The 5 J's Go Back to Disney *6/7* We're home :( But the TR has been started!!

I cannot believe how close our trip is:love: It is making it so hard for me to concentrate on anything. I started writing my final paper yesterday, but somehow found myself on the DIS:rolleyes1 (and I haven't returned to the paper yet...)

I need to measure the boys again. I haven't done it in a while. I am pretty sure Jayden is at least 50" tall, so RnR, here he comes!!!:yay: But I'm concerned that Jory may be just skimming the 40" mark. But that's without shoes, so hopefully we won't have issues. It would be so nice to ride almost everything as a family this time:woohoo: I already put the tape measure on the table to remind me when they get home from school.

I have already started packing:banana: DH just shook his head at me when he saw the bags. :confused3 Last week, I went to Target (I LOVE Target) and bought shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, aloe, motrin and tylenol for the kids and us, etc for our toiletry bag. That's all packed and ready to go. I want to start packing our suitcases, but we don't have enough clothes for me to sequester 12 days worth in a suitcase. I could pack the popup hamper and $1 store shoe organizer I bought months ago, but I can't find them now:rolleyes:

I have also packed our park bag. Last fall, there was a post on here about the Columbia Touring Pouch at an amazing price. I bought two. They are fabulous. We tested one out at the Carolina Renaissance Festival in October (with a lighter load) and it was great. The bags are the same dimensions as a sheet of notebook paper and about 3-4" deep.

Here is what's in the park bag. The *ed items aren't in it yet but the rest is all packed up

  • Tide to Go pen (can't live without these, especially as a nurse wearing white!)
  • sunscreen (we use the spray on kind with the twisty cap - so convenient and no cap to lose)
  • chapstick
  • pouch of babywipes
  • flavor pouches to add to bottled water (the kids love these)
  • small hairbrush with scrunchies wrapped around the handle
  • small 1st aid kit (J&J) to which I added Sudafed, motrin, tylenol, GasX thin strips:rolleyes1, dramamine, small fold up scissors, and Jayden's Zomig (his migraine rescue med)
  • ponchos
  • antibacterial gel
  • 2.5 gallon ziploc baggie to put the touring pouch in on wet rides
  • tissues
  • penlight
  • rolaids
  • extra batteries for camera
  • extra memory card for camera
  • *clean pre1982 pennies (well, they're in there but I haven't cleaned them yet)
  • *pens/autograph books
  • *camera
  • *mini tabletop tripod
  • *asthma inhaler
  • *epipen for DH's bee allergy - need to pick up a fresh one
  • *small snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks)
  • *cell phones (2, in case we split up)

I'll also throw in an index card each day with the itinerary of that day, ADR's, parade/show times. Oh and the KTTW of course;) along with our ID.

It seems like a huge list, but the bag isn't that heavy at all, even with my camera in it. Plus, DD13 offered to carry the second bag because she wants to bring her own camera (we bought her a nice one for Christmas but it isn't working right:mad: so she is currently fighting with DH over the Kodak DX6590 I just replaced LOL). So I'll most likely throw the pens and autograph books in her bag. Last time, we bought the fat $3 pens in the parks, but I am considering buying some sharpie click markers this time. I saw it on another thread and thought it was a good idea. I haven't decided yet, though. I really like those fat $3 pens. Though they're probably fat $4 pens now.

I may add one more thing to my bag, also. I really want to buy an attachment or two :rolleyes1 for my new camera. It all depends on how well I do at our upcoming yard sale. I was originally planning it for this Fri/Sat, but I cannot see me being ready by then. Everything is still a huge mess in the middle of our former dining room (we converted it to a scrapbooking/craft room as my Christmas gift:thumbsup2). There is simply too much going on this week for me to realistically get in there - Jory has T ball practice tonight, Jayden normally has boy scouts on Tuesdays, but has to miss it because his school's spring music show is tomorrow night, Wednesday night we have church, Thursday Jayden has baseball practice AND Jory has a music show at his school (so DH and I will have to split up that night)... Of course, this is pretty much the schedule EVERY week, but I also have a paper to write. :sad2:

Slow down, world, I want to get off!! Have I mentioned how much I NEED this vacation??!!?? I just can't wait to get back to my happy place; to walk through the gates and gasp in awe, while my eyes well up with tears; to ride all my favorite rides screaming like a 6 year old; to sit by the pool relaxing with a cold drink; to just sit back, smiling, soaking it all in, to be immersed in the magic that is Disney; all the while being in a state of sheer bliss and utter contentment:cloud9:. Ahhhh...

Ack! I just remembered that I also need to get disposable cameras for the boys. They loved having them last time. That'll have to go in Jessica's bag, too.

I'm enjoying your report allready! I wish you were going the same time we were, it would be fun to meet you!

NICU nurse? I think that is wonderful. Lydia was in the NICU for several days after she was born. Honestly, the nurses she had were simply horrible. But, I think you would be great at it! I have a lot of respect for nurses though, they do so much!!! When my sister was in the hospital this summer, she had one of the most WONDEFUL nurses! She went above and beyone what she needed to do, and it made such a difference to us.

I also love the Disney math! I've used it several times myself!

I can not tell you how much I relate to this statement above. I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. Isn't it the most amazing feeling. This a.m. I walked into the kitchen and said to Tim "ask me how many days to Disney" he said "52" I said "THATS RIGHT!!!!" We both had huge smiles, we just can't wait, I can hear that from you too and can't wait for this trip for you, SOOOOO close, you'll be there before you know it.
Man, you carry a lot in the parks. Do you have a poncho bag? We carry that daily and seem to use it daily in June, don't know about May so much.
Lesley

Thanks for all the visits, everyone!

Thank you!!! It's great to meet fellow nurses. I cannot wait to pass my boards! I am so proud to be part of the nursing profession.

Well best of luck on the NCLEX!!!

The packing list looks great (and gave me a few ideas) plus I think only a nurse would pack a penlight. ;)

:goodvibes LOVIN your trip report. I work as an ER nurse, graduated 2 years ago, so first of all I have to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And good luck on boards!! (can I plug my fave NCLEX review book?? NCLEX made incredibly easy, it actually has fun stuff in it to make the reading go a little easier and written in an easy to understand manner..here is a link http://www.amazon.com/Nclex-Rn-Review-Made-Incredibly-Easy/dp/1582552290) so you want to do NICU...WOW, personally I prefer my patients to be able to tell me what is wrong, or what hurts LOL! We see our fair share of little ones, but not that little!
I am loving all your pretrip plans...you have to hurry back and start on your TR, I can't wait to see your reviews of POR, we are staying there in June! Looks like you have some great plans made, and I also am a TGM lover too!
Oh and your kids are adorable, your DD is the spitting image of you!
Ya know I never realized until now, what a weird saying that is until I typed it out, but whatever. Ok time for me to go to bed, I am starting to talk all crazy lol!

Jennifer, sounds like you have everything all set. I didn't realize you were going to be there for 2 glorious weeks!! Oh, I'm so jealous. I was able to squeak through with 9 nights this time. I think every vacation gets longer and longer. You would think after visiting so many times, the days would get shorter..nope. You are leaving in 3 weeks...of course you should be packed. It's funny, last year our vacation was in September and I had us all packed in July. My poor husband kept asking where all his clothes were. As our trip got closer, his wardrobe got smaller and smaller. :rolleyes1 I also bought the kids new summer clothes at the beginning of the summer that I wouldn't let them wear because I wanted them to be brand new in Disney. Like anyone really cares.

NICU nurse...just noticed that. God Bless You. My twins were in the NICU for 3 months (micro-preemies), and I have to tell you I have never seen more dedicated people in my entire life. Through that whole ordeal, I actually thought of returning to school to become an RN....but by the time both my kids came home I was working the monitors and reading the blood gas reports, etc... I should have received an honorary RN degree. I think it's great when I hear people that want to concentrate on caring for teeny tiny babies. It's such a stressful job. Anywho...I wish you the best of luck with getting your dream position.

Back to Disney...thanks for the collapsible hamper idea. Just when I thought I had everything on my packing list. It sure beats throwing the dirty clothes in a lawn trashbag. We tried not to do laundry last trip, but being gone for 2 weeks it's going to have to happen. We have 130 some odd days to go and I'm trying to be patient. It goes by so quickly and I find that some of the fun is planning the vacation. YAY, I have a hobby.

Logging on! popcorn::

Great pre-trip report so far. We are going for 5 nights and my DH considers it a long trip. I told him if it were up to me we would be there for at least 8 days. He loves Disney, too, but prefers to go on lots of mini weekend trips.

Your kids are very brave to do ToT and RnR. My DD, who was 8 at the time did RnR and she is so over it. She is going back to Goofy's Barnstormer this time.

Thanks for all the visits everyone! I love seeing new posts here :) I have been itching to update all week, but as I posted earlier, it's been a doozy! Right now I'm finally writing that paper (due at noon LOL). Nothing like good ol' procrastination. I had all intentions of writing this last month, but so much for good intentions. I can't believe I graduate in 8 days!!!!! And I can't believe I will be at Disneyworld in less than 4 weeks! Late last night DH and I were in bed discussing how crazy things have been and how we never even see each other. Then I just sighed and said, "Just think! In exactly 28 days, we will be lying in bed at POR discussing the beginning of our fabulous vacation!!!" (Four weeks from yesterday is our travel day) He just smiled and said, "I can't wait!!" :) :) :)

After I finish this paper, I'm going to play Lego Star Wars 2 with Jory for a bit and then we've got to head up to Jayden's school for a project. I'll be back to update soon!

Hi Teresa! I haven't been on judy's in ages - are you still on there? There are good and bad nurses in every unit. I will do all I can to remain unjaded and remember to stay focused. There are things I've seen that I have made a mental note to myself not to ever do. Nurses can truly make the difference in a good vs. bad hospital stay. It feels so good when a patient thanks you and you know that you have done all you can to help them be more comfortable and less scared.

I can not tell you how much I relate to this statement above. I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. Isn't it the most amazing feeling. I can't believe we are in the 20s!!!!!:scared1: It seems so unreal. DH shakes his head at me, as I have a tendency to overpack no matter where we go. When he went camping with Jayden with boy scouts, I packed them a small bag with bandaids, neosporin, motrin (kids and regular), antibacterial gel, wipes, etc. He rolled his eyes at me, but he used several things from the bag;) That's all the thanks I need hehe

I have a feeling that after a few days, we will likely keep a few things in the room (sunscreen, for example). We really don't need to carry it with us unless we are going to the water park or something. But it never fails that we wind up needing something in the bag (meds, wipes, etc).
Well best of luck on the NCLEX!!!

The packing list looks great (and gave me a few ideas) plus I think only a nurse would pack a penlight. ;)
Thank you! Gotta have the penlight! I just realized the battery is out - gotta get some AAAs!

Thank you! I have the Kaplan book and like it. I love the "Made Incredibly Easy" series and sub to the magazine - it is fabulous. Very easy to read and makes it fun (well, not FUN, but you know LOL). Yep, NICU has stolen my heart. I thought I would be intimidated by my rotation because the babies are so small and as you said, unable to tell me what's wrong. But it isn't as intimidating as I imagined. There is still the healthy fear that I think all good nurses should have no matter where they work - the drive to do your best and practice safely.

I'll have to post some more pics from our 2005 trip, including the POR ones. It is so beautiful! And thanks for the compliments on my kiddos - I think they're pretty cute too;)

I still haven't found my hamper or shoe organizer thing. I am starting to suspect that DH threw them away  I am so happy at how long this trip is and am trying not to even think of the price tag (though you know that the longer you stay in Disney the cheaper it is - more Disney math:rotfl2: ). I am considering heading up to the Disney store after dinner to try to find some shirts:rolleyes1 I won't let the kids wear them, though - I'll just throw them in the suitcases. Then I'll feel better, after starting to pack clothes:lmao:

Welcome! I still can't believe how long this trip is. I blame it on DH - he said that this is our last Disney trip for a while, as he wants to see other places for a while. Silly man:sad2: So I feel like I need to squeeze the most I can out of this trip.

BRB with an update - the boys need some help!

Hi, Jen. Good luck with all the end of the year stuff. And have fun getting ready - the results will certainly be worth it!! I'm dancing for you! :dance3:

Time got away from me this weekend. Yesterday was my last precepting shift in the NICU. My instructor asked me if I was excited for it to be over, and frankly, I'm not - I'm sad :( I love the NICU so much. But holy cow, I graduate SUNDAY!! Mental note - I need to buy waterproof mascara because I know I will be a blubbering mess at the ceremony. We have rehearsal Friday morning and then our Senior Luncheon (which the freshman do for the seniors every year). I can't wait to see everyone again. It feels like forever.

On the job front, a little bird told me that the DON has been asking about me. She said that the DON mentioned how impressed she is with me, and how she's received several great recommendations letters from faculty at my school, along with my witty resume and impressive letter of inquiry ;) Which all sounds wonderful, right? Well the problem is, I haven't heard from her since she emailed me back (after my "impressive letter of inquiry":thumbsup2 ) TWO WEEKS AGO:sad1: .

I spoke with the nurse recruiter this morning. L&D has already hired someone, so there goes my backup plan. :headache: Peds wants an experienced nurse (I didn't really want peds anyway, but I would have gladly taken it, especially over med/surg!). And NICU - well, she said they are interested but not sure if they have a position for me to take. I already knew that. I feel defeated. I am confident I will be able to get a job. But I don't want to just have a JOB. I LOOOOVE the NICU. I can't imagine being anywhere else. If I have to start somewhere else, I won't be devastated - I am persistent and a good nurse. I will make my way to the NICU some way, some how. But I will definitely be disappointed and sad. Prayers and positive thoughts are definitely appreciated.:flower3:

OK back to your regularly scheduled pre-trip report. At least for a little while. Because I need to shower soon. My head stinks. Really, it does. I got a perm Thursday and the perm-stink hasn't washed out yet. DH is threatening divorce. OK not really, but he has had several gagging episodes.

Hold on to your hats. I am considering another change.:scared1:

I know, I know, it's so unorthodox for me. So out of the ordinary, you can't believe it. But it is true, my friends. DH doesn't even know it yet, but I'm working on that. Of course, if I don't change anything, he never has to know I considered it.

See, everyone keeps talking about the California Grill. (Well, not everyone. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've heard any of you mention it in your trip reports. But elsewhere, yea, everyone's talking about it. At least it seems that way to me.) We loved CG in 2005. So I am thinking about cancelling our room only ressie for our last night and just adding it to our package, giving us an extra set of DDP credits. I've already paid for the last night, so it would cost $128 (even with Disney math, I am not sure I can justify this.) That would also mean we'd have to cancel one of our other TS meals to have 2 TS credits for CG. That is the other dilemma. Not to mention that if I don't stop changing things, I will never get my trip documents. That would be bad. Because the day those trip documents come, watch out world! My kids can ask for anything in the whole world that day - mommy will be walking on air and an absolute pushover. Shh, don't tell them that!

So this is what I am pondering currently.

On a happier note, we went shopping Saturday. I am not sure why the budget board is called the budget board, because it seems that everytime I visit that board, I wind up spending more money.:confused3 First was the columbia tour pouches, and of course, the shoebuy coupons for the crocs. I am sure there were lots of little things in between that I've blocked from memory. Someone recently mentioned (can't remember who, sorry) how it's not the Disney trip that's expensive - it's getting ready for the Disney trip. So true, so true. Well, now, I've been pressured into visiting the Disney store because they had a 50% off sale and tee shirts for $5. Oh and Lesley, you had a hand in this too. Shame on you!

Anyway, we had fun. Well, I did. Not sure about the rest of my family. I got 5 shirts for each of my boys, 1 shirt for me, 1 shirt for Jess, 2 Meet the Robinsons light up personal fans, a huge Tinkerbell mug for my niece who adores Tink, and a cute Pooh mug that had Piglet on it for DD. All that for $87 with tax after my 15% off coupon from wishesgranteddaily.com. :thumbsup2

Piglet is seriously the red headed stepchild of Disney. It is darn near impossible to find anything with Piglet on it. I think that is partly why DD picked him as her favorite  but gosh, it is frustrating sometimes trying to find stuff.

I will take pics of my purchases later and post. Right now it's shower time.

P.S. Almost forgot -

:cool1::banana::cheer2::woohoo: ONLY 23 MORE SLEEPS TIL DISNEY!!!:woohoo::cheer2::banana::cool1:

Sooo excited for you and your upcoming graduation ceremony. Our little Lauren was in the NICU after being born 2 months early so the people who work there hold a precious place in my hearts. Prayers going out for you to get the dream job you always wanted.
About the change, have you called to see if an ADR is even available for the day/time you want? That could be the deciding factor. I'd hate for you to change everything and then not get in. I only say that because I've been trying for 2 places EVERY SINGLE day with no luck, hope you have better luck. Will wait and see what you decided.
I understand what you mean about the budget board, I love that board but it causes me to spend too:rotfl2:
Lesley

OK, I'm a little slow but I finally made it here from my current TR and my pre-trippie to see what's up in your world.

First of all, congratulations on your graduation this weekend!! :yay: :yay:
I'm sending good thoughts your way to help you land that NICU job you want.

Secondly, your kids are too cute (not that you needed to hear that again, but they are!).

Thirdly - California Grill is fantastic, so if you get a chance to go you definitely should. We tried it last October and liked it so much we are going back again next month.

Fourth - since your trip to WDW and my trip will overlap, please be sure to say hello if you see me and the hubby wandering around - we're harmless! ;)

I hope you have a great trip - you've earned it! :goodvibes

Thanks:yay: Me too! I was so scared of the NICU at first, and now I can't imagine working anywhere else. It is such a huge responsibility to care for such precious little ones, but it is a huge honor as well. Thanks for the prayers. Good point about availability of CG. I will have to look into that. Of course, just found out we're overdrawn on our checking account due to some STUPIDITY on our part (not keeping track). That hasn't happened in I don't know how long! :headache: So after that costly error, I don't know if I can even consider the change anymore.:confused3 :sad2: Good luck getting your ADR!

Thanks for the congrats and good thoughts on the job front. Oh and for the compliment on my kids. I think they're pretty awesome myself ;) I agree, CG is amazing. But I doubt it will happen this trip :( That's ok though - I cannot complain. After all, we will be there in 21 days for 12 days!!:woohoo: I hope we do run into each other! Are you wearing anything limegreen? Or should I just be on the lookout for Plankton?:rotfl:

:wizard: I am hoping that you get the nursing position you want!

The budget board can be dangerous sometimes! I love it though, too...I have found some GREAT deals by lurking over there and sometimes I found deals for things I didn't even need.:rotfl:

I am soooooo excited for you! I cannot wait to read about your trip.:)

Well, I am officially sick :( I went to the dr this morning and wasted $20 for him to tell me what I basically already knew. Oh well. Jayden is also home sick with another migraine. Poor kid can't get a break. And I feel totally guilty because I thought DH gave him his Topamax last night and he thought I did. Jayden will generally remind us before we even have a chance to give it to him, so since he didn't say anything, I didn't ask him if he'd had it. So now I feel like it's my fault he has a migraine :( I will be sure to always verify if he's taken it from now on.

And then like I mentioned above, we are overdrawn. Grrr. So some of the cash I have set aside for the kids' spending money will have to go in the bank today to cover all those stinking fees (I feel nauseous paying the bank fees) and we'll have to make it up somehow. *sigh* I can't wait til I have a paycheck!

Speaking of paychecks, I heard from the recruiter. She told me she spoke with the DON who told her that she will be calling me for a peer interview soon. :yay: When I was listening to my voice mail and heard that, I started jumping up and down in my front yard. Good thing my neighbors already know I am crazy. I also had my final evaluation yesterday. It went very well. I got almost all Excellents and a couple Satisfactories (mostly stuff I really wasn't exposed to). I got to see my babies again, too, which was a bonus.

I've done some more packing :) That always feels good. I wish AAA would call me and tell me they have my trip documents. I want them in my hand so I can stroke them and hold them and... Well you get the picture.

My next project is pricing for our yard sale (crossing my fingers we do especially well, particularly after the bank snafu) and I also have to scour TGM to come up with our daily itineraries. Yea, I know I should have done that months ago, but it seemed like I had so much time and I didn't want to be bored three weeks out. Well now it's three weeks out and I have so much to do LOL Oh well, I thrive on pressure.
