Anyone ever rent a canoe while at the poly? I've never been in a canoe before but thought it might be fun to rent one while out there. Was it fun? Worth the money?

I don't think you can rent canoes at the Poly. I've never seen them anyway. Not sure it would be too safe with all of the motorized craft on the water.

Disneyworld.com lists it: Mikala Canoe Club Marina

Mikala Canoe Club Marina is located at the marina and offers watercraft rentals, including canoes, canopy boats, Sun Tracker pontoon boats, 14-foot Dual Hull sailboats, a 17-foot Boston Whaler Montauk Boat and Sea Raycers by Sea Ray

I dont think I've ever seen them, maybe they are new?

I have never seen canoes at the Poly either. I agree it would not be safe with all of the Sea Racers out there. It gets pretty scary out there as it is with a lot of inexperienced boaters.:scared1:

We're 9 days out from our 1st visit to the Poly too! I''m so excited I can hardly stand it!

And since I haven't done it yet here it comes...
:banana::dance3::woohoo::rockband::dancer:party:

I'm single digit dancing my hiney off, lol! 6 Days to our 1st AKL stay as well!

:cool1: Have a great trip. The Poly is awesome I am sure you will love it. I'll join you with my double digit dance.:dancer::dance3:

I've seen people canoeing by the Polynesian although I don't know if they were guests or CMs practicing for their races. Years ago, there was sometimes/always an outrigger canoe on the beach. Tess do you remember that? I think they still have that and use it for races.

My DH rented the Dual Hull sailboat years ago. He also took out either a sailfish or sunfish (little sailboat) but that was also quite a few years ago now and I don't see that listed.

Just paid the balance on our August vacation!!! Yeah poly time! :woohoo:Now all I have to do is count down.popcorn::

I am just about to call to pay our balance too:headache: Oh well get the pain of it over so I can enjoy the real countdown. I hauled out the suitcase yesterday so I can just keep it under the bed and start throwing things in as I come across thme. My daughter just went:sad2: and said it is too early for that. Never too early!

OK, I posted this elsewhere too.

For Father's Day/ birthday gifts, I got my husband and 11 year old son the Magic of Steam Engines tour at the MK. In the wake of last week's accident, that tour has been cancelled-- they need the Roundhouse to house the monorails during the accident investigation. Disney was completely professional in cancelling the tour, refunding our money, and offering a replacement tour.

The problem is that none of the remaining tours for which they're elligible look nearly as good.

Is there anything at the Poly that might stand in as a replacement gift? I'm not looking for freebies from Disney, just a gift for my 49 year old husband and 11 year old son.

My wife and I did the "Keys to the Kingdom Tour" at the Magic Kingdom last year and we absolutely loved it. A guide takes you around the Magic Kingdom and explains the history and the meaning of certain areas of the park. It really encomapasses the Disney Magic. You also get to go into the backstage areas. here is a link that tells you all about the tour with reviews. There are also other tours reviewed here. Hope it works out for you. Keep in mind there is alot of walking involved. :wizard:

It is a great tour, but your son will be too young. There is a minimum age for that tour.

My DH and DS12 are doing the Aqua Seas Tour together in August. She is so excited about swimming in the Living Seas. I know it's not right there at the Poly, but it might be something to look into.

Yes, I do remember and, in fact, there were groups racing the outriggers when we were there in May. They were racing in the early morning hours on a couple of days (the early part of the vacation when it wasn't raining). Perhaps those are the "canoes" that could be rented.

Other than the outriggers, I've never seen any other canoes.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

At the moment, I'm thinking of skipping the complimentary tour and sending the boys to Disney Quest instead, at least if I can't get the Sunrise Safari.

The Aqua Seas tour sounds great, but the tour I booked was 1/3 the price of that. I wouldn't feel right taking that as compensation for them dropping the Train Tour, especially in view of the reason they dropped it.

The money they refunded on the Train Tour can cover Disney Quest, and I'll call it a day.

Just found this thread and can't wait to read it!

We had to postpone our trip we were planning for next April (we're going to be building a new house- so it is a good reason to postpone!!) but since we are postponing- my DH has promised that we can go again May 2011 and stay at the Poly!!!:cool1: So, I will wait and read up on all things Poly!! We have always wanted to stay here so it will be so great!!

I think you may have seen the races in which Polynesian CMs challenge other teams. I've seen a winner's plaque behind the front desk.

I did see a group in a regular canoe one time, too. I know there are a series of canoe races around Tom Sawyer's Island every year for CMs and wondered if the group I saw was practicing for that or if it was guests who had rented the canoe.

:goodvibes Who's going next and can ask about canoe rentals? :surfweb:

Is anyone there now - or going soon? And willing to check out the gift shop? OR maybe remembers from being there before.....approx how much is it to get a Poly OR Disney coffee mug? I'd love to get a souvinere to remind me EACH morning of my Disney trip - so wondering approx how much to plan on for me and hubby to get mugs! (Or if they have Travel Mugs, that's cool too!)

Any resort wear. As soon as I get there I want to head straight to the Boutiki and get some resort wear! :yay:

..Another mug question. We are staying club level so we won't need refillable mugs. We have our old Poly refillable mugs from a couple of years ago which we use all the time at home. Do you think it would be okay to bring them with us to use to put our soda in from the lounge to take to the pool, room etc. No intention of getting refills at Captain Cooks , but don't want to encounter the rath of the mug police if we are seen with our old mugs:scared1:
