Wasn't on much over the week-end - and haven't caught up on this, so my lost message may have already been found. But if not - it was message 396 on pg 27. I "whited" my answer on that one, so scrolling through you would not see my guess. I think on that first letter nobody else whited theirs.

That one was a freebie for me since I had just uploaded my pictures of that same sign just minutes before.....I haven't had a clue on the ones that have come since, so I figured I better hang on to the one did get.

Hey, my Peeps! I AM here, just have overbooked myself today- (on top of the Zumba and Zach's parent-teacher conference I've already been to) with continued costume making, dinner for friends, house cleaning, AND the mother of all presentations we will be giving to our fellowship as a wrap up of the last 10 years of our ministry in Central Asia. I see PowerPoint and zippers in my immediate future.

Caught up yet?? I am impressed!! When I get behind, I get pretty lax in the chit-chat; I've been busted more than once for (gasp!) skimming.

Nope I wasn't first. I didn't know you had added a letter to guess until I saw a couple posts after mine where people were guessing and I had to go back and reread your update to find out what they WERE guessing!!! You snuck it in on me, so I put my answer in my earlier post but it was definitely after one or two others had already submitted their answers.

I thought so... The wine I had with dinner is softening the guilt I feel over that loss of sensitivity to your competitiveness...

You told me about this when we met and I remember that I have read it before as well and loved it, too! We have so many churches which are architectural masterpieces which are filled with incredible art all over Europe and I am always very sad when these places are treated just as a museum, which they are not, they are at first places of worship! And they ought to be treated as such from visitors, even if they don't believe, I think it is important to show respect. Unfortunately many people don't get this. And I think this is a lovely way to remind visitors of the nature of the place they are entering.



The display has been there for a long time and I think it is very important - it's title is in English: "A monument for peace" - saying that a rebuilt church should always remind people of how important it is to prevent anything like WW II happening again. The pictures can be seen here, just click on "weiter" to get to the next picture.

St Sebald is also a "Cross of Nails Center" - an idea which originated from Coventry, a city in the UK which was destroyed by German bombs (the first European city to be destroyed in that way), and at the cathedral there they made a cross from the nails used in the roof as a sign of reconcillation and peace. I just found there website, where it is explained much better here.



Unfortunately no longer the original one. But Nuremberg in general is a center for organ music and has an international organ music festival every year. St Sebald was one of the places where the composter Johann Pachelbel was working and writing his music.



I still haven't found out about it! I need to ask my father or go on a guided tour of the church myself! But I promise that I will find out and post about it!

This is the grave of St Sebald, the patron saint of the church. Since Nuremberg was an independent city, all the art was donated by the citizens and therefore even after reformation, when the city became Lutheran, they kept all the art from before.

WOW!!! This is amazing stuff!! I just read out loud all your remarks to the family (by our nice evening fire) and they were just completely absorbed by the history and detail you add to our visit which continues to give us enjoyment even today! We still talk about all we saw and smelled and heard and felt while there!! THANKS!!!

On our way from Amsterdam to the Rhine we made a stop in Colonge to see the cathedral! It was amazing! I wish I could figure out how to upload a picture here I would post some!



Thank you Magalena for enlighting us on the history of the church! I love history. And I love Johann Pachelbel! I walked down the isle to Canon In D as I am sure many others have as well! But I didn't not know of his ties to Nuremburg! This really makes me want to come back now!

The other thing I remember from our visit to Cologne was the sausages and fries we had nearby! YUM!!

Hmmmm..... I think on Photobucket (if that's the site you're using) there is an option somewhere (I recall it being a bit tricky to find) to change the size you want them uploaded in. I also think that you can re-size them in the edit option??

VERY beautiful!! And so intricate. I heard over and over- both down in the wine casements and on the churches that the acid rain and air is slowly and NOT so slowly eating away at these beauties. Sad.
