What does the beach look like? is it a large beach like the Poly and Floridian or is it just sand around a pool?

The pool itself has a sand bottom. There is a sand area for kids to play in next to the pool. It's like a "real" beach in many ways.

There is also a beach away from the pool by the water that the Friendship boats that take you to/from Epcot and Disney studios travel on. Can't remember the name of that lake! You can't swim in it, but there are lounges for relaxing on and adult swings to enjoy. At nights there could be a movie and campfire on this beach. I know they had them last year when we were there in the summer.

The beaches at the Poly and GF are much nicer, but the BC has SAB which is a great pool.

There is a white sand beach at the edge of Crescent lake at BC. It is fairly large, but not as large as Poly.

As usual, good superfast replies!

So the beach is large and can be played on, but the water can't be swam in?

Yes, it is large enough for some play time. My son loved playing in the sand while we relaxed in the lounge chairs. It was very peaceful.

Right. Even if you could swim in it, there is no way you'd catch me in any body of water in Florida (except a pool). Never know where a gator might be. :scared1:

No swimming allowed at the beach proper, but here's a pic:

And a different angle, looking towards the Swan and Dolphin:

I don't think there is a natural (in the sense of not being maintained by chemicals, since some of the waterways at WDW are manmade) body of fresh water in Florida where it is recommended you swim/play, due to the dangerous microbes that have been discovered. I believe it is a form of amoeba that can enter the body and eventually result in and possibly fatal case of encephalitis.

There have been several fatal cases over the past few years.

I think I'll stay by the pool...

As for the beach at BC, I believe they also hold clambakes periodically there - they were setting one up when we walked by in December.

Last fall, after we boarded a FriendShip boat going from the BC/YC to MGM, we saw a HUGE, oddly colored snake swimming in the water. It was swimming with its head and body about a foot out of the water!! YIKES!! We love to relax on the BC beach at night & enjoy the lights from the Boardwalk. We were a little skiddish when going on the beach at night later that week!
