The Anaheim Hotel vs. The Hyatt Regency

I know 2 completely different categories of hotels; however, here is where I struggle.

The Hyatt Regency is 255 dollars cheaper than the Anaheim and I'm trying to figure out if the option to just walk to DL is worth the extra cost. My wife loves the look of the Anaheim as it gives her that 60s vibe she thinks of when she thinks of Cali and DL.

I have not stayed at the Anaheim Hotel but the Hyatt Regency is very nice and has many additional recreational sports facilities that aren't at other Disney area hotels like ping pong. They have their own shuttle to the parks every 30 minutes and it is on time and very convenient. If you're not the type to return to your hotel room in the middle of a park day, I find the Hyatt Regency better than any similarly priced hotel within walking distance of Disneyland that I've stayed at. Just make sure that you book one of the more recently renovated rooms that have bright photos and not the ones with the dark carpet.

My wife and have become very fond of the Anaheim Hotel and have stayed there over our last several trips to DL. Ultimately, I think any price difference being worth it totally depends on what kind of emphasis you put on various parts of your vacation. Things I can say I like about the Anaheim:

A. As you noted it is quite close to the parks. You're roughly one block to the entrance on Harbor to the parks. Other folks I know don't mind the extra few blocks walk, but that can add up over the course of a day / at night when your feet are hurtin.
B. We personally love the fact that Anaheim Hotel has a lobby bar, where a lot of the hotels this close to the park entrance do not. Have had good bartenders and service, unless there is a convention going on (they do have convention space).
C. We have enjoyed the food at the connected restaurant (Pizza Press). Have had both breakfast and dinner - nothing to write home about, but solid and a convenience perk. We also have enjoyed coffee and breakfast at the Brewberry Cafe, which is only about a 3-4 minute walk down from the hotel.
D. The hotel is clean, has friendly staff, and as you noted, has a cool 60's vibe with a massive swimming pool - no theming, but again, massive.

All in all, I will note that it's not going to typically be as "nice" or modern as the Hyatt or other similarly situated hotels, but when we go to DL, we're not in the room often and the conveniences noted above really swing it for us. Hope that helps :)

Thank you for your review! My daughter and I are trying The Anaheim Hotel in 15 days:). Yes, we have a countdown going!

I was wondering if the rooms had a Nespresso or other coffee option in the room. Thanks in advance!

Glad it was helpful! I can definitely recall typical coffee in the room, but I don't think there is Nespresso. Have a great trip!

I have not stayed at the Hyatt, but enjoyed The Anaheim Hotel with my daughter a couple years ago. Being able to grab breakfast from the Pizza Press before we walked to the park was a huge perk for us, as was the ability to walk between the park and hotel. (my daughter has a heart condition, so being able to make it back to the room without waiting for a tram/bus/Uber is important) I’m a huge sucker for anything mid century modern, so the aesthetic was a huge bonus. I liked how large the pool area is, and that you didn’t feel you were crowding other guests. Only you can judge what $255 is “worth” to you though,
