Just back (well a week and a bit) from my fabulous family trip.
I just wanted to share the amazing experience I had at the California Grill.
Now I have eaten there many times before and it is one of my favorite places to go - Especially to see the fireworks. (Also Loved the HEA from the CG even though you miss out on the castle projects still a good fireworks show).
I went there with my In-Laws (Who had never been) my husband and my 4 year old son who is Autistic. - Last time we went with my son he was 1 years old.
So in all honesty I was slightly apprehensive about taking him as it's sort of hit and miss how well he does in places. But I wanted to share it with my in laws so I booked and thought I could just leave if it all went wrong.
So we got there for our allotted time and got seated fairly quickly - Although they put us on a table in the middle of the room (which definitely wouldn't work for us) I did ask at the podium for a more enclosed seating arrangement for my son. I told our server and he was amazing, I said we'd be happy to wait but he got us a new table in a second.
Have to say every time I've been, the wait staff there are always amazing. They were so good answering all our questions about the food.
It then came to my son's order, now food is an issue - they had a child steak which he would eat but he wouldn't eat the accompaniments. I said we'd be happy with just the steak on its own. He asked if there was anything thing we would like with the steak - I did say he would eat french fries and that was it, They said would send out and get him french fries and they sent someone to get fries from another restaurant in the hotel.
Then they staggered our food so I could help my son to eat before my delicious meal came out. The food is so nice there, that I'm normally an Entree and done kinda person, I ended up having three course
My son loved the restaurant so much and especially the outside bits, so we could have a bit of a walk outside then back to our food.
Then between courses the Guest Services Manager came over as she heard we ordered french fries and stayed and chatted with us as she had a relative with similar issues and thought it was great that we brought him out to new places and how much he was enjoying it.
Honestly all that help and great service made all the fears and apprehension I had about going there totally disappear.
I wanted to share this story, as I already loved the restaurant for its food, its location and its service, but now I love it even more as it made us feel so welcome (and believe me there are some restaurant, not so much in Disney, that don't).
Lastly my final piece of advice is if you're thinking of taking you kids there and you're worried, don't be, as they are awesome.
(Edit: and before anyone asked, yes I did go to guest services, in the days after, to tell them what exceptional service I received, actually I had a list of people as nearly every CM I interacted with was so brilliant, helpful and friendly)
