Tyler,

How often are the CM's at Pop Century able to accomodate guest's room location requests? I will probably be arriving with requests of my own (near a large parking lot, facing away from heavy guest traffic areas, 4th floor) but I don't want cause trouble and hassle for the CM's at check-in. When is the best time to make location requests? At the time the reservation is made, a few days prior to arrival or at check-in? I just read your previous post and am thinking building 7 might be good for us.

If you have reservations for "Preferred" buildings, and paid the extra $10 per night, then you will be placed in the 60s. The 60s are the "Preferred" buildings because of thier close proximity to Classic Hall.

Is there anywhere that I can download a map of Pop Century? Since I've never been and I will be there without Dh for a few days, I would like to familiarize myself ahead of time.

They try as hard as they can to accomodate everyones wishes, but unfortunetly, it cannot always be done. Those guests with true needs (ie: medical) will always get accomodated before those with wishes and requests.

The Preferred buildings are the 60's buildings... so, if you've paid for them, then you WILL get the 60s.

going to PC in april and can hardly wait sorry if this has been answered already, but there are getting to be an awful lot of pages here to read i remember reading that there are no hair dryers. can you request one? if so, is there a good chance of getting one? i can't do without one but hate to take up the space in my suitcase if i don't have to, i want to make sure i have room left for all those souveniers i seem to acquire while on my trip

As for hair dryers, they are available upon request. Just touch Housekeeping on your phone to request one.

A lot of people have posted questions about room requsts. Here is my experience. We arrived during MLK weekend when the PC was completely booked. We had requested a non-smoking standard room with 2 dbl beds, a crib and in the 70s section. When we arrived we were given a room in the 80s which turned out to be a King handicapped room (no bathtub) and no crib. We are a family of 4 with 2 small children. When I called the front desk to let them know there had been some mistake since I had reserved a room with 2 dbl beds not a King, I was informed that I was only guarenteed a room - not any specific type of room. The fact that I had four people and only one bed did not seem to be an issue in their eyes. I was told that I could change rooms the next day but that I would need to stay in my room tonight. After much discussion I was told that they would bring up a crib and a rollaway for my son. Two hours later (10PM) I had the crib but still no rollaway - I was later informed at the front desk that PC does not have rollaways.

My first night at PC was a complete disaster. We stayed up until close to midnight waiting for the rollaway which never came, with my DS in tears because he was overtired and didnt get his bath which is part of his nightly bedtime ritual. He spent half the night crying that he wanted to go home - not the way I had intended to start our trip - especially since it was a present for his 3rd birthday.

I was finally given a room the next afternoon that met my original request - 2 dbl beds, a bathtub (never thought I actually needed to request one), non-smoking and in the 70s section. We did have to call back again when we got to our second room to get a crib sent up but this one at least came before my daughters bedtime.

We did have a good time at PC after our room problems were resolved. However the start of our trip has left me wondering if I should stay at any Disney resort during a busy time of year. When I reserve a room months in advance I expect to get something that is adequate for my situation. I would have thought that if they couldnt provide me with an adequate room because they were overbooked that they would be responsible for finding me a room somewhere else that met my requirements. I dont think that two beds and a bathtub are too much to ask.

BethnBurke, I think you might have a case there. I would have to look up the hotel occupancy rules and such, and maybe someone else here on the boards is more of an expert on those things, but I have a feeling that it's at least against Disney policy, if not against Florida hotel occupancy rules, to place a family of four in a room with one bed. King usually means occupancy limit of 2 adults and one child in a crib I would think. I think if something like that happens again, I would stand my ground and demand another room, even if it means changing resorts. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but if the room has 4 occupants listed, it shouldn't be considered just a request, like non-smoking or a particular view. Can someone else either confirm or deny this? Tyler, have they trained you for the front desk, would you know?

I can't really comment on this particular situation because I don't know all of the details, but under normal situations this would not be acceptable, and all of the managers that I work with would agree with me.

I have many more points of view, especially on the Call Center's lack of guest service (what you get if you press Front Desk on your phone)... but I cannot really say them on this public forum.

I stumbled on the site about 5 hours ago and have read every posting (all 39 pages) I was so engrossed by eveything I was reading that I did not realize the time. great thread!!

This is my first time ever on a message board so please forgive me if a make an error.

My question is this- I have just booked PC for April 23-27, 2 connecting rooms in the preferred section. During this time it will be my daughters 18th birthday and my sons 13th birthday! Is there anything I can pre-arrange as a special surprize for them at PC?

Hi Lynn55, welcome to the DISboards!!

What type of "pre-arranged special surprise" did you have in mind? While we were there last week, I did see the cast members of the food court singing "Happy Birthday" to a table that was celebrating. I also saw a cast member delivering birthday flowers to another room.

Sooo many people celebrate birthdays at WDW that unless you're staying at one of the deluxe resorts (usually with concierge service) there isn't a whole lot of options to choose from.

There are outside companies that will come in and do anything you want for a price. One has Pixie Dust in its name, but I have no other info. Looked one time, saw pricess, didn't bookmark it....

When you go into your first park go to Guest services and tell them it is who evers birthday. You will be given a badge for them to wear and they might get a little attention from CM's when they see it.

Someone on another board had a question about what can be seen from Pop Century. He heard that you can see Spaceship Earth, Planet Hollywood, the Cirque tent, the Swan and Dolphin, and other things from Pop Century. Any of this true? Is there anything that can be seen from Pop Century other than the occasional fireworks?
