Is anyone doing the 5K or the half marathon?

For anyone who has or is doing it...are tickets included on the day of your race (5k is on the 30th and the other is the next day)? I don't think they are, since it doesn't state that they are, but I might as well ask. :goodvibes

I just got a bee in my bonnet about doing the 5K at a brisk walk (since you'll be picked up under 15 minutes/mile), then realized that since we didn't upgrade from Deluxe, those are BOTH blockout days. Ugh.

Thanks for the info, in advance!

Oh, and if you do one of the races, can you JUST do the race then leave, without having admission for the day?

I was actually wondering the same thing, and tried looking for info but couldn't find anything.

I'm doing the 1/2. Admission is not included, but you don't need it for the race.

Thanks!

I'm now thinking it's just not going to work out, especially b/c just a week or so before we're going camping for a Ren Faire for our anniversary, and the extra traveling might not be a good idea.

Darnit, though, I wanted to do it!

Oh, too bad you can't do it! I will be doing the half. I just booked the DLH. I ran the half last year and stayed at the GC. I am so excited about going and will be on the DL boards alot the next two months!!

I'm not doing it this year, but the 1/2 marathon is on my MUST DO list!

I heard that it starts pretty early in the morning to get through and back out of the park before opening...and then if you want to go back to the park after, you pay for the admission.

I'm GOING to do it one year soon! Maybe '09 or '10.

Is the starting point of the race close to the DLH? I have looked at the route, but I am map reading challenged:rotfl:

Molly,

We are planning on doing the 5K (Me) and Half Marathon(DH) next year. You should aim to join us! I'm way excited, and have already warned Lorealle about our impending arrival next year! I can't to hear all about this years race. :cool1:

Very cool, Heather!

Before I remembered about the blockout dates (we really should have upgraded to premium on our recent trip) I found a website called coolrunning. I had found a WISH journal that talked about their "couch to 5K" program, and that's what I googled to find the site. I haven't looked at it seriously yet, but that's exactly where I am, on the couch! :rotfl2:

Molly,

We are actually doing this in 2009 in preperation for my long term goal to do the WDW marathon in 2011. My DH did the coolrunning couch to 5K program and ran his first race last weekend. He's doing his 2nd race this weekend. He's hooked on it. The program definitely worked for him. Maybe we'll see you there!

Hi Michelle!!!

I don't think they changed the staging area and the start too much from 2006 but we walked out of the DLH main doors walked by the giant Mickey statue and headed to 'staging' where there is a stage and the DJ was already going and videos of a past WDW race playing on the screen. Tons of porta-potties and in fact we were sooo early out that morning that after watching the screen a few times, eating breakfast we decided to wander and watched them set up yet MORE porta potties. The corrals (it was set up for corrals in 2006 and I understand it was a Wave start in 2007 so i'm not sure how they were setting up for that in2007) were a short few steps from the area with the stage.

Keep in mind the area with the stage will later turn into the reunion area to meet up with friends and family and you will be in that area again when you get your post-race food/water.

We had a room over looking that parking area (so our room was facing the same direction that Giant Mickey looks) and from our room we could see the finish line.

I was amazed at how short a walk it was from the finish area to the elevators to my room.

All in all I still say Disneyland does one very nice half Marathon :thumbsup2

My friend and Mom did the 5K in 2006 and it was very nice. They had a good time. :)

Good luck to those doing the race weekend this year (see ya there!!!) and those in training for a future year all the best wishes. When the timing finally works Bumbershoot it will truly worth it. You'll have a blast!

Oh the 5k and half marathon, they're so lovely. Ever since 2006, I've done the 5k while my dad has done the 5k & half marathon. My dad completed the full marathon Disneyland had in 1995.
I remember in 2006, the 5k ended in DCA so racers could stay in the park w/out buying a ticket, but things have changed. My mom was thinking about being a volunteer since the 5k was challenging for her in 2006 & didn't want to do 2007.
The 5k was also when I became a little frightened of Koda the bear bc we were towards the end and all the CMs wanted all of us runners to keep moving along (probably so they can take their break, lol) and when I went towards Koda to say hi, I heard him go "Keep going. Keep going" and it freaked me out bc fuzzies aren't supposed to talk! My dad still jokes about it.
