #2S even knew he was on the plane for this leg of the journey. He slept most of the way. #1S and I both napped a little.
I have heard of children like this, who sleep in public places, even take naps...I have even seen a few. But never have our children done this. Not even when they were 18 months. Not even 10 oclock at night at the MK or a car. :confused3 You are sooooooo lucky for this.

4 hours later we arrived into our fair city. Now I should let you know that reality had attempted to smack into us already. That morning I got a call on my cell phone. I had someone asking for pastoral advice. I was in Kansas City without a single helpful thing to give. But asked them to call me back the next day when I was actually in the office. Then, when we get into town, we decide to stop and get milk. I happened to park next to a parishioners vehicle. When they came out, we chatted for a couple of minutes. It was then that I found out that the church has been broken into while we were gone. When Lisa comes out, I tell her we need to stop by the church. I check on everything and find out the church is okay. But another parishioner, who is at the church informs me that we have had a family leave the church. So this is how my life in reality smacked into me. The next day, I had two inquiries to do funerals.

So, what kind of discounts is WDW offering now?

Awwwww, Todd. I can totally relate. You know my line of work, and I have similar feelings at the end of the escape.... :sad2: It is just soooo hard to go back to reality. You have such a stressful job. I hope you can continue to go on vacations to maintain your sanity and mental health whenever you can. Wait. I forgot. You would need to be sane and have good mental health to be able to maintain them. Never mind. :rolleyes1

ps. Was it the tube socks?

Thanks for the great report.....loved it and enjoyed spending time with you, dre and the kids. Your good pal, me

Okay, a sad story with a happy ending. Call this an epilogue, of sorts.

On our way out of the park, we stopped by the Exposition Hall to pick up our PhotoPass CD. We had decided to buy the CD before we even left home. Because I take so many pictures and video everything, I don’t get to be in many of the pictures. The PhotoPass pics gives us the chance to have all of us in the picture. Plus we had two cards: one for the party and another for the rest of the week. I wanted to combine them into one CD. All totaled up we had 127 pictures on the two accounts. Which wasn’t too bad. We got our CD and headed for the Lodge again.

Then I headed back to see if everyone was up. We packed up the last items. We got our travel bags supplied. Checked the room. Threw away extra stuff. And then left our beautiful poolside Lodge room.

There were two things that were to form the foundation for souvenier/momentos for this trip: pins and Photopass CD. It is true that I am not in that many pictures because I take them all the time. #1S isn't sure that I went to WDW in 2003 because of this.

We were determined to use the PhotoPass to our advantage. And 127 pictures was the end result. With two little problems.

First: of the 127 photos taken, about 1/4th of them were duplicates. I would preview them online and there was no differences between two pictures. So the 127 was slightly exaggerated.

Second: some of the pictures were below amateur quality. I know that I am an amateur. Thanks Susan for the compliments about the Lodge pics. I am trying to develop a photographers eye. But I know quality when I see it. Some of the photos were very, ummm, cruddy.

I have heard some folks raving about their PhotoPass pictures. And I will say there were some great pictures. But there were also some really bad pictures of us. Mostly there were serious tilts or bad framing.

But it was worth the cost for having pictures of the family together.

But all of that was build up for this. In the process of packing, we threw the CD away.

As near as we can reconstruct the events, I had put it in a Disney bag and "thought" that I had put it in one of the suitcases with other "flat" souveneirs. Lisa was setting about getting extra Disney bags condensed and tossed.

When we got home, the CD was nowhere to be found. We tore the suitcases apart as we unpacked them. I went through computer and video bags. There was no CD to be found.

So I contacted the PhotoPass people to ask for a replacement. We were ready to pay the $100+ for another CD. We really wanted those pics. But the PhotoPass people responded that they would replace the CD for no cost.

We now have a new CD with 94 pictures. They went through and deleted all of the extras. But it was still worth is for us.

Todd it is so true when they say we need a holiday after our holiday. Wear ourselves out we do.

I agree with the Photopass people. Some shots the guy put my DS in front of DD. Will you can barely see her. I am glad they sent you another copy. That is our fear, losing something or leaving something behind. Almost like going back to see if we locked the car when we locked it a few times.

Beautiful pictures you took. We were there in January and hope to go back someday.

Did I read right you are going back in two weeks.....is that the one without the family.

I really enjoyed you trip report , thanks for sharing your trip and family with us.

Yes and Yes NAB.

I go back on the 8th by myself for a few days of play and a conference. It's a couple of years of payback for Dre getting to run off with "the girls" and go play.

I thoroughly enjoyed your reporting and photos, Todd. Too bad about the carpy Photopass shots.

I have never used Photopass, but may give it a try in January when I visit the Mouse with friends so we can all be in some of the photos.

Hope you get a chance to get back to the Adventurers Club next month. Kungaloosh!

1971. The first time I was ever on Disney property. No. I don’t remember it. I don’t even have any pictures of being there. But that was the first time. I was less than a year old. We went to Disneyland. I have no clue if that imprinted on me the deep love that I have for Disney parks. But every trip in my memory (1984, 2003, 2006) has been one of powerful memories. Things that I wouldn’t trade anything for, even if I could.

I’m not an overly emotional kind of person when it comes to warm, fuzzies. I’m a logic person. Emotions get in the way of logic. But when it comes to Disney trips, all that logic stuff takes a flying leap. I don’t feel like the same person when I’m there. I will do things and act in ways that aren’t normal for me. I become something more than the day to day Todd. Maybe even something better.

I said earlier that there wasn’t much magical that happened on our trip. I meant that in a tangible way. There weren’t a lot of the little plusses to our trip. It wasn’t sprinkled with many moments of remarkable happenstance. Serendipity.

But it was a trip filled with grace. Unmerited favor. Good result without doing something to earn it.

I saw that grace in the eyes of my boys when they met their heroes (even if the hero is a villain). Or listening to them ask one another, “What was your favorite thing?” I experienced that grace when, even at the depth of exhaustion and illness, Lisa and I were not short or rude to one another or the boys. That grace softened some of the hard shell that I project to protect me from getting too close to people. And that shell that protects people from the full jerk I can be.

This was a trip that transformed me. In a little way. I’m different after this trip. I laugh more these days. I haven’t laughed this much in a long time. I feel the importance of having friends and colleagues. I don’t feel that efforts are always futile but that some bear wonderful fruit.

I don’t believe Walt Disney World to be holy ground. It isn’t even sacred ground. And there is a difference folks. But I believe that sometimes the most simple things, the things that can be taken for granted, can be windows to transforming moments. Maybe this trip was just the chance to break out of the rut that I was in. Maybe it was the offering of a new wind in my sails to get me moving again. Maybe it was the magic that I needed.

Some find that magic in the deer woods or on a crystal lake fishing. Some find it in the mountains and deserts (one s). Some find it among family and friends. Some find it in solitude. For me, that magic was in the midst of thousands of people, yet with only my family. It was in the restful exhaustion of full days of walking. It was in that place that came into being because one man had a vision. And even though he was lying, dying in a hospital bed on the west coast, he could see that place in his minds’ eye. Just as one man, who died on a cross 2,000 years ago, saw my need for grace this one particular week and made it real.

Peace.

Lacto you and your family are beautiful inside and out.

I enjoyed your report, and your last great words. Peace be with you too.

As usual, I arrived late for a trip report. I read the entire thing and I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post your report. I enjoyed it immensely. :goodvibes

And some of my favorite things are from Canada. Red Green. Due South. Celine. William Shatner. Matt Frewer. Celine. And Off Kilter. Yeah, I know it is all pop culture stuff. But they really have some cool people in Canada.

Eeeks! And you forgot Barenaked Ladies. Though if you like Celine, maybe you're not a BNL fan. Just sayin'.

I'm woefully behind on your report, but enjoying it very much.

Lacto,

I am so glad I got to hang with you, Dre and the boys. I'm also glad I got to rub your head.

Your closing thoughts ( I read them twice) might redeem you for the back picture you took of me.

THIS IS IT, folks!! This explains why Disney brings so many (ME included!!) peace, rest, rejuvenation, happiness, and family appreciation. I absolutely love the correlation to Christ here as it is a reminder that grace is an every day need! Praise God you found it on Walt's 47 square miles, my friend. I hope this will carry you for a long time.

This says it all!

Lacto...Thanks for your closing thoughts. We all find peace in our own ways, and I believe many of us find it at WDW, where we can leave the everyday responsibilities behind and become "care free" for a few days!

May God Bless you & your family daily!

Fourth is the villain. Maleficent is the quintessential villain. She is the embodiment of evil.

She is!! She's perfect in her evility. But we call her Melissafant. Because that's what Piper called her. (Shh, don't tell my friend Melissa!) Sleeping Beauty is our favorite!

Thoroughly a good, good, GOOD report Lacto and Dre! It was a joy to meet your family and share in a tiny way in your trip. What a nice, regular down-to-earth family you are.

Lacto and Dre!!!!

What a pleasure it was to spend time with you and your boys, both in real life and through this report!

Thanks, Lacto. And Dre, for your contributions, too. This was a fantabulous report, and I loved being a small part of it. Well, a smaller part than my husband, anyway :teeth:

You (both) are good people. Look forward to meeting up again!!!

Excellent report Lacto and Dre!

Even though I didn't get to spend much time getting to know you that evening at the Poly, I felt I got to know you a little more through your report.

Thanks for the great read, photo's and words of wisdom!

And one more thing:

2 table service credits (Lisa and I didn’t use the boys), and 10 counter service. Yes, 10. We just didn’t eat as much as the plan provided

:faint:
