THE AMAZING RACE 15, Season Starts 09/27/09

I'm liking a couple of the teams: the poker players, Globetrotters, the gay guys, father/son and Zev/Justin. We shall see if that continues as the game progresses.

I'm glad the first leg was non-elimination. It wouldn't have seemed fair for it not to have been. Making your way through the city is one thing but the spinning of the wheel has nothing to do with your ability, it's all chance.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Zev/Justin fair. I think that it's cool that Zev is taking this challenge on. Sort of like the deaf guy did last season and Marla/Charla? a couple of seasons ago. And wasn't there someone that had an artificial leg? The challenges are geared toward normal sized people with no disabilities. Kudos to those special people!

As a fellow Christian, I hope that the Christian couple says true to their faith and the editing shows it. Nobody is perfect and I'm sure that I would have at least one melt-down if I were on the race but I'm hoping that they will be good & that the editing will not take a mistake and rerun it or blow it up.

I am a fan already of Justin & Jev, the Globetrotters, and the father/son team. Good players with solid relationships.

I really wanted the poker players to go, especially after they lost 2 in their group and went on. Not cool! Who was is that went back and carried the missing player? THAT was cool.

I don't know what they called that episode but it could be called "The Herding Show". First the people and then the ducks. The ducks were easier.

In fairness--the team that "went back" only had to go out the entrance to the shrine where their person was lingering behind slowly (due to pain if her reaction is any indication). There is no way to know how long they would have looked if the person was truly lost somewhere in Tokyo.

The poker ladies made a mistake in losing their 2 members--but they did look for them and they had the remaining folks to think of. I'm sure the lost 2 aren't still hanging out at the busiest crosswalk in the world.

I'm still reserving judgement on the poker players. (though wondering how their bluffing skills help them in poker when it didn't last so long on AR )

My favorites are the Harlem Globetrotters. I think they'll be a hoot all season.

I like the Christian couple too. I felt like I had that connection with them right away. I also like the globetrotters, the team with the Asperger's friend, and the team with the son with the pink hair. I always like to see a team that needs their relationship rekindled on the race. :goodvibes

I'm liking the young athletic couple and the Globetrotters.

I find the poker players amusing and hope thay make it far. I amslo like the Father & son team.

The older dating team will probably not last too much longer & I think the woman is an annoying nut.

The Globetrotters are OK, but the schtick may get old to me after a while.

I hate the MA lawyer and his fiancee - jerks for sure.

So funny that 2 seemingly annoying teams were the last 2 at the license plate challenge - either way, one crummy team was gone right off the bat.

Let me just say.....What is up with the rolling backpacks????

I just don't see the usefullness of them. You can run a whole lot faster with a pack on the back, rather than draging it behind you. If guess if you wanted to wheel the thing around during the rest period or at the airport/train station while waiting for your flight/ride, it would be fine. But for running thru an airport/train station or up the road, it just slows you down.

I wondered about that too. There are backpacks that also can be wheeled.

My DH had that same discussion!

I forgot to add that he may also be French Vietnamese. After all, the French were there before the Americans.

Very true, that could be the case. He had such an interesting look about him.

:rotfl:

I actually like the poker players ... even though they tried to bluff about their real profession. One thing that was glossed over was the the gay brothers are ALSO hiding that they are gay and flirting with girls on the race. AND they ratted out the poker players to all the other teams. They overheard the comment and then everyone knew all about it because of them. Pot. Kettle. Black.

I missed the start of the show. What's with the colored handkerchiefs? Do they have to wear them ala Survivor?

Oh ... and I vote no advance spoilers. I think it's perfectly OK to discuss the show and what's happening while the show is on the air, including eliminations. I know enough to wait to read the thread if I don't get to see the show until later. I just don't want to know who is going to be eliminated before the show starts. How does everyone else feel about that? Or should we remain "mum" on the particulars until the West Coast folks get to watch? I can go either way but sometimes I think it's fun to kind of "blog along" with the show.

Handkerchiefs???? Okay---I must have missed that.

I don't like advanced teasers either.

I have a hard time with time zone restrictions. I live in an East Coast World and a 4 hour ban (3 hours for the time difference plus 1 hour for them to watch the show not including football delays) is a bit extreme of an expectation.

I think it is reasonable that once the show is broadcasting, to perhaps avoid the thread until you are ready to discuss what was seen on the show.

I think there is a difference between the poker players and the gay brothers. The poker players out and out lied while the brothers just haven't told anyone. As for flirting, lots of people flirt.

I agree about the advance spoilers but once the show comes on, discuss away.

I can't stand that hideous Boston accent. If you can't say your R's you sound like a dolt.

Is this REALLY necessary.

I happened to be from Boston. My entire family is from Boston. AND yes, we don't sound our R's but that is because we are BOSTONIANS through and through. And as far as sounding like a DOLT...my husband is a graduate of Harvard University...no one has ever told him he sounded like a dolt evAH.

Please keep in mind that TAR has contestants from all over the USA and that you may offend posters on this thread with comments like that........:headache:

Okay VENT ovAH! ::yes::

I like the globetrotters and I like the poker players. I hope they make it far. I'm not sure how I feel about the older couple, the lady was kind of strange, but at least she had a good attitude.

We were cracking up when they were playing the Japanese game show and whenever the wheel stopped spinning, then that voice that said, "Eat the wasabai.........."

I totally agree with you on every point especially the last one. I immediately was turned off by both the teams that were the last two right off the bat. I almost wished the yogies had won that challange though. I don't think they could have possibly be more annoying than "look at my muscles" man.

I agree that picking on accents from the different parts of our country (or parts of the world, really) is unnecessary and just not nice. :sad2:

momrek: Your post is cracking me up because I live in Massachusetts (I'm a Jersey Girl though!), my DH is from here, and your "evAH" and "ovAH" is making me chuckle! :goodvibes
:thumbsup2

I was cracking up at the different ways the Japanese host would pronounce roulette..and then Phil did the one eyebrow thing! :lmao:

Is this REALLY necessary.

It is just as necessary as calling a team member a "meat head". I think that an educated person should be able to pronounce all of the letters in the alphabet. I didn't call him a dolt, I said he sounded like one, and I stand by my opinion. If he were up there talking about how he cured canceh I would still think he sounded like a dolt, even though he would not actually be one.

My reason for disliking a team is no more or less valid than any other reason, so mine shouldn't be held to a different standard. Calling the lawyer a "meat head" is just as judgmental as thinking he sounds like a moron but I am not scolding the poster who said it. I won't call someone else's opinion wrong. I may not agree with it, but they are as entitled to theirs as I am mine.

It reminds me of the threads where calling someone too fat is scolded while the same people doing the scolding are calling other people too skinny. We all have judgmental reasons for not liking one team or another (dishonesty, meat head, bossy) but it is hypocritical to scold one person's reasons and not everyone's. The whole point of picking teams we like and dislike is judging them, so don't tell me my criteria is not as valid as someone else's.

I wondered about that too. There are backpacks that also can be wheeled.

Maybe she has a bad back, and doesn't want to strain her back.
How many times, have you seen the guy carrying his wife, girlfriend, sisters backpack.
I would probably do the same thing.

I actually like all the teams, except the loud mouth lawyer.
If he wasn't on the show, we wouldn't have anyone to complain about.

Almost throughout the show, I was saying to everyone,
"oh, I like that team, and that team, no that team."
With the first elimination-I didn't even remember who that couple was, I was just screaming at them to find the right license plate, so the lawyer guy and girlfriend could be kicked off.

I actually like the poker players, they came back with a 2 hour deficit, an extra road block. The asian girl did admit that the "asian element" was helping her. She knew how to put the soup together for the police officer. And the other Poker Player looks like Sandra Bullock.
