Question regarding The Baths in Tortola…this will be a multigenerational trip and everyone wants to see them. With that said there are several in our group who would not be able to go through the actual caves (older, bad knees). Is there a way to see the boulders, etc without having to go through the caves part? Is this something we should do on our own or using Disney excursion? Thank you so much!!

The boulders ARE the caves part.
(They aren't actually caves, it climbing around through boulders.)

You can take a ferry yourself and walk down to either beach. The "elders" can walk back up while the rest clamber through. You can't get to the second beach from the first without going through the boulders, though.

(Another option is to take a private sailboat out, but then you need to swim in from the boat.)

Actually - There is a way to get to the second beach too without going through the boulders. When you do the bath excursion you will start at the top with your group and hike down a trail to the 1st beach. You will have a little while to swim, then the group will go through the boulders to get to the second beach. After more free time, your will take a second trail to the top. The people in your group that are not doing the baths, can just go down the second trail and meet you when you come out of the boulders.

This is great thank you so much!!!

In case you're not familiar with the Baths, this park is located in Virgin Gorda, not Tortola.

I don't know the transportation arrangement with the cruises, but typically you would have to take a 30 min ferry ride from Tortola to Virgin Gorda, then hail a taxi from the dock to the Baths. Taxi ride is about 7 min.

If you're exploring the boulders, be prepared to walk on slippery rocks and wade through water of various depths.

Thank you so much for the information! We have never been so I appreciate the feedback.

We did it once, but will not do it again. The path is very rocky and uneven with nothing to hold on to, we are late 60s, early 70s and exercise daily and active. My balance is bad Though. I had to hold onto someone both directions. Once we got to the beach we were not impressed. Glad we did this on our own so the cost wasn’t bad.

I really appreciate your input. My parents are also in their late 60s and while they are also in good shape, I do worry about their balance. Thank you so much for letting me know. Have you been other times and if so what would you recommend?

Maybe you should show your parents a video of this place to see if it's manageable. There is also a hike from the taxi drop off location to the ocean. I'm not sure if the path that n2mm mentioned above is this hike or if she meant going through the "caves" and lagoons.

We were on the first DCL cruise to Tortola. I did a lot of research and decided not to go the traditional way of starting at the top. We did a catamaran tour where we reached it by water. We used Patouche tours. It was an amazing day.

this was the path going down to the beach area. I agree that taking a boat or catamaran would be a better/easier option.

I did a easy beach day on a recent cruise. I would have to look it up to see which beach it was. It was a quiet place.

we are off again next Saturday. Both eastern and western Caribbean cruises.

In February we plan to do the Baths, we've never been. Its hubby and I, and our 13 year old. We want to do it on our own, not through Disney. Are there ferries readily available near the ship port? Do they take advance booking? Once over there, can you walk to the Baths or have to taxi? Any help about how to get there and back is appreciated. Thank you!

There is a ferry terminal within walking distance from the ship. Tickets for the ferry to Virgin Gorda usually include transportation in an open-air vehicle to and from the Baths.
