Hi. Ive never really given theft in Disney any REAL thought until a few recent posts. Of course I'm careful with my children (as I am EVERYWHERE) and I watch my camera in the park, BUT every trip we see people do STUPID stuff like leaving a camcorder or camera dangling on a stroller arm outside an attraction, and we wonder... Will someone steal that? What were they thinking???

I would like to know if YOU PERSONALLY have ever had ANYTHING stolen from you ANYWHERE on Disney Property.

To keep order, and not let this thread go in all directions...

I'd like to propose a few guidlines.

1) If YOU PERSONALLY, or someone you know prsonally have had anything stolen from you on a trip, and what it was.

1.5) please include any relevant info, like if it was during spring break and your beer was stolen. :teeth: Or how easy it would have been for someone to have stolen it. Was it a no brainer (leaving your digital camera on a bench) :rolleyes1 or did someone go out of their way to steal from you? :smooth:

2) Has anyone had their STROLLER stolen? :cloud9:

3) Has anyone had any food or meals at a restaurant stolen? popcorn::

4) What about park passes, tickets to shows, or money? Wallet or purse?

5) On another note, If you worked as a CM, is theft in WDW a problem?

6) Have there ever been any LARGE heists or theft rings that made the media that happened on Disney property?

7) Have any Disney ride attractions or props or such ever been stolen?

8) Have you ever actually CAUGHT someone trying to steal something from you on DISNEY property? not just someone eyeballing your purse, but they actually HAD it and were trying to get away...

I'm not trying to paint a bleak shadow over Disney; Indeed I LOVE the place, but its a subject I think needs to be asked sooner or later, and I'm just curious as to whether I'm just nieve on the subject.

I had my credit card stolen at the coffee place at the Polynesian. I am not sure if the CM took it, left it on the counter & I didn't see it & someone took or if I dropped it. But it was definitely stolen there & someone was wracking up purchases later that afternoon outside Disney that was not me. I was a wreck because it was New Year's - I was on vacation & when I called Amerian Express to tell them that my card was stolen, they kept telling me I needed to give them my card number. Like I was able to do that. oh well, when I finally got home & cancelled Amex cancelled any of the bogus purchases which was nice. Never heard from Disney.

Since I started the thread; heres my only (rememberable) thefts:

My son left a lanyard with disney pins and one of those personalized name tags in the bathroom stall at the CA Grill. We went back 5 minutes after (when we realized) and it was gone. We called lost and found immediately, and that night and every few days for a couple of weeks. Never found, so someone indeed stole it.

My wife got to missing a very nice choaker necklace from the room. I cant 100% claim it was stolen, but it was in the room when she left for the park (were pretty sure at least). We feel a cleaning lady took it. It was too big to have gotten vaccumed up.

We accidentally left about 8 of the blue freezies in our fridge at All Stars Movies. We called lost and found and front desk as soon as we got home, and a couple more times after that. they were never turned in, so in essence, they were KINDA stolen if there is such a thing.

Mine are small. I'm looking for any real instances of significant value.

Someone attempted to steal our credit card info. We checked into the Polynesian, and about 15 minutes later received a call stating that there had been a problem with our CC info, and could we repeat the info. I said no, and called the desk. Found out that it wasn't Disney calling.

Dumb us, everyone thought someone else had that stupid PalMickey. Gone in 3 minutes. Had to sneak out to buy another so that my son wouldn't know!

I have, otoh, turned in two cameras, and my husband found a wallet this year. He was turning it into the front desk when the owner turned up. Didn't even say "thanks."

we had one of those mister fans taken out of a stroller but that was it. Our fault for leaving it in the stroller. I thought my mother had it, she thought I had taken it from the kids and one of them left it either on the floor part of a rented double or set it down on the ground next to the stroller (he couldn't remember which). I also had a pouch that had my APs and a little cash disappear at the Rainforest Cafe outside AK. My 2 year old was playing with my lanyard which had the pouch on it. I took it away and stuck it in my bag hanging from a chair. I went to the bathroom later and it was gone. No idea if someone took it or I dropped it between the time I put it in the bag and the time I went to the bathroom (we'd been walking around the store). If I dropped it, whoever picked it up didn't turn it in. I had our APs, my drivers license and maybe $10-15 cash in it. No pins on the lanyard at all. The big deal for me was having to replace the license. :rolleyes Of course I also had an interesting time arguing with a CM at Epcot trying to get the APs replaced. They wanted to see my ID, which was in the pouch with the APs so also lost. He started off saying they wouldn't replace it and I got upset. I said Disney told us to carry our IDs with us b/c if the biometrics didn't work, we'd have to show ID to match the name on the card in order to get in the park. So I was doing what Disney told me to do. We had DH's ID and the room cards (thank God that was in my pocket so no charges racked up on it!). The room was in my name and at that time the cards all had the name of the person who the reservation was in on them. I pointed out that I had to show my ID to check in and I could sign showing them the signature matched the one on the back of my card, that the last name matched my husband's, the address on file matched DH's address on his ID and that I could tell them where the pass was activated, it's date of first use and at what park, the "gaps" between first use and most recent use and what parks it had been used in over the last few days. A manager finally approved issuing me a new one. I was just quite thankful we drove on that trip so I didn't have issue trying to board a plane with no id! :sad2:

While at Capt'n Jacks on our last trip my FIL left their camera on the table. We went and saw Cirque and when we left there realized it was 'missing'. Figured where it was left and went back to Capt'n Jacks. No one turned it in and the waiter/busboy said they never saw it. :sad2: It wasn't so much the camera but the memory cards. Both the one IN the camera and the FULL one in the bag.

(but that's not the first camera they lost on a trip) :rolleyes1

I've never had anything stolen in WDW...I have been going since the late 70s as a kid and have never had an issue.

As far as theft rings making the media--none that I am aware of and I have lived in Central, FL since 1997.

I have lost a bracelet though.

Our First Two Trips We Lost A Camera Which Was Turned In And A Fanny Pack With My Daughters Pin Lanyard Full Of Pins And Autograph Book And 20 Dollars In It Left On The Bus And It Was Turned In As Well. We Had Strollers Our First Two Years And Maybe I Am Stupid And Trusting, But I Always Left Everything On My Stroller Including My Purse. Has This Become A Problem?

But I Always Left Everything On My Stroller Including My Purse.

Leaving a purse unattended is absolutely crazy.

You are far too trusting. If you keep doing this, your purse will eventually be stolen.

PS - What's with the all the CAPS?

I DONT EVEN CARRY ONE ANYMORE BECAUSE MY CHILDREN ARE NOT AS NEEDY AS THEY GROW OLDER. I CARRY A SMALL SLING BAG AND THEY WEAR FANNY PACKS.
P.S. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE ALL CAPS OR LOWERCASE? ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT I AM COMFORTABLE WITH. I APOLOGIZE IF THIS BOTHERS YOU, BUT MAYBE YOU NEED TO LIGHTEN UP AND ENJOY THE SMALL THINGS IN LIFE AND STOP ANALYZING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :p

We had a Peter pan sword stolen from our stroller about 3 years ago, my son was very upset so we bought him a new one ofcourse. we also had a cup holder taken off our stroller while we were at playhouse disney.

I do have a good story we lost our cell phone and the person who picked it up held onto it until I was able to get to a phone and dial the number. When He picked up I asked him where he was, turns out he was in DTD so we took a ride there and met the person and thanked him many times.

No problems I know of. I just started this thread to see if LOTS of people would flood it with things that were stolen. Its great that so far so good. But I agree with the other post who said NEVER leave your pocketbook unattended.

It may not have any money in it, but a thief... for all he knows, it might have tens of thousands of dollars in it. Reminds me of a local story. Few years back a guy got his car broken into. In his glovebox was $33,000. OF COURSE the thief took THAT!!! Why was $33,000 in cash in a car overnight to begin with???

PS I found the caps kinda cool! I do all my Ebay titles that way. It Makes Them Look Better!

All caps means someone is yelling.. but I don't care what you type in... doesn't matter to me..

NEWS TO ME..............I HAVE ALWAYS POSTED THIS WAY AND DO THE SAME WITH MY EMAIL. NO ONE HAS EVER SAID ANYTHING. I AM NOT YELLING, I AM ABOUT AS LAID BACK AS YOU COULD GET.

On one trip to WDW, we had someone take a full bottle of water out of our stroller's cup-holder. They either thought they were taking it out of their own stroller or decided they were very thirsty. :rotfl:

We never leave anything of value in an unattended stroller and always lock our in-room valuables in the safe or in our luggage. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I left a pair of prescription sunglasses in a bathroom at MK. We checked lost and found every day of our trip, but they were never turned in.

My daughter left her purse in the movie theater at DTD. When we came back to collect it from lost and found, the cash was missing from her wallet, but some gift cards she had received for her birthday were still there.

Biggest loss was a cell phone. Reported to lost and found and never showed.

I did have a necklace lost on the Poly beach found and send to me after I left though!

We've lost a zillion hats, some of which have been reported to lost and found and some that haven't - none have shown up.

Can we please stay on the theft subject.... :thumbsup2
