Is the parking situation getting better? That is what worries me the most since we plan to use our rental car to drive to the parks. We will have our 13 month old with us and remember our childless days watching poor parents dragging strollers, diaper bags and tired kids on those packed buses. We want to avoid that but at the same time driving around and around a full parking lot trying to find an empty parking space doesn't sound too appealing to me either.

Yes, it has been, and will continue to get better. They've already added around 300 spaces to the 50s/60s lot, to help that out.

In regards to the 70s, 80s, and 90s... Most of that issue was because people weren't parking where they were supposed to be parking. We're re-arranging the setups a bit to hopefully alleviate that. The current 70s lot will become the 90s lot, and the 80s/90s lot will become the 70s and 80s lot. Once this change around happens, things will even out, and should be a LOT better, provided that people park where they should be parking.

Smart move on the parking..although we are in the 70's building right now and have already started parking in the 80/90..not only because it's closer to our room..but because the 70's parking is filled..which is surprising considering the resort doesn't seem to be very crowded yet. They tell us it will be this weekend. I am happy we didn't get the 90's building. I know Tyler you said it was a close walk from all the rooms, but I think I'd disagree with you there..we walked it today, and it was a hike to the lobby LOL! Believe me, with all the food we have eaten, we needed the hike.

I did find a big negative for us last night. The pillow!! It's way too fat, which I'm sure is because it's new. They sent us up a couple of feather pillows (they said sorry..it's all we had that weren't big and fat..since they are all new). It was like sleeping on a round bolster. But I consider that a small problem. I'm not thrilled with the room temp..I find 68 sort of hot, but I understand why they are doing it, and it's liveable..at least for this time of year.

The people at this resort are the friendlest I think I have found at any of the resorts. Guests services is wonderful..and one of hte gals in the cafeteria, noticed my DisBoard green (glad someone did!), and I mentioned Tyler..and I think he would blush at all the nice things she had to say about him, I guess she trained you when you were a student at Disney.

I love being in a non smoking building..and so far no on ehas been smoking out on the walkways outside the rooms. In fact this is the first time I've been at Disney, where I didn't notcie much smoking at all at the resort..so I ssume the smoking is being donw in the smoking room areas,
I really enjoyed sitting on a bench watching the ducks on the lake (reminded me a lot of POR)..although I did give some people walking the wonderful path a laugh..I had on my walkman, and apparently I was singing along..they found it amusing. I was at the pool soaking up the rays, but some guy was snoring so loud (relaxing place), I decided to move to the river bench.

I am curious..Tyler, I see the main building at the end of the bridge to no where..are there plans to continue the building?

All in all, I'm very pleased (as is my hubby) with this resort..we've walked all over it and it's just such a pleasure..I love that they have trees too! That will be great in the summer.

Oh, and I found the answer to the question about the frozen cokes. Yes, it's part of the beverages you get with your mugs..but right now, it's out of order!

It depends on how you go. If you go down the pathways, then it might be a slight walk. If you cut through the parking lot, and go as the crow flies, then it's not that far at all.

What you see are the Legendary Years. They will be 1900-1940, and will feature icons such as bottles of Coca-Cola, Crayola Crayons, radios, televisions, a Route 66 pool, and tons of other really cool things. I wish I could remember them all at this time...

Hey all....I'm new to the board and just wanted to say HI to everyone and give a big THANK YOU to Tyler for all of the info on Pop Century!!! This will be the first time my husband and I will be staying at an All-Star resort and we are so excited about it thanks to all of the info you've given on this board! Hopefully we'll get a chance to stop by and say Hi and Thank You to Tyler in person!

We're coming down from Maine which is in a deep freeze right now with daytime highs at or below zero! As you can imagine, we are also looking forward to a little sunshine and warm temperatures while we're there...any way we can add that to our reservation Tyler? :)

Just so you know, Pop Century isn't part of the All-Stars... :)

What you see are the Legendary Years.

Thanks Tyler, I know what is suppose to be there..but we've been told a few times on this trip, that they have no plans at this time to continue..maybe in the future. Have you heard if that is true, a rumor, or what? Are they building buildings yet? It was nice to breifly meet you in person Tyler : )

By the way, the parking lot way is shorter from the 90's, but prob not the safest LOL!

DMRick, can you please tell us about the food court?

I saw the lunch and dinner menus on Deb's site, wondering what the breakfast menu is like.

My son can't wait to try the tie dye cheese cake.
I'm looking forward to the apple cobbler.:bounce:

I had planned to be there this weekend to celebrate my 36th birthday, but put the trip off until April when we can stay longer. So now instead of spending the weekend checking out Pop, I'll be here dealing with the snow.:(

Enjoy your trip.:wave2:

That is what I would like to know as well.
What can you eat at breakfasttime at the foodcourt?
Maybe someone has a menu to post on this thread...
Or there must be people around here who can remember.
Tell us, we are curious::yes::

You're right Tyler...it was late when I wrote my post and I was really tired....I meant to say Value Resort and guess All-Star was stuck in my head seeing that I was just on the resorts page of the Disney website....

Anyway...Thanks for all of the great info so far...can't wait to see it all in person!

Thank you so much Tyler! You are a true gem to take so much of your free time to answer all of our questions about Pop Century. I hope my family of 3 has the chance to say "hi" and "thank you" to you in person the first week of May. One more question though.....The rooms really won't cool lower than 68 degrees? DH and I are very hot natured and tend to cool our hotel rooms lower than that while in WDW. We had trouble at the AKL in September 2002 and couldn't get our room cool enough.

Thinking about requesting the '50's section. Does anyone know if there are non-smoking rooms there?

Heidi, what part of Maine are you from?? It's not listed on your location...I live in northern Maine, Portage Lake, to be exact and today is the second day that school has been cancelled because of the cold... -65 below zero with the wind-chill!! I've never seen school cancelled because of cold weather. We can't wait to get to Florida either!! Just going to hate leaving when it's time to come home!

Pop Century will be such a welcome site!!

I myself am from New Hampshire... I found this quote from an MSN news article...

It was so cold in New Hampshire that workers at the Laconia Ice Co. used an unlikely place to warm up - their freezer. Manager Tom Rudzinski said the freezer is kept around 15 degrees, about 30 degrees warmer than it was outside in the parking lot at midmorning.

Tyler, I did read that same article yesterday!! That's too fun!! I looks like northern New Hampshire is getting hit with the same freezing temps as I am way up here--4.5 hour drive north of Portland, Maine!!!--45 minutes from the Candian in two different directions!!! My kids are so full of energy right now--when you step outside your Columbia jackets get all crackly sounding--almost like they're plastic!!! Now that's cold! We are so looking forward to Disney--it helps break up our winter... By the time we get back there's only a few more weeks of brutal weather then things start to ease up!!! :hyper:

Hey Susie Bee!!! We're just on the outskirts of Portland....luckily, the temps around here have been warmer than where you are....I think the temp yesterday was -35 with wind chill....and we were the warmest city in the state!

Even if the Orlando daytime temps are in the 40's and 50's (let's hope they aren't, but there were when we were there 3 years ago), it will still be a nice change for us! And it's Disney...you can still have fun and feel great even if the weather is chilly!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather for your trip Susie if you promise to do the same for mine...deal?

Hi, everyone - we are planning a trip to WDW in early March and due to less than cheap airfare for the 5 of us, we are thinking of getting 2 rooms at POP instead of a deluxe room. 2 rooms would be doable with our annual pass discount (cheaper than one deluxe!!).
I will still be healing from foot surgery and wearing a special shoe during our visit. Are non-preferred buildings that much further from the food court and busses than preferred??
Also, is it relatively easy to get 2 connecting rooms in the preferred section?
Thanks, Tyler, for any help!! :D

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I'm posting from the comfort of our Pop Century room! Wish you were here! We've been here a few nights and will be checking out this Sunday. We're in the 50s building and it is very close to the main building even though it is not a preferred building. We are on the 4th floor facing the pool and it takes us about a minute to get from our room to the food court or bus stops (give or take 5-10 seconds depending on the elevator). I would highly recommend the 50s building. But, like Tyler says, it's also fun to stay in the era that appeals to you most.

And to the poster who asked, there are non-smoking rooms available.

I'll try to answer the breakfast question the best I can. What I can remember off the top of my head:

Ham and Cheese Omelet
Cheese Omelet
Vegetable Fritata
Bagel Breakfast Sandwich
French Toast
Pancakes
Waffles
Scrambled Eggs
Bacon
Sausage
Breakfast potatos
Oatmeal
Cold Cereal
Bagels
Assorted Pastries
Biscuits
Assorted Fruits

Some of the above items can be purchased a la carte and there are also breakfast platters that include one or more sides (for example, one morning I ordered the Ham and Cheese Omelet which came with the potatos and a biscuit).

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but there is a great deal of variety and most of your basic breakfast items are available.

By the way, the Tie-Dyed Cheesecake is to DYE for! (sorry...couldn't resist!).

Thanks to Tyler and everyone whose advice is helping to make our stay more enjoyable!

To me, the breakfast menu seems to be just about what the menu is at the allstars. We ordered the same here, that we did there. If you check out the allstars menu, I think you'll get all your answers.

Hey Tyler..are the heaters outside the cafeteria new just to the POP? What a wonderful idea..they work great!! What is that Blast form the past blast of air, as you walk into the cafeteria? Is that to keep bugs out?

The frozen cola machine is back in business (one side anyway)..very wierd stuff!

Still wondering if they will continue building across the way..it looks so sad.

Hugabaloo..we're over in the 70's..and I'm wearing my pin with green ribbon...watch for us!
