The Battle for My Wallet Part II: Disneyland Boogaloo

Great report, I can't wait to hear about your next adventure with the mouse.

Zzub,

What a great report. Thanks so much for finishing it! Can't wait to hear about your "free dining" trip. You also made me cry.......

Lovely final part - well worth waiting for. (And the outlets at WDW are nearly as good as Nordstrum, surely....) :wave2:

I waited for what felt like forever for the final report, THAT was so worth waiting for Zzub! The end had me welling up here at work. Someone tried to talk to me over the wall (hate that) while I was enveloped in the ending, the best part. She broke my concentration....anyway, that was a wonderful ending. The whole darn thing was wonderful.

I can't wait for the Free Dining report! It will give me some good reading on my maternity leave :goodvibes

Okay, I just read this entire report (misting up at the end) and I have to say it was fantastic! You have convinced me to #1 go to DL, and soon, and #2 to, when I have a little rugrat of my own, take him/her even as a toddler.

I'm a little younger than you, but I could relate to your memories of a Disney Childhood - the playground at Days Inn rocked! - and I think it's fantastic that you're passing that on to your daughter.

Can't wait for the next report!!

You made me cry. I've been to DL and could see everything you described and then you talked about WDW and forget it. I cried.

If Delswife goes to Disney World to visit her dad, then I suppose I go to Disney World to visit me.

I'm going to unofficially borrow that. It's so hard to explain what Disneyland "does" to me, but that's about it right there.

Great trip report, even if you HATE the food at Disneyland. That blows my mind because I think it's really good (and not just "for a theme park"). Wonder how I'll feel about the food at WDW...

PS- :sniffle: You are too sweet. What lovely words you write about your family. It brought tears to my eyes.

I mean... groupie. Errrr... fan. There. That's better. So...Hi ZZUB. I was thinking about your comment on your other trip report thread that you haven't got a new trip to WDW in the works. It's a damn shame. So... I propose this: How about a quickie trip to Disneyland again, instead? The Disneyland Boogaloo Two (or Too)?

Zzub, as much as I enjoyed your WDW trippie, I loved this one. Why? Because I have been a couple of times to DL, and haven't been to WDW (yet) (I should stop going to DL and DLP and save money for WDW, but I'm afraid that a week at WDW won't do much good for my diet!)

I actually kinda liked the food at DL. Sure, it isn't high cuisine as I know it from DLP (where you have restaurants that are Michelin-rated!) (and the China has Cinderella's birds on them) (and you get Cinderella's slipper dessert as a regular dessert choice with the 34 EUR 3-course menu at l'Auberge de Cendrillon) (and you find alcohol IN Disneyland Park!!!) (OK, I'll stop now)
Oh, yes, food in DL. I kinda like the chowder-in-bread-bowl in NOS and the Pacific Wharf thing at DCA. They have Dole whips. And I like the "Flinstones meet Sandra @ Disneyland"-turkey legs. (yeah, I like them, me, the one who gets the Cinderella slipper as a dessert loves turkey legs!) (I know how to enjoy the simple things in life. But I guess only Belgians who know that Herta-commercial for ham and hot dogs will understand me) And, don't kill me, I liked the Rainforest Cafe at DTD.

I wouldn't be me if I wouldn't add some remarks though:

I am so glad you realized how great POC is in Dineyland. It was Walt's favorite attraction (I have been vindicated, I got flamed for not being able to back up that claim last year. It was just published in my Disney Visa Newsletter, so it must be true.)

As far as I know, Walt died before the ride was finished, so actually, he never got to ride it through in a boat. He only got to walk through a partially finished ride. This, of course, doesn't exclude the fact that it could be his favourite one.

That is my new standard for suffering. Before I describe anything as a nightmare, horrible or hell-like, I will ask myself whether the people of New Orleans would have traded places with me. By this new standard, no one at Guantanamo Bay should complain either.

I shouldn't comment on this one, but I think it's unfair to even say the people in Guantanamo Bay shouldn't complain.
And I think there is something that is even worse than Katrina, a hurricane people knew was coming, so they could try to get safe. (Note: I am not saying that everyone could get in a safe place, I know it wasn't the case) The Tsunami was, IMHO, worse, because it just happened, without satellites following it's course, and people couldn't even try to get in a safe place.

I had to go back and read your old trip report when I saw in your sig file that it was about my home park. Why I don't write about the park I visit once a year i don't know. I've gotta change that.

I wanted to say I agree 100% with all your observations. DL rocks and I'm glad that a WDW person can appreciate the cool things that are there. And DCA sucks (except Soarin'). Yuppers, if they would have listened to me but Nooooooooooooooooo

P.S. The best food is in Club 33 or Napa Rose. Barring that there is Pacific Pier in DCA (Boudins bread ROCKS) or Red Rockets (I think it's called - its the pasta place in Tomorrowland in the back). The rest of the food sucks.

Zzub, you've once again hit on the reason why Disney, whether it be land or world is such a special place to go. No amount of spectacular rides in a park will ever be able to top those special little things that happen in Disney when the character your child wants to meet more than anything seems to sense it and delivers in a way you couldn't have dreamed of.

I need to get this onto my "must read" list. So .... <<<Bump!>>>

When I’m there I remember the best times of my childhood, before pimples and dating, before my parents divorced, before college and law school, student loans and the crushing reality of practice. ... I remember the unbelievable fun we’ve had with our families in Disney World.
This is so true...it's the nostalgia that brings me back, more than anything.

I enjoyed every word of your report. You have such a gift for writing.

okay I was trying to read this after getting annoyed with my fiance for something he actually didn't do but I was in a bad mood and he dared to ask me a question about the stove and it's self cleaning abilities...stupid thing to ask when I'm in a bad mood...anyhow...so I huff off the computer, leaving him very bewildered and make it clear that I am "not speaking" to him and begin to read your trip report...but it's very hard to maintain "we are in a fight" silence when you are cracking up laughing at a Disboard trip report! So here I sit at the computer howling internally and trying with all my might to remain outwardly silent...but then I got the part about the belching and I could not contain myself any longer. I laughed really loudly, the way I always do when I'm heartily amused. This of course annoyed my DF b/c why was I laughing when I was supposed to be mad?! Not only was I making him feel badly b/c I was unjustly mad at him, but NOW I wasn't even "not speaking" to him anymore...I very obviously wasn't even thinking about him anymore because I was LAUGHING. I mean if I was going to laugh when I was supposed to be mad I should be laughing at HIM. :lmao: Then I go and get to the part about the you and your wife being in Disney, not knowing she was pregnant...and now I'm CRYING...which alarms my DF b/c I was just laughing a moment ago...and through the Magic of Disney Via Zzub's trip report, DF is apologizing to ME and bringing me a diet coke and asking if I want a back rub!!! :wizard: Being a girl ROCKS! And I'm not a bad person b/c I DID apologize back for being unjustly huffy at him and all ended well... :smokin:

I loved your report and am looking forward to reading your venture into Free Dining!! thanks for the fun :thumbsup2

It’s odd to me that the Disneyland trip reports are so rare. Compared with Disney World trip reports which are as plentiful as Magic Your Way ticket options, it seems very few people come home from Disneyland and tap out a summary of their trip. I wonder why that is so.

Did you know that we have a trip reports board over on our Disneyland forum? Lots of folks post great trip reports over there.

I'm going to move this over to the Disneyland trip reports forum.

WOW ZZUB! What an incredible report! You had me laughing out loud throughout and crying a little bit towards the end too. You have the funniest sense of humor and a great gift for writing! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more in the future! :goodvibes
I too would love to see pictures!
