If you are planning a trip to WDW, the best tip I can give you is to check out the Baby Care Centers!

Each park has them, and they were great for diaper changes. We hit the ones in Epcot, MK, and AK, and they were all wonderful.

I will second that notion - MK was especially nice and clean and cool and quiet and . . .

well - you get the idea! :goodvibes

The nursing rooms in them are sooo nice. From the rockers to the dim lighting, just perfect!

are there one of these in each park? If so, it would make moot all the discussion about breastfeeding in public in the parks.

Yes, they're in each of the 4 parks. AK is one of the nicest in my opinion. MK and EPCOT both have nice breastfeeding rooms. I had a wonderful conversation with another new mother in EPCOTS breastfeeding room over how nice Disney is about having these areas.

Uh, no, it wouldn't. I've been to the parks MANY times with a nursing baby and have never used the baby care centers. Would you really want to hike all the way back to one when your baby needed to nurse? I know I wouldn't - and don't.

If you want to use them, that's fine. It's nice that they offer them. But it certainly doesn't mean that all nursing moms need to use them.

If I happened to be right near one when my baby needed or wanted to nurse, I might use one just because they sound comfy. I certainly wouldn't trek halfway across the park with a hungry baby to get to one, though. There are plenty of benches, shows, rides, etc. that are wonderful spots to sit and nurse. I enjoy that because I can sit and relax and talk to my DH while the baby nurses, rather than leaving DH all alone to go off into a nursing room.

I sincerely don't want this to degenerate into another one of "those" debates. I just wanted to point out that offering nursing rooms, while a nice gesture, won't (and shouldn't) keep moms from nursing in public. The only thing that will ever make that discussion "moot" is people realizing that there is absolutely nothing objectionable about seeing a mother breastfeeding her child.

I do agree, though, that having Baby Care Centers in the parks is a nice idea, for guests who might want to use them for diaper changes, buying baby supplies, and nursing (if that's what they want to do).

EXACTLY!

I probably nursed my daughter 5 times a day on our Thanksgiving trip to WDW. Should I have missed accompanying my other children on rides and sights to trek to one small spot in a massive themepark every time my infant was hungry? This would have literally eaten up the entire day. Totally unrealistic.

I started this thread to let others know about the great Baby Care Centers in the parks.

They are so much better than trying to change your child in the crowded restrooms, and they offer other items such as medicines, and supplies people might need when they are in the parks. Whether you breastfeed or bottlefeed, the Baby Care Centers are a good option for the whole family since they offer a calm spot to take a break.

If it continues to go down the path it's headed, I will have it closed. I think that is pretty sad when they are a good resource to know about, and can help ALL parents.

Well, the fact is that you don't always get to choose what "path" your thread takes. That's part of the risk of posting on any busy message board.

Honestly, nobody so far has said anything hostile or rude at all. Your original post was very nice, and I'm sure that lots of parents do appreciate hearing about the baby centers.

However, someone else posted that having nurisng rooms in all the parks should put an end to the discussion on breastfeeding in public, insinuating that, if there are nursing rooms available, nobody should need to breastfeed anywhere else. That may not be what that person meant, but that's certainly how it sounded.

I am sorry, but I can't let that be said without correcting it. To do so would be a huge disservice to all the nursing moms planning a trip to Disney World. Since this thread was meant to help parents, I'm sure you wouldn't want moms to be under the impression that they had to hike back to the nursing room every time they needed to nurse. That's simply bad information.

I sincerely apologize if you feel your thread has gone off track, but that happens a lot. It's human nature.

While I am not new to message boards, I am well aware of not being able to choose the path that a thread takes.

I understand that you wish to correct what you felt was incorrect information, however, I know how volitile the issue of breastfeeding v. bottlefeeding can be on both sides and there really isn't a need for this thread to go down that path.

That's certainly true. There is no need for discussing breastfeeding vs. bottlefeeding on this thread.

However, nobody has discussed that. What has been dicussed a bit is where at Disney World it is appropriate to breastfeed. That is a totally separate discussion form the breast vs. bottle issue, and it is a reasonable topic to bring up on a discussion about the baby care centers.

I really appreciate that you don't want this to turn into a debate, and I sincerely hope (for all of our sakes) that it doesn't. I appreciate you sharing your good experiences with the baby care centers and I know that there are other parents out there that are going to find your information valuable.

I've also been reading your thread on the Theme Parks board about your experiences, and I've really enjoyed it. Sounds like you had a great trip!

Thanks for seeing that my reasoning was not to stifle conversation, but to let other parents know about a resource. In the past, I have seen threads go down that path, with people getting their feelings hurt, and I didn't want that to happen. :sunny:

:sunny: Totally understood. :sunny:

Let's all just stop and feel the love. :grouphug:

Can someone kindly tell me where these are located? Do they happen to sell diapers etc there? Is there only one at each park? If we are going past I will certainly take advantage of these! Thanks for the info!

The one in Epcot is between the walkway from Test Track to the World Showcase, and the one in MK is next to Crystal Palace. The one in AK is next to Pizzafari.

I think they have diapers available, as well as t-shirts and onesies in case of accidents. They also have an area for warming bottles or babyfood jars.

The thing that won me over was that the changing areas were so clean and calm, as opposed to a busy bathroom.

Are the baby care centers just for babies? Or can I change my 2 1/2 year old's diaper in there? (So far no interest in potty training. )

The only baby care center that I visited was EPCOT's and I agree it was wonderful. My DD1 was feeling bad and I ducked in there. It turned out that she had a fever and they were able to give me something to take her temp and then gave me tylenol. This baby center may have been combined with a first aid center. :confused3 It was nice to have a place that was cool to rock her while I waited for everyoner else though.
