Just wondering if anyone has taken a trip to the bahamas and stayed at the Atlantis. I really want to take this trip this nov. but it all seems so expensive. Ive been reading about the sharks and all they have at the hotel and only hotel guests are able to view these things but is it really worth it? Any info would be appreciatd it!

I've stayed there once, after having walked through the prior year while staying at the (now) Wyndham Crystal Palace.
Atlantis is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are very nice, the service quite good, though of course not Disney level, but what is?
As much as I enjoyed the beach, the pools, the casino, aquarium, etc, I must say it was one of the few vacations I've ever taken where I was literally lounging in the pool and mentally calculating how much it was costing me per minute to be there.
If you stay on-property for meals, the restaurants are ok, but the prices are truly outrageous. A beachside burger and fries was around $12, a bottle of water about $5. A steak at one of the fine dining restaurants was around $60. This was a few years ago, it could be different now, but I doubt prices have decreased!
When I go to a resort like that, I like to just relax, not scrounge around trying to find the best deal on breakfast ( I do that all all year to save for my Disney trips). that being said, it was hard to enjoy the breakfast buffet at about $16 each.
Maybe I'm just cheap! If money is no object, go for it.

If you want to have an "Atlantis" vacation without the Atlantis pricetag, consider staying at the Comfort Suites directly across the street from the Atlantis. Guest of the C.S have full use of the Atlantis facilities and there are more affordable places to dine in Nassau.

We vacationed in The Bahamas a few months ago. We stayed on Grand Bahama Island at Our Lucaya resort on Lucaya Beach. We had a wonderful time, beach was absolutely gorgeous, and the people of The Bahamas were very friendly.

That being said, we did find most things on the expensive side, especially food, and it did seem as though wherever we went there was someone with his or her hand out expecting money for something or other.

And watch out for those taxi drivers, (like mini-vans actually). We had a driver that took us on a wild ride through town. She was doing 50mph in a 35mph zone, and I swear she took corners on two wheels! We laugh about it now, but at the time it was scary!

I have stayed at the Atlantis twice now. Last Juy and this past July. Two of the best vacations I have ever had. This most recent trip cost me next to nothing. Because I had the preferred player card, a card that I received on my first trip that I somehow earned by playing the slots, my room was free, I payed only the taxes which amounted to $53 for two of us. We also saved money by eating outside of the Atlantis, across the street in a strip mall. I love this hotel, there is always something to do and it does not have to cost an arm and a leg if you are smart about it.

Cantw8,
How much did you spend on slots???? Wow. that would be great to be able to have free room for a return trip. Would sure make it worth it.
That is someplace I have always wanted to go.

When i search atlantis on expedia.com im given 3 hotel choices...there is not much difference in price considering what im going to be paying already. Is one hotel that much better then the next? Also do they have dolphin swims at the hotel?
