I know that they have said it was NOT haunted(documentaries), but I know a couple ppl that use to live in Amityville, and they said it really was.

I believe firmly in this kind of thing and I think this was a major hoax. It made for a fun movie though.

No need to be like that, this conversation came up the other day at work and they use to live there.

I voted no, but I don't believe in haunted houses. My husband says yes, but since I voted, his vote doesn't count. :teeth:

I said yes...who am I to argue with ghosts...I'd rather argue with Disers...they can't make my walls bleed :scared:

You know, I think it's a huge shame..A whole family, the DeFeo's were brutally murdered in that house...They get forgotten for a faked ghost story.

Now I wouldn't want to go in that house, not because of a haunting but because it's a slaughterhouse.

I said yes, I lived one town over and our fun on a Friday nioght was driving passed it to see if we could see any "spirits". We were so caught up in it I think I am brainwashed to believe it's haunted. Ah, those were the days....

:rotfl2:

Amytyville? I dont know enough about it to make an informed decision. I would lean towards no though from the little I do know.

I feel the exact same way. That poor family

btw I think it was a total hoax. I am a firm believer in haunted houses and ghost (even if I sound crazy yes I do believe I have seen a couple) but I think this was faked, a really good fake, look at all the people who believe it was real and how much money they've made with the book and movie, but a fake none the less

While I don't believe it's haunted, there is definitely an aura of foreboding around the neighborhood the closer you get to that house.

I thought it was a hoax? I believe the hoouse has undergone a big remodel and no longer has the signature half-moon window upstairs. If it was haunted, the current owner's sure ain't complaining.

I am reading Stephen King's book, Danse Macabre, and I learned that the movie is an economic horror movie. The family, at least the fictional one in the movie, not only had to deal with ghosts, but economic devastation. This was their first house, they sunk everything into it, and so the horror was economic loss.

I agree.:guilty: I know it's morbid, but I've been on a website that discussed the murders and I saw some pics of the younger brothers and sisters laying in their beds. So eerie and sad. I couldn't possibly imagine being in that home where all those lives were so brutally taken.:sad2: I do believe in hauntings, but I think in this case that the Lutz's capitalized on this crime. I'm not aware of any other documented cases of residents of that home claiming that the house is haunted.

Oh, I loved that book, Danse Macabre. I need to go back and read it again.
I love anything Stephen King. My husband says I'm odd because my two favorite things are Stephen King and Mickey Mouse :scared1:

Sorry! Got OT

Not only that, but the changed the numbers on the house. Too many people were coming by to look at it.

I've seen those too. If you haven't you should try to catch the show called "First Person Killers: Ronald DeFeo" I think it was on the Bio Channel.

Weird. Interesting but chilling. He now claims his sister Dawn killed the siblings, not him. :sad2:

No matter what number they put on it those of us in the area know exactly which house it is. I remember as a kid (16 or so) we drove over there one stormy halloween night and it was really blowing up a storm outside. We pull up and park across the street and a few minutes later the lights all go out on the block and a branch of a tree (small tree branch) falls and hits the hood of our car- man did we tear out of there LOL....I don't believe it is haunted but as a kid it freaked me out after that night LOL.

My sister actually dated DeFeo a few times. He really liked my cousin Carol but she didn't much care for him and asked my sister to fill in for her on a few dates. Both girls thought he was creepy and ill mannered. In hindsight, that was an understatement. As for the house being haunted? Doubtful. I always thought it was a get rich quick hoax.

Nope. I'm a believer in the paranormal but this one is a total hoax. George and Kathleen Lutz used the background story of the murders to fabricate the haunted house story. Nothing but scam artists...:sad2:
