The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

Does anyone have a recommendation or opinion on what are the better standard rooms, or even pool rooms? I have heard some awful stories about views of the truck loading areas, and would like to avoid this, if possible. Savanna view sounds great, but too expensive for this trip, so I'd like to get the next best thing, since we are planning on taking it slow and enjoying the resort as much as park-touring.

Also, it is typically booked to capacity in June, does anyone know?

I'm planning our second trip to WDW for June. First trip was Sep 08 at the Poly, and loved it! We dined at both Boma & Jiko on that trip, so I know we'll love AKL!

I would recommend to get a pool view and request a higher floor. The pool is lovely, these are the two different views we had so far:

Some of the pool views are obstructed by trees, therefore it's best to request a higher floor.

I think June will be very busy compared to September, so I would book as soon as possible. Also at the moment you can still get the 4+3 deal for June.

Happy new year to all.

Has anyone been to the Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar? Apparently it is next to Jiko but seems to have slipped of my radar when was last at AKL. Does anyone have any photos or information?

Many thanks all.

7 long months till our return!! :scared1:

We were just there in September and didn't see or hear anything about another lounge other than the one above BOMA - I think it was called Victoria Falls? It was nice and relaxing after a long day at the parks.....:confused3

That might be the bar inside Jiko. :goodvibes

I have never heard of this bar and just did a search on Google. You are right, it is supposed to be right next to Jiko - and very tiny. I wonder wether the area at the entrance to Jiko was planned as a bar, but hasn't be used as such in some years. It looks like a seperate area in the front, but I have seen people dining there, I think. Pleas try to find it and come back to tell us all about it! :goodvibes

I think I remember the first time we went to Jiko's we had a drink before dinner. There was a very small seating area to the right of the podium, which could have been called the Cape Town Lounge.

Hi everyone! I just booked AKL for March 6-8 to celebrate my DH's birthday. We booked a standard room which should be just fine for us and our 1yr old. I'm soooooo excited because this is the first time we'll be staying deluxe!

traci, have a great stay at AKL! :goodvibes There are a number of activities for kids (and for adults) at AKL. The first ones that come to mind is a musical parade for the kids starting at the shop and the African story telling at the fireplace. For exact times it is best to check the boards in the lobby. The night vision goggles are not in the rooms, you have to go to the Uzima savanna lookout (behind the pool) where a cast member has them available.

Thank you so much!!

We are going in June for 10 nights at POP but I just rented points for ONE night at AKL (Studio Savannah View) for our 1st anniversary :cool1: Dbf is totally :lovestruc with AKL and is so excited!

Well, we just booked a trip for the first week in June -- AKL Savannah view. :goodvibes

I'm just wondering, though, if the AKV is going to have a major impact on AKL. Will it make it more busy? Will the pool be more crowded? Will they share buses?

I don't see the resort being that much more crowded because its basically its own resort. It will have its own pool, and I am not to sure about weather guests are able to share pools. More then likely the 2 resorts will share buses.

If we are sending a package down to the resort but are staying DVC is their anything special we need to put on the box????
Is the address on the first page of this thread?
Thanks

I'm staying on DVC points and just shipped a box down to the resort. The only thing extra I put on the box was our Reservation # and HOLD FOR the date of our arrival.
I've done this a couple times and the box has always been waiting for us at check-in. Super easy. :)

Sorry if this has already been asked but I don't want to comb through 50+ pages of thread... :confused3

Is there any way for a family of 5 to stay in one room? Or has the demise of the deluxe rooms completely ruled that out? For our next trip ... whenever that is... we really wanted to do the sunrise safari but not if we have to spread out over two club-level rooms. That could get really, really pricey - yikes!

We have an early (8am) ADR at Ohana's. I dont want the stress of trying to get a bus to TTC then hopping on the monorail to Poly. Thats alot of shuffling with 6 of us including our double stroller for our 2 and 4 year olds. We plan on doing MK that day so taking the mono from poly to MK is no biggie. Its just that first leg for our ADR's. How easy/difficult is it to get a taxi? Do we need to pre-arrange this with concierge the night before?

Thanks!

We did this many times of our early morning ADR's and one of those was to Ohana's (and also shopping days in Orlando). We did not book a taxi, there were always plenty (well there was always two waiting) and usually a van type too, just waiting right outside the front doors, we just walked out and hopped into the taxi.

Same here. We usually reserve about $100 for taxis because it's such a time saver. And time is money at WDW! There's always a cab sitting out front, but make sure you find out the rate up front or just take Yellow cab. It costs anywhere from $15-20, not including tax, to get anywhere.

taxis are great for resort-resort travel. If you want, you can give bell services (or was it valets?) a call from your room and they will arrange to have a taxi waiting for you. This might be better for you than just showing up as you will need a van, not a normal taxis for 6 persons.

Yep, this world is made for families of 4. Thanks for the tip about calling down. I think thats the way we'd do it as I like knowing everything is in order and my day will run smooth! This day at disney is extra special as our oldest DD will be 13 on this day. She is my first born. Very bitter sweet knowing she has entered the teen years. She was just 5 and in pigtails....time flies!!princess:
