The Alleged Duke Rapes.

On www.drudgereport.com there is a link to a newpaper report that states that the "alleged victim" is being far from truthful. The second dancer reports that the victim wasn't out of her sight for more than 5 minutes and that her allegations are a "crock". In addition to that, apparently her exam was essentially normal. No notable contusions, choke marks, etc. Given all of that, and given the fact that the Nifong election is over, How do you now feel about the Duke students who have been charged with rape? I would like to see what the prosecution actually has in terms of evidence besides this woman's statements that now certainly seem in question. Any thoughts?

I've thought all along that it was a race and/or class issue.

Don't get me wrong. I go to U Maryland and Duke is the ugly in the saying, "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly," but there's a lot of mixed feelings at school. There have been a lot of editorials from early, early on taking that this was likely someone crying wolf to get the naitonal limelight or atleast cause some serious waves. The thought that this might not be a legitimately reported rape drives me bonkers. There are so many women who are too afraid to step up and report it, let alone press charge. Things like this only hinder that from changing.

There are so many questionable things that happened in this case that I can't begin to remember them all. She got to pick from photographs of only Duke Lacross players; not the usual way the line up is done. One student had charges suspended in another state if he stayed out of trouble. He may have well indeed stayed out of trouble but has to answer for those charges as a result of a fight he was in. This doesn't even address the THOUSANDS of dollars required to defend these cases. They need to be competently defended because these charges could send them away for many years. Again, there was no credible DNA evidence. Why would law enforcement and a prosecutor be so reckless?
