After reading the points posts, it got me thinking. We have not even used our DVC yet (first DVC trip this May), however, so many people here have added on, I have some questions:

1. How long after your original purchase did you add on?
2. Did you add on at a different resort? Why? (if answered yes)
3. What were the reasons for your add on?

Thanks - although the bug has not bitten me yet, I cant say that it never will.

We tried to get VWL but lost a resale to ROFR. We bought at BWV in Sept. 03, using Magical Beginnings, which made the price within our budget, and we didn't have any WDW trips planned until '04. Almost immediately, we began thinking of WL. Years ago, when we were guests there, we saw the villas being built, and we thought how lucky some people would be to own something there, never thinking that we could be those people. Now we realized that our kids were on their own, college expenses were over, we have a few years before retirement so we still had time to make a discretionary purchase for our benefit, and our guests. So, we added on 50 points before the deed at BWV was even recorded, and since there was no MB for the 50 points, we tagged a weekend stay in December onto a Caribbean cruise that we had planned. It was wonderful going Home, we heard Welcome Home. We are very happy with the Epcot location of Boardwalk, and have no regrets over that purchase. The standard view ressies that I just made for 5 rooms for 4 nights before Christmas this year would have cost a lot more in other places.

Because a weekend stay worked best with the cruise vacation, we were able to get the studio ressies at VWL at less than 2 months out, we even had 4 points to bank!

Maybe you'll have an add on story to tell someday!

Hello - I added on twice in the first year...original contract was for 252 and then at 6 months I added on another 100 and then at one year I added on another 100. We own at the Beach Club Villas, and I love the location and theme. We realized we wanted to bring all 5 grandchildren and their parents so we needed more points. I still have the addon bug, bit I don't have the money. I keep spending it for vacations. Sandie

We started with 230 at OKW in 1999. Then after our 1st visit we added on 70 more to give us 300 at OKW.

In 2001 we added on 100 at VB without even seeing VB. But after staying there in early in late 2001 we got hooked. So we added on 200 more at VB because of the Beach Cottages.
Now that my sister just moved to West Palm Beach 4 weeks ago, I am glad we did since she is only 1 hr away from VB.

So we now have 300 at OKW and 300 at VB. We like having the 11 month window on WDW property(OKW) and ocean front(VB).
We also have 2 kids that will have the use of 300 pts each if they choose to do so, if we are not around

P.S. Forgot to add that 4 brothers and sisters of mine are also DVC members (HH,OKW,BCV Home resorts) so we get GV's and Beach Cottages and get together with combined pts at least every other yr.

3. What were the reasons for your add on?

1) The very next day.

2) We eventually added-on at Vero Beach. We wanted the 11 month window for the busy times, and the Beach Cottages. We wanted more total points anyway, so it made sense to add at VB.

3) We wanted enough points for multiple trips per year, without having to worry about weekends. We also wanted enough points for a 2br villa, as we anticipated lots of guests.

We have 6 contracts, but we actually added-on about 9 times. At one point we were adding-on so fast that the new paperwork had not arrived yet. That paperwork was voided, and new paperwork was sent.
Our last contract is .009! :p

1. We added on another 100 points before we closed on the original purchase (200), so our first two deeds are dated about 12 days apart!

2. Our first add was at the same resort. We're now in the process of adding on (100) at VWL, because we really like to split our stays between BCV and VWL... and as we all say on this board "buy where you want to stay!"

3. Our first add on was because we started planning and ran out of points, so we added points. Now we still don't feel that we have quite the right number of points, so we're adding again, plus getting 11 mo. priority at VWL, which we think will be very important for us to have. I think that 400 points will be a good number for us, but ask me again in a couple of years ;) .

1. We added on about a year after the original purchase.

2. Our original purchase was at VWL through Disney. Our "add-on" purchase was at BWV through resale. We stayed at BWV and decided that is was great, and so different from VWL that we felt almost like we had a completely different vacation experience. We purchased at the second resort to enable the 11 month window there.

3. We purchased a resale contract for almost exactly the same amount of points as our original contract. We bank one set of points each year, and borrow on the other, so we're making our reservations at the 11 month mark with two years worth of points from the same place.

The other, main reason for our add-on was to enable us to have enough points for a 2BR for our vacations. It really has put us into a great vacation mode with the kids each having their own bed, and plenty of space.

I'll be the first to admit that it's a great luxury to have so many points. But we decided to do this rather than some other purchases because of our emphasis on quality family vacations.

1) We bought original contract in Dec. 01 and added on in Apr. 02
So approx. 4 mos.

2) We purchased at WLV both contracts

3) DVC sales called and told us that prices would be going up
soon as BCV were being sold at a rapid pace. We never even
visited WLV. Since prices were going up, we thought it would
make since to go ahead and get the extra pts while we could
at our home resort. Those pts were still available also during
our use year. The pts would also allow us a 2 bed for 1 week
a year if we wanted to take extended family.

I will say this about adding on: be careful before you let the emotions take over. We came real close to adding on again because we felt that we werent going to be able to go at all according to pts left this year. DVC had us borrowing pts from 05 that it turns out we didnt need. DVC MS admitted that we didnt need to borrow those pts after all. They were willing to place those pts back into 05 use year.
Bottom line: Have DVC fax you an update of your contract(s) after each use. This will help you to keep up with whats going on. It is a little tough to read but once you figure out their system its not that bad.
