Just back (well a week and a bit) from my fabulous family trip.

I just wanted to share the amazing experience I had at the California Grill.

Now I have eaten there many times before and it is one of my favorite places to go - Especially to see the fireworks. (Also Loved the HEA from the CG even though you miss out on the castle projects still a good fireworks show).

I went there with my In-Laws (Who had never been) my husband and my 4 year old son who is Autistic. - Last time we went with my son he was 1 years old.

So in all honesty I was slightly apprehensive about taking him as it's sort of hit and miss how well he does in places. But I wanted to share it with my in laws so I booked and thought I could just leave if it all went wrong.

So we got there for our allotted time and got seated fairly quickly - Although they put us on a table in the middle of the room (which definitely wouldn't work for us) I did ask at the podium for a more enclosed seating arrangement for my son. I told our server and he was amazing, I said we'd be happy to wait but he got us a new table in a second.

Have to say every time I've been, the wait staff there are always amazing. They were so good answering all our questions about the food.

It then came to my son's order, now food is an issue - they had a child steak which he would eat but he wouldn't eat the accompaniments. I said we'd be happy with just the steak on its own. He asked if there was anything thing we would like with the steak - I did say he would eat french fries and that was it, They said would send out and get him french fries and they sent someone to get fries from another restaurant in the hotel.

Then they staggered our food so I could help my son to eat before my delicious meal came out. The food is so nice there, that I'm normally an Entree and done kinda person, I ended up having three course :thumbsup2

My son loved the restaurant so much and especially the outside bits, so we could have a bit of a walk outside then back to our food.

Then between courses the Guest Services Manager came over as she heard we ordered french fries and stayed and chatted with us as she had a relative with similar issues and thought it was great that we brought him out to new places and how much he was enjoying it.

Honestly all that help and great service made all the fears and apprehension I had about going there totally disappear.

I wanted to share this story, as I already loved the restaurant for its food, its location and its service, but now I love it even more as it made us feel so welcome (and believe me there are some restaurant, not so much in Disney, that don't).

Lastly my final piece of advice is if you're thinking of taking you kids there and you're worried, don't be, as they are awesome.

(Edit: and before anyone asked, yes I did go to guest services, in the days after, to tell them what exceptional service I received, actually I had a list of people as nearly every CM I interacted with was so brilliant, helpful and friendly)

Glad you had a wonderful time and that your son also enjoyed it. California Grill is one of our favorites as well!

Even thou they keep increasing the prices and making it harder to get good ADR's its this kind of service that keeps people coming back trip after trip.

Glad you had a great experience. It remains one of our favorites and we have never had anything but great service and food there. Looking forward to our next trip.
Unfortunately, it sounds like others have not been as fortunate.

I'm on a low-sodium diet and the chef there was amazing with helping me find something I could eat. He really went out of his way to create something delicious for me instead of just offering me slop like the other Disney table service restaurants did

Glad you had a good experience :)

California Grill is our WDW tradition. We always schedule a meal there and time it to see the fireworks. The food and the service have always been top notch. On our last trip there was a terrible lightning storm that postponed the fireworks. Our server tried to get us to wait it out. He was encouraging us to stay at the table until the fireworks started. We spent about an hour at the table after we finished our dessert but couldn't wait any longer. We heard the fireworks going off when we got back to our resort. Love Cali Grill! Cheers!!!!!!!

We love it too. They were great with our kids when they were really little, bringing goldfish and putting chairs together so my DD could go to sleep and we could enjoy our meal. Still a fan, many years later. It's one of the restaurants where we have pics of the kids at different ages. Some have Chef Mickeys and characters and we have CG.

My son is on the spectrum too and CA Grill is his all time favorite restaurant. We will only be at the parks for 2 full and 2 partial days next week before our 4 day Dream cruise and this was his one "must have."

Last time we were there he ordered the adult filet and they had no problem making it plain for him and serving it with a side of the kid's housemade mac and cheese instead of the fancy sides it came with. He declared it the best meal he has ever had! Our waitress was great too, so attentive without making it weird. She offered to cut his steak for him so I could enjoy my meal but I was already into it so I declined. he can't wait to have it again! (he is 9 so the kid portions are a little small for him).

LOVE the CA Grill and now super excited for our meal there a week from yesterday!

It's just so amazing how they just get it and are so helpful.

Well I hope you have the best time and enjoy the CA Grill.

What a glorious story, original poster! I have tears in my eyes! Thank you for sharing your pixie-dust sprinkled encounter!

It really is a magical place, Disney + Cali Grill, for sure.
