The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Hi Liesa! I've been a little distracted lately, but thinking about you. Yay for 88%! Nicely done!

It looks like meeting up in the world is a no go, but I will be up your way in August! DSIS has rented a beach house at Lincoln City in August for a family celebration of our dad"s 8th BDay. Jim's parents have moved to Salem, so we will be splitting our time between their place and the beach. Maybe we can finale a little coffee time....

We have our rooms booked at DLR for Christmas with the kiddos here, so that is our vacation time for this year.

I've been distracted too, Tammie! LOL! No worries- we all get here when we can.

Thanks! Now onto the Final. I need a 95% to get an A, but like last term, that likely ain't gonna happen. And that's ok! C's make degrees, as they say.

COOLIO!! I'd LOVE to see you and have coffee! I will absolutely be sure to make time to hang out with you for sure. August will be pretty open, even if I have a new job, there will be some time to get together.

Sad you won't be in FL, but DLR is fun too and sharing it with kids is always a nice treat.

Congrats on passing another exam! Too funny with another 88. I think I can see light at the end of the tunnel...and it might not be a train!

It is funny! If they can't say anything else, they can't say I'm not consistent. LOL! I see that light too... onto the Final- 95% or bust!

And I just noticed my ticker....

Exactly 7 months from today!

7 Dancing Bananas for that!

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Great then in 3 days as in on Sunday my birthday I will be 7 months out which means only a month to adrs !!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: Any tips on when to call to get BOG for supper for 10 ??????:confused3

Steppesister, Dec 22, 2014

The start of this thread... And now only 7 months to go.

I warned you it'd be a marathon. It's about WAY more than just a PTR, it's a freakin' Death March through Nursing School. And then a Board Exam, and then job interviews. And then the "fun" of the first months of a new job.....

(Do you have any idea how much I appreciate those who've stuck it out?)

Great then in 3 days as in on Sunday my birthday I will be 7 months out which means only a month to adrs !!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: Any tips on when to call to get BOG for supper for 10 ??????:confused3

WAHHHOOOOTY!

I'd say hop online at exactly 6:00 AM on your day, and see what happens. I'll be online at 3:00 AM for mine on the 13th.

YAY!! That WILL be super fun! Yosemite is a very beautiful place (@Flossbolna is doing a lovely TR from her recent trip there) with nice hikes and places to visit. But, you better work on some trip tenets STAT!

Yeah, I think we'll need to work out our own personal trip tenets! This is also making me lean towards the "get up early Saturday morning" strategy to avoid the crazy holiday weekend traffic. I really don't need to start the weekend with a grumpy hubby!

Amazing picture! And congrats on hitting that 7 month mark! It will be here before we know it.......... :yay:

Z is for Wi Z ards and Zealous Planning

Here we are, the end of yet another Round of Planning by the Alphabet. It took a ridiculous 15 months to get here (as @pkondz so neatly pointed out) and we have 7 long months to go. I'm not sure whether I should be gleeful or just sit down and cry. On the one hand, I've come so far. On the other, 7 months is a long way to go. For all of you, and certainly for myself.

However, to keep us all entertained (a stretch, I know!) or at least fill the time with more drivel, here are a few things to look forward to:

Snacks
Adult Drinks
Fine tuning of the BFP
Planning books and spreadsheets
How to Pack- SteppeStyle
DISMeet Stuffs
Appropriate Touring Attire
Top 10s for... Everywhere
ADR picks
Door/Window Decorations
Mousekeeping Tip Envelopes
Photographing

(I actually think I've mentioned that before, but I'm too lazy to go back and find it. So that was mostly for my own reference.)

Anyhow, time to get to the business of this update (which is infinitely better than the business of the aftermath of the Indian food that you'll see in a moment. Not the aftermath. The food. You're welcome.).

Last night my girls and I were treated to a magical evening complements of my generous Christmas gift to us. This was our 6th Annual Girls Only Dinner and Broadway Night. In the past, we've enjoyed Broadway Divas, Lion King, Phantom, Wicked, and last night... Wizard of Oz. (Yes, I can count, I think one year we watched Les Mis on screen, so it doesn't count as Broadway, sort of.)

Because my eldest daughter has a pretty heavy work schedule, we weren't able to leave Salem until 4:00 making it a little tight in getting a nice, leisurely dinner in before getting to the 7:30 showing. Of course, getting the day off didn't cross her mind despite knowing for months. I suppose she was born blonde for a reason. :sigh: But, somewhat gussied up and ready to paint the town, we left right at 4:00. We had not even gotten 6 miles from our house when we knew Providence was shining down on us when we saw this:

FullSizeRender (2).jpg

Not a spectacular photo by any means, but the moment did serve to prompt 4 women to burst into "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" spontaneously and loudly. The evening was off to a perfect start.

The rest of the hour and 15 minute drive was filled with happy conversation, singing to the radio, and successfully navigating the oftentimes frustrating city traffic. I'm happy to report I did not crash, miss any of my exits, or spill another cup of coffee in the car.

We found the restaurant and the nearest parking lot, and piled out. We were hungry and ready to devour a mess of Indian food from the East India Company, a place we'd gone to on our 2nd Annual Night Out. I had wanted to do the Melting Pot, but I knew we wouldn't have time for that- perhaps another night sometime later this summer. At this point, I'd forgotten to do something very, VERY important. Remember that.

Here is a menu cover. Because that's what DISsers do. What TR would be complete without the needless addition of menu covers?

We were quickly seated and asked if we'd like to start with something to drink. Only my oldest is over 21, but she doesn't drink much ever. On the other hand, my 20 year went on a lengthy rant that she can buy a rifle, drive, procreate (she's WAY too focused to even think about a relationship, let alone entertain the thought of that), and vote, but can't have a cocktail with her mom. My own opinion (since this is my thread and can not only opine with redundant excess, but can also invite you to as well) is that this is an absurd Americanism which neither has any intended benefit or helps parents teach moderation at the time and age they feel is appropriate for their own children. (Which is why if they'd like a sip or 2 of wine at special occasions they are certainly welcome to in our own home.) Sorry, I'll try to stay focused now...

Where was I?

I ordered a Tamarind Ginger Something or Rather which was.... odd. The first few sips were ok, but it was a bit spicy and WAY too syrupy-sweet. I didn't even finish it. In fact, about 4 sips in, it was apparent it didn't even have any booze in it, or very little. Such a waste. The server suggested some Lassis for the "kids" which are a mango and yogurt smoothie type thing, and were actually pretty good. I should have gotten one with rum added.

IMG_1596.JPG

Sorry, the messy glass is kinda gross. But see the cracker behind it there? For a little amuse bouche they brought out a basket of these savory little beauties and 2 dipping sauces to munch and crunch while we waited. They were flavored with coriander seeds and super yummy.

We took a bit of time perusing the menus:

IMG_1592.JPG

IMG_1593.JPG

Horrible pictures. Just scroll by them. ;)

We decided on:

Vindaloo with veggies- the spiciest curry they have on the menu:

IMG_1597.JPG

Korma with Chicken (medium):

IMG_1598.JPG

And Kerala Masala with Lamb (spicy):

IMG_1599.JPG

It was fantastalicious!! Every bite. It was spicy, and I knew I'd be in trouble the next day. But I threw caution to the wind and ate my fill.... but not too much. My daughters reminded me in time that the last time we were there, I had a pretty strong drink, and ate WAY too much spicy food and ended up with a gallbladder attack during the show and basically suffered for 2 hours in a theater seat. Only borderline worth it. If you've had gall bladder issues, you understand. If not, imagine plucking your own fingernails out and then dipping them in acid- that would come close.

IMG_1587.JPG IMG_1589.JPG

we began to make our way to the theater. I had printed off directions to the venue which wasn't too far. We made a stop to stash the leftovers in the car, and just at the edge of the lot we came across a little handpurse. Huh! Someone must have dropped it, and not too long ago. It wasn't wet. Not much isn't wet in Oregon for very long. We picked it up and started to look for some ID and within a few seconds found a business card. Luckily, my phone still had some battery and I called the number on it. "Patty" answered and was only 1 block away. YAY!!!!!! She was very grateful and thanked us, and we continued on our way. About halfway there, it struck me that I had once again forgotten something very important. But I wasn't turning back because: 1) I had high heels on and, 2) something looked very ominous as we approached the theater. I can't think of one single time a theater was dark and the doors weren't opened half an hour before curtain. Huh. That's weird.

Well, crap. Nursing Student Brain was in full control when I printed out my directions and here we are. At the wrong place. GREAT.

Ok, quick! Who still has battery and internet? Bek did, so she fired up Google Maps and let us know that we had 15 blocks to walk. In the rain. And high heels. And it was 7:10.

We made it in time, and were thrilled to have seats 7 rows back. Best seats we've EVER gotten- to the EXTREME right, but that would prove to be the most amazing seats for this particular play as well.

Without prognosticating too terribly much, let me just say, it was an amazing production. The special effects were unreal, especially the tornado scene. The voices were incredible as always, and there aren't many things I enjoy more than a live orchestra. It very closely followed the traditional scripting, blocking, and music with a few added jokes and 2 extra songs. Toward the end of play, we suddenly heard the Witch's voice BEHIND us! Not 2 rows back in the aisle 3 seats over, she appeared to make threats to the "Citizens of Oz" (the Audience). My youngest nearly wet herself with excitement over this close encounter. It was magical to see the pure joy on her face during the entire show and squeeze my hand at every cool effect, song, or dance. Memories like that don't happen every day.

I also did not take any pictures. I generally follow the rules and we were told not to.

We left with it still misting, but it wasn't too bad to make the 15 block trek back. I briefly contemplated hailing a cab, but I'm also a bit of a tightwad, so didn't. I also knew that there was going to be an unpleasant and expensive ending to the evening. Have any of you guessed what other costly mistake Nursing School Brain made last night? There tucked neatly under the wiper, in all it's rude glory, was my parking ticket. I wasn't going to just leave without paying. But I'm sure they hear that all day long and more. Ah well.... I added an extra $44 bucks to the festivities.

I wanted to add more to this update that was directly Disney Planning related, but I have to go get dressed. I promised to take NariLoo to the paint your own pottery place for a couple of hours. She's been having a really hard time in school. A long story, but I've got a pretty sad teen who simply hates school and was recently betrayed rather harshly by someone she thought was her best friend.

It's also a perfect way, in addition to writing updates, to procrastinate on studying for my Final. I will probably regret the utter waste of my day in that area, but it has been good to feel somewhat engaged here too.

Love to each of you,

Steppe

it's a freakin' Death March through Nursing School.

Tell us how you really feel.

(Do you have any idea how much I appreciate those who've stuck it out?)

Nope. And I'm outta here. Bye!

Oh... fine. I'll stick around a bit longer.

Here we are, the end of yet another Round of Planning by the Alphabet.

Next chapter. AA is for Aardvark!
Don't ask me what you're going to talk about.
Maybe we should change it to AA is for Aargh... Pirates!

I'm not sure whether I should be gleeful or just sit down and cry.

Be gleeful. Would you rather be at the 15 months ago position?

However, to keep us all entertained (a stretch, I know!)

Go Liesa! Go Liesa! Go Liesa!

which is infinitely better than the business of the aftermath of the Indian food that you'll see in a moment.

Oh, dear Lord...

Not the aftermath. The food. You're welcome.

<Phew!!!> :scared:

Of course, getting the day off didn't cross her mind despite knowing for months.

No. Of course not. That would be silly.

I suppose she was born blonde for a reason.

 Wait! Let me guess. She got fired from her Quality Control job at the M&M factory for throwing out all the "M"s.

Not a spectacular photo by any means, but the moment did serve to prompt 4 women to burst into "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" spontaneously and loudly.

Oh. My. God.

Sooooo happy not to have been there. <shudder>

I'm happy to report I did not crash, miss any of my exits, or spill another cup of coffee in the car.

All good.
Except for that squirrel you ran over, of course.

I had wanted to do the Melting Pot,

A fondue place I presume?

At this point, I'd forgotten to do something very, VERY important. Remember that.

Oh, oh.

What TR would be complete without the needless addition of menu covers?

Ummm.... Never done that. I guess that's why mine go on forever.

my 20 year went on a lengthy rant that she can buy a rifle, drive, procreate

Wait.
She's going to buy a rifle, drive to some guy's place and force him to procreate???
What kind of kid are you raising there?

Where was I?

Dinner

I should have gotten one with rum added.

You could do that?

But see the cracker behind it there?

yes

Vindaloo with veggies- the spiciest curry they have on the menu:

Nope. pkondz is a baby when it comes to spicy.
I don't look manly with tears streaming down my face.

It was fantastalicious!! Every bite. It was spicy, and I knew I'd be in trouble the next day.

So.... worth it then.

My daughters reminded me in time that the last time we were there, I had a pretty strong drink, and ate WAY too much spicy food and ended up with a gallbladder attack during the show and basically suffered for 2 hours in a theater seat.

Ouch! That must've put a crimp into enjoying the show.

If you've had gall bladder issues, you understand.

Not me. Ruby had hers taken out, though.

If not, imagine plucking your own fingernails out and then dipping them in acid- that would come close.

So, not that bad then?

Pretty girls. Take after their mother obviously.

Lucky for her! But I'm sure anyone in the city would've done the same.

No? Yes?

She was very grateful and thanked us, and we continued on our way.

Better than my last similar experience. MIL found a cell phone. So I called the contacts on it, found out whom it belonged to and arranged for a pick up.
Not even a thanks.

About halfway there, it struck me that I had once again forgotten something very important. But I wasn't turning back because: 1) I had high heels on and, 2) something looked very ominous as we approached the theater.

Ah. And... uh, oh.

 No! :lmao:
I shouldn't laugh, but.... :lmao:

we had 15 blocks to walk. In the rain. And high heels. And it was 7:10.

You were on a mission. Ain't nuttin' stoppin' you.

Best seats we've EVER gotten- to the EXTREME right, but that would prove to be the most amazing seats for this particular play as well.

Do tell.

Toward the end of play, we suddenly heard the Witch's voice BEHIND us! Not 2 rows back in the aisle 3 seats over, she appeared to make threats to the "Citizens of Oz" (the Audience).

No way! Cool!

My youngest nearly wet herself with excitement over this close encounter.

:rotfl:

It was magical to see the pure joy on her face during the entire show and squeeze my hand at every cool effect, song, or dance. Memories like that don't happen every day.

Awwww.... :goodvibes

I also did not take any pictures. I generally follow the rules and we were told not to.

I should hope not! Enjoying the show or taking pictures. You can't really do both.

I also knew that there was going to be an unpleasant and expensive ending to the evening. Have any of you guessed what other costly mistake Nursing School Brain made last night?

No... You didn't...

I added an extra $44 bucks to the festivities.

You did. :sad2:

I wanted to add more to this update that was directly Disney Planning related, but I have to go get dressed.

You DIS in the nude?????

:faint:

I promised to take NariLoo to the paint your own pottery place for a couple of hours. She's been having a really hard time in school. A long story, but I've got a pretty sad teen who simply hates school and was recently betrayed rather harshly by someone she thought was her best friend.

Oh, I know that story. Just lived through another episode of it a month or so ago.
Girls... I don't know why they're so evil, but they are.

It's also a perfect way, in addition to writing updates, to procrastinate on studying for my Final. I will probably regret the utter waste of my day in that area, but it has been good to feel somewhat engaged here too.

You need to stop and breathe once in a while too, you know.

Absolutely adored that Hummingbird pix !!!I am sorry you got a parking ticket an a 15 block walk each way, but you enjoyed the show and apparently the food !! I cant handle spicy at all!!However I did love restaurant in Disney that I can't remember the name !! we had Naan bread and dips which I liked several of them !!

I'll stick around a bit longer.

Only a little?

Be gleeful. Would you rather be at the 15 months ago position?

Well, no. Not exactly. But 7 months is about how long my first pregnancy was. Seemed like forever.

Oh. My. God.

Sooooo happy not to have been there. <shudder>

So you're saying it would've been only slightly better than a spin on IaSW?

Except for that squirrel you ran over, of course.

He was in the way.

A fondue place I presume?

Yes, cheese for 1st Course, Broth for 2nd and choco for dessert.

I guess that's why mine go on forever.

So, kinda like mine at 22 months. I don't know what I was thinking... ants in my pants I guess.

She's going to buy a rifle, drive to some guy's place and force him to procreate???
What kind of kid are you raising there?

She's a smart, beautiful, very focused, girl who's an excellent shot, works hard, and is fun to boot. I think any guy will be lucky to have her and doubt she'll have to force anyone into procreating. We've had a few come around, but so far, nothing meets her (probably too) high standards.

You could do that?

I'm sure they'd have done it. It was a pretty classy joint that I'm sure could've concocted something amazing- but then again, rum sort of concocts itself into amazing things without a ton of help.

Ouch! That must've put a crimp into enjoying the show.

It almost landed me in the ED.

Not me. Ruby had hers taken out, though.

Poor girl! She's much better off without a rotten one for sure!

So, not that bad then?

OH not at all. Only slightly better than Indian food the next day.

Pretty girls. Take after their mother obviously.

Obviously.

Lucky for her! But I'm sure anyone in the city would've done the same.

No? Yes?

Integrity is getting to be a rare commodity these days.

Not even a thanks.

Sheesh. Makes you wonder about what kind of friendships and relationships that person has.

I did.

You DIS in the nude?????

:faint:

I had my glasses on. So no.

Girls... I don't know why they're so evil, but they are.

Yes, they can be. That's why most of the villians are women, no?

You need to stop and breathe once in a while too, you know.

I do? Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!

Thank you Rosie! It was fun to just sit and watch and wait.

We did enjoy the show very much. It was very well done and fun to just spend time with my girls.

You are thinking of Sanaa! It's one of my absolute favorites and on the top priority list of going back to for us. We also will order the naan service and get all the condiments. It was super yummy last time!

Sounds like a wonderful evening out!

I totally agree with you about the drinking age. It's rather backwards in my opinion.

Bummer about the parking ticket but makes for a more interesting story!
