We all have a change jar...

In addition to mine, I started a $5 jar back in January.

Every $5 bill I get I put it in the jar. I rarely have cash on me, So I thought this would never really accumulate much. So far in 6 months I've got $215! In just $5 bills!

It's exciting! Give it a try! :goodvibes

I too started the $5 savings in Jan. I read a blog that talked about saving all twenties, knowing I wouldn't be able to swing that much of a hit each time decided to try fives instead. So far so good. When I had my shop I handled more personal cash than I do now so adding has certainly decreased. Thankfully I got my husband on board and he helps a ton especially when he goes out on business. I wanted to wait until I hit the year mark to see what I accumulated but caved and counted it before depositing. We had iirc around 850. I was shocked! Quite happy about it though. When I started my plan was to save enough by the time my 40th bday rolls around to have enough saved for the dh and I to be able to take a dream trip to Paris. Four and a half more years of saving like we have been my dream just may come true. :)
Good luck, cant wait to hear what you have in another six months;)

I can't remember where or when I first read this tip, but I started doing it probably two months ago. I was thinking I would save for our next Disney trip which is the beginning of November. I was thinking of taking the money and buying Disney gift cards for every $50 but now I'm not sure if that's what I want to do... I too didn't want to count but caved and I think I have almost $100. Now I feel like counting it again! :)

Good for you!

I personally cannot imagine tossing all of my fives in a jar (or cigar box, or drawer). But if it works for you, more power to you! :thumbsup2

I'll just stick to my steady, weekly, automatic transfers from my checking account into my vacation savings. It works pretty good for me and I'm less tempted to raid my stash if it is harder to get at.

My DH and I each put $10 a week in a jar for our "dis" fund; it's our manual automatic deposit into the vacation fund LOL!

Yep we started this a few months ago and also have about $200! We've both had a few instances of having to spend a $5 in our wallet but once it is in the jar, no worries.
